Glenn Hauser logs February 6, 2014

** BELIZE [and non]. 21305-USB, Feb 6 at 1520, German-accented V31TF is ``listening 5 up``. Says he`s on vacation in northern Belize by the Mexican border; makes some contacts but says will QSY to 12 or 10m for better propagation. I had also noticed much more ham activity on those bands than 15 for some reason, tho Spain was in well enough on 21610 and 21630, Kuwait barely on 21540. (A German in Germany was audible on 24960-USB at 1511 in a pileup (for FT5ZM, nominal 24955?), DL0AZ.)

Yes, he`s German, per illustrated setup at

** KURDISTAN [non]. 11510, Feb 6 at 1442, nice Kurdish music concert and good signal with flutter from Denge Kurdistane, presumably via PRIDNESTROVYE. 1501 switches to Kurdish talk (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U K. 11825, Feb 6 at 1505, open carrier, dead air on good signal with flutter. Wake up in Woofferton! Scheduled is VOA Radio Ashna in Dari during this semihour; exposed by the departure of Brother Scare from this frequency all day via WRMI. Perhaps Ashna audio came back at 1530 with site switch to Kuwait (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 11715-, Feb 6 at 1504, KJES, Vado NM, goes from music to recitations in English, barely modulated as usual, but very strong signal, possibly aimed this way from rotatable log-periodic. Very slightly on the low side of frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1140, Feb 6 at 1400 UT, in QRM, partial ID in English mentioning 1140 and 102.9 FM. That matches listing for KCXL Liberty MO (Kansas City). Since hearing ``Univisión Kansas City`` mentioned in Spanish on 1140, Jan 29 at 1337 UT and also 1140 y 102.9, I have been trying to confirm that it`s really KCXL in Spanish ex-English.

But apparently not. Possibly that was just a commercial for the Univisión TV outlet in Kansas City. Dave Hughes in KCMO also checked 1140 for me, at a totally different daypart after 0600 UT Feb 5 and found it still in English altho with QRM in Spanish, which at that hour was probably XEMR.

Feb 6 and previous mornings, in the 1330-1400 UT period, I`ve only been getting a mix of KRMP OK, KLTK AR (not KTLK as I once typoed), and KSOO SD, until the log above (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1707 monitoring: confirmed on WRMI-10, 9955, Thursday Feb 6 from 1330:11, after gh ID; despite the slightly late start, not cut off at the end a few seconds after 1359 when Scoreboard starts. Transmitter/antenna switch from SSE to NW occurred before 1359 at the start of the propagation outlook, causing a great surge in strength here; before that, pulse jamming had been audible underneath.
