Glenn Hauser logs May 30-31, 2022

** CANADA. 3330 & 7850, May 31 at 0640, revived CHU is *still* announcing time *two hours slow* as ``4h,40m``, almost 16 hours after turned back on. At 1450, both 7850 & 14670 RCUSB too weak to copy direct. But at 1524 into Ottawa SDR, finally correct. As far as I could tell, however, the minute markers stayed correct and precise, so that`s something. Meanwhile, Richard Langley, NB, reports to the WOR iog, May 31 at 1104:

``Just got this message from the NRC technical officer after reporting the announced time error yesterday and asking about the off-air reason:

"Thank you for this, don't know why the time was 2 hours off. It is fixed now. The antennas were fine. The problem was the generator failed for a long time so everything shut down. Then we were not allowed access to the site until yesterday, they just opened the road where CHU is located this morning."``

And confirmed correct hour being announced monitoring 7850 kHz here in NB about 30 minutes ago (around 11:45 UTC). -- Richard Langley`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 15034 USB, May 31 at 1455, CHR Trenton Military, still nothing but ``no report received`` from: Calgary, Cold Lake, Winnipeg, Edmonton, and repeated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11880, May 31 at 2214, RHC is S9 but JBM, barely recognizable as scheduled French. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6060, May 31 at 0633, this is the only RHC English frequency remaining, S7/S9 but barely modulated and unusable; still below some hum but no buzz. Something`s always wrong at RHC. And it`s even weaker than 1-kW 6070 CFRX at S9+10 and amply modulated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. From June NZ DX Times: ``1640 KZLS Enid OK ident as “1640 and 1390, the New CTB Fox Sports.” “CTB” refers to ‘Chisholm Trail Broadcasting Company. (Matt Todd-OK via NRC)``

Ha, I avoid my locals so much that this was news to me. Indeed, KCRC 1390 // 1640 May 31 at 0430 during stupid BB game. 11:30 pm local, multi-inning, or western timezone? 1640 is running about 2 seconds behind 1390. Why bother such duplication? Well, 1640 gets into OKC day and night, not 1390. Inside Enid, 1390 is stronger.

A few weeks ago, the far-right ``Eagle`` talk format on 1640 KZLS replaced Bob music or whatever it was on co-owned 96.9, and they were running //. 96.9 KQOB ID only as ``The New Eagle, 96.9``, no mention of 1640, May 31 at 0430 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, May 30 at 2200, token English from REE previewed as something from Beirut, and author about power, smax of rerun, so I listen only to the initial news (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, May 31 at 0500-0506, YP1 via WRMI with `Ukraine: Security Issue`, tonight by the too-fast-talking guy. Not so good into Missouri SDR I happen to have running to the NW of FL, rather than the usual Maryland one onbeam to the NE (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2140 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday May 31 at 0030 on WRMIs into Missouri SDR; 9395 S9+5/10, 9455 S9+15/20. More treble in the 9395 modulation. Next:

2230 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed by Cuba]
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW [NEW]
1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, Australia 5035-USB or 3210-USB
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 9455 to WNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 9395 to NNW

Or by MO or check in US$ on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15770, May 31 at 1947 late tune in to WRMI, world music fill already playing instead of VOA `Flashpoint: Ukraine`. Did it at least start airing today? Also chopped short yesterday and May 24, at least as I have not tried every day (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1130 kHz, May 30 at 2220 UT, KLEY Wellington KS still providing zero modulation. Had been dead air May 13-16 after a spell of sounds, but not rechecked lately (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5970, May 31 at 0632, DRM-like noise again and now covering 5965-5975 tho weakly (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Half a month extension for ERT's shortwave broadcasting

And an agreement for the Voice of Greece concerning sailors.
May 31, 2022

The operation of the Avlida short broadcast center took a second extension . Following a suggestion by the General Director of Technology and Media Operation of ERT, but also a request from the Ministry of Defense , the Voice of Greece will continue to broadcast proportionally at least until June 15 , when "the conditions will be re-evaluated".

At the same time , with another decision, ERT concluded an agreement with OTE Sat Maritel , a subsidiary of the OTE group concerning telecommunications in shipping , for the transmission of a six -hour program by the Voice of Greece "in order to improve access to information and entertainment for Greeks Sailors".

China observations

Amnual maintenance refurbishment at RTC Xizang Lhasa Baiding bcast center seemingly finalized action now today.

At 14.18 UT today checked on Delhi Perseus server net SDR

Fair signal of S=9+10dB on non-dir or easterly 85degr azimuth 4820, 4905, 4920, 5935, 6110, 7255, and 7450 kHz.

Much stronger of S=9+35dB signals in South Asia subcontinent on 6025, 6050, 6130, 7240, and 7385 kHz are sidelobes of 220 and/or 290 degrees azimuth outlets.

WORLD OF RADIO HITLIST Update

Hi Glenn, My latest Hitlist update.
https://www.w4uvh.net/hitlist.htm

1) Belgium - R Onda: Direct link to R Onda live stream no longer works, updated link to the home page where a live stream link is accessible

2) USA - VOA: Updated link to VOA frequency page, although the freqs shown are currently sadly out of date (thanks to Bill, WE7W, in WOR iog mail list); Updated all other links to VOA webpages following changes to website and new VOA Africa website.

3) USA - WBCQ: Removed reference to discontinued Area 61; added link to WBCQ 'R Angela' program schedule

The next update is scheduled for late July
Best wishes and 73, Alan Roe, UK

** AUSTRALIA. 10129 USB, May 30 at 0555, hamnet of ragchewers on Aussie-only 30-m phone band. Besides weakness, very hard to ID as they seldom do so knowing each other well, let alone clearly or fonetikaly. 10129 is favorite frequency but also have heard some on 10124 USB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 15034 USB, May 29 at 2219, Trenton Military with ``No Report Received`` from: Trenton itself!, Ottawa, Toronto, Bagotville, and keeps repeating same list at least twice more.

15034 USB, May 30 at 1442, still nothing but ``No Report Received`` from: Shannon, Prestwick, Keflavik, Lajes. Those would have been terminal forecasts; at 1443, different sequence of aviation weather also NRR: Shearwater, Greenwood, Gander, Halifax, and also repeating. ID and time as 1440Z --- only 3 minutes slow rather than 60+ sometimes and than CHU, *two hours slow* --- come on, Canada, you can do better (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 3330 & 7850 & 14670, May 30 at 1551 UT, CHU is back on all channels, but needs a little more work: Timechex are two hours slow!! As 1351, and still at 1600 as if it were 1400. Ditto past 1700, at 1748 as if ``1548``. At 1808 as ``16h08m``. At 1954 UT as ``17h54m``. The English & French announcers must be in cahoots as both are doing it. Obviously, no one is paying attention! Anyone relying on this will be 2:00 hours late to do whatever.

Tnx to Don Moman and Joe Caberlin who noted it was back by 1500 UT. It had crashed at 2000 UT May 21 due to storms and power outages; occasionally there were carriers but no regular service for almost 9 days of no time for Canada. BTW, on the SDR originally running in LSB, CHU could be heard but louder via USB. Is this a transmission or reception defect? It`s supposed to be reduced-carrier upper sideband (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 13530, May 30 at 1437, CNR1 jammer poor, 15920 JBA. At 1448 further typical SOH/CNR1s detected on 13020, 13130 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, UT Monday May 30 at 0441, RHC is S9 but JBM in presumed English. 6060 is S9/+10 of humbuzz obscuring Spanish; 6100 not on yet; 6165, S9/+20 sufficient in English, mailbag as ``Ed Newman`` gives email address. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9440, May 29 at 2217, S4/S5 direct chanting from R. Cairo and seems undermodulated. On my other rx and antenna at 2235 it`s JBA. But at 2239 into UTwente, S9+35/40 and extremely distorted English. Something`s always egregious in Egypt.

My previous report with precise frequency 9439.995 was misquoted as ``9439`` in the May NASWA Journal, as the log editor simply deletes any numbers after the decimal some of us go to so much trouble to report precisely! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NEW ZEALAND. 11725, May 30 at 0601, RNZP starting BBCWS news relay by the deep-voiced Neil Nunes from Jamaica --- VG signal, the best we can get BBC since they dispensed with N America on SW. 0606 into BBCWS Newsday. Ironically, NZ is not really for us either. See also UNIDENTIFIED 13840 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. May 29 at 2210 UT, all four of our regular ND beacons are confirmed active: 255 SW Stillwater, 341 EI Enid, 350 RG OKC, 515 PN Ponca City, vs high line noise levels. RG had not been audible for a few days (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U K [non]. 12025, May 30 at 1502, BBCWS news in English at S8/S9 but vs high noise level here. Not a familiar BBC channel, but listed as Kranji/SINGAPORE at 1500-1900, also 0000-0030 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 10000, May 30 at 1504, WWV is still making a special announcement during this minute ever hour leading to: https://www.hamsci.org/wwv See what you make of it. By now they had moved on to another event April 30-May 1, also quite passé. A few sweeps were heard at 1608 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2140 monitoring: confirmed Sunday May 29 at 2000 on IRRS via AM Italia, Villa Estense, 1323 kHz, S9+3 into nearby Noale SDR; too much noise on 918 to be sure whether also on there, maybe a trace; and not on 207 kHz. 1323 JBA into UTwente across Europe.

Also confirmed Sunday May 29 at 2230 on WRMI 5950 despite replaced by something else on websked a couple months ago, JBA direct in full summer day path, but S9 into Georgia SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday May 29 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9+15/20 into Virginia SDR which is way offbeam from 222 degrees, but a lot better than I can get 7780 direct perpendicularly.

Also confirmed UT Monday May 30 at 0130 on WRN N America webcast.

Also confirmed UT Monday May 30 starting at 0309.3 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6159.941, S9/+5 into Maryland SDR, and played to completion 0338 when HRI starts with a bit of overlap. Delayed start as JL admitted he was ``running late`` past 0300. Modulation sounds a bit rough and of course narrow AM or LSB or SAL required to minimize 6165 Cuba splash, which WBCQ is doing nothing about. Next:

0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 9455 to WNW
2230 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed by Cuba]
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW [NEW]

** U S A. 5950, May 29 at 2317, gospel huxter on WRMI with Athens GA SDR still tuned here after WOR, finds it keeps cutting off air for a few seconds: or rather WRMI is OK, but Athens is acting up as there are no such interruptions when I switch to Knoxville. And Athens waterfall shows entire bandwidth interrupted (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15770, May 30 at 1935 semi-listening to `Flashpoint: Ukraine`` from VOA via WRMI, fair into UTwente, when at 1952 suddenly cuts to fill music; same thing has happened before, program interrupted somewhere along the line starting with Washington. BTW, R. Svoboda relay on 9370 is still absent this hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5970, May 30 at 0439, weak DRM-sounding noise intermittently but not 10 kHz wide; in continued absence of WEWN, or could it be WEWN attempting to resume? What else? Aoki shows Brasil and Denmark both 24 hours on 5970 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13840, May 30 at tune-in, big open carrier slightly off-frequency goes off right away at 0550*. Could be NZ as 11725 not yet on? But VG SSOB S9+10/20 on 15720 with `Checkpoint`. Or testing backup transmitter? 13840 in Aoki is also a CNR1 jammer/SOH channel, but doubt that now. Current RNZP sked shows 0558/0559 switch from 15720 to 11725, while 13840 is never in AM, only DRM at 1951-2058 except Saturdays (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity
23 - 29 May 2022

Solar activity ranged from very low to moderate levels throughout
the week. Moderate solar activity was observed on 25 May when an
M1/1n flare was observed at 25/1824 UTC from Region 3016 (S19,
L=074, class/area=Dao/180 on 18 May), which was the largest event of
the period. Solar activity was low on 23-24, and 26-28 May, and very
low levels were observed on 29 May. Regions 3014 (N24, L=105,
class/area=Dkc/1190 on 20 May) and 3017 (N13, L=085,
class/area=Dai/130 on 23 May) were the most active and complex
regions on the disk this period. No Earth-directed CMEs were
detected this period.

No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit was
normal to moderate throughout the week.

Geomagnetic field activity reached minor storm levels on 27-28 May
due to negative polarity CH HSS influence. Geomagnetic field
conditions were quiet and quiet to unsettled throughout the
remainder of the period.

Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity
30 May - 25 June 2022

Solar activity is expected to be at mostly low levels throughout the
period. M-class flare activity is possible on 07-22 Jun.

No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is
expected to reach high levels on 30 May-04 Jun, and be predominately
normal to moderate on 05-25 Jun.

Geomagnetic field activity is expected to reach minor storm levels
on 24 Jun, and active levels on 12-13, 16-17, and 23 Jun, due to
recurrent CH HSS influences. Quiet and quiet to unsettled conditions
are expected to prevail throughout the remainder of the period.

Next broadcast of "From the archives of Radio Andorra" (Saturday, June 4th 2022)

The next first Saturday per month is approaching. Time for another "from the archives of Radio Andorra"-programming:

He is chansonnier and crooner and loves Latin-American music like Tango. Famous in France but as well in other parts of the world, Mr. Guy Marchand turned 85 years old recently. As for his birthday, we've restored a radio program from summer 1979 which belongs to a series of shows that were produced by at that time well known musicians and actors.

Jazz, Pop, Rock’n’roll, Classical Music, Reggae and Cabaret in an unusual mix (as per radio standards of today) and some personal stories will be aired on Saturday, June 4th at the following times:

For Europe: 1700-1900 UTC on 6180 kHz via Moosbrunn, LogPer Antenna on 270°, 100kW

For NoAm: 2200-2400 UTC on 13730 kHz via Moosbrunn, HRS4/4/1 on 295°, 100kW

Both programs were made possible through the help of radio-enthusiasts who helped covering the costs for all the work.

If you want to have more of Radio Andorra in the future, you can help us making this possible here: https://gofund.me/9d1e4c8d

Glenn Hauser logs May 29, 2022

** CUBA. 13605, May 29 at 0635, add another frequency to the pointless overjamming, as OCB of course only uses this in daytime. Sounds like mixture of at least two sites at different pulse rates (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000 & 6060 & 6100 & 6165, May 29 at 0702, all four RHCs are off, so Esperantists are out of luck for first weekly broadcast on Sundays at 0700, now imaginary. Something`s always wrong at RHC. However, I do hear its sad theme starting about 1501 on 11760 and presumably secret 15140 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NEW ZEALAND. 11725, Sunday May 29 at 0630, RNZP is S9+10/20, SSOB as usual, not in English but some voices in language, probably Maori, occasionally lapsing into English terms; 0632 mentions Liam Neeson. 0633 outro and into English music request show of leftover items, from last night? This is contrary to the schedules online:

RNZP says Sundays at noon-8 pm [= 0000-0800 UT], it`s relaying RNZ National, so we have to look that up, this date:

``6:06 PM. Māpuna with Julian Wilcox --- Julian talks to Māori throughout Aotearoa, from sports legends, to business leaders, to artists and community advocates. (rpt)`` and next show not until: ``6:50 PM``. And, ``The Sunday Night Retro Show`` not until 0806 UT.

BTW, `Mediawatch` starting at 1015 UT, later than previously listed in our DX/SWL/MEDIA PROGRAMS guide. Yet the page of Mediawatch itself claims it be Sundays 10:12 pm, as well as 9:05 am [= 2105 UT Saturdays].

LATERALE LOGO SCALA PARLANTE - RIFERIMENTO COMMUTATORE -

LOGO VDP CONTROLLO TONALITA' VOLUME
SINTONIA COMMUTATORE GAMMA E FONO ATTENUATORE LOCALE - DISTANTE

POSTERIORE APERTO TELAIO 1
TELAIO 2 VALVOLE RIMOSSE TARGHETTA IDENTIFICATIVA E POSIZIONE VALVOLE

ZOCCOLO OCTAL PRIMA VERSIONE PRESA ALTOPARLANTE CONDENSATORE VARIABILE SCHERMATO

F I V R E CONDENSATORE VARIABILE SSR DUCATI COMPONENTI

BOBINA ONDE MEDIE IMPEDENZA ALTA FREQUENZA ONDE CORTE

CONDENSATORE A MICA ARGENTATA DUCATI 104 COMMUTATORE GAMMA CONDENSATORE A CARTA DUCATI
