Glenn Hauser logs June 29, 2021

** CHINA [and non]. Re my log of something 13920+ after CNR1 jammer off 1400* June 28, could it be Sound of Hope? Inconclusive, but Wolfgang Bueschel replies, ``TAIWAN 13919.991 kHz a tiny poor signal noted at 1352 UT June 29 remotedly on Tokyo SDR unit.`` And previously on March 7, 2012: ``13920.004 SOH Xi Wang Zhi Shen. Miaoli, Mandarin. S=5, 0756 UT. 73 wb df5sx``.

My CNR1 jammer logs June 29 at 1421: 13530 JBA vs CODAR; 13130 weaker Chinese; 12880 even weaker S5-S8; 12820 & 12500 JBA carriers (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. Something`s always wrong at RHC, and here is something stranger than ever. June 29 at 1424 I start tuning for spurs on the 13 MHz band, first finding 13580 with extremely distorted music blob with reconfirmed F# tone, that`s 120 kHz down from 13700 so next one should be around 13640: yes, but as soon as I get there it vanishes while 13700 has been replaced by fax?? sounds at S9+10. Beepery goes on and on and seems deliberate rather than random, some brief pauses. Reminds me some of fax and some of SSTV. I cannot decode either. Briefly at 1430 there is a mixture of this and undermodulated music at S9+10/20. One zero-beat is at 13703. At 1432 I check for more on the plus side: 13762 has F# blob, also weakers around 13825, 13886, 13948, trace 14013; and JBA trace circa 14075 where it collides with that hamband beepery, whatever it be. Back to the fundamental, which is now centered on 13705 with the SSTV/fax beepery; spurs now circa 13579, 13518 trace. 13705 continues past 1458. At 1459 I measure JBM carriers with F# tones on 13761.73 and 13638.29. At 1502, 13700 is off, but now 13705 is playing RHC music, no beepery, 1503 dead air and 1504* off! I wonder if the RHC broadcast sites, besides being shared with jammers, spies, also be shared with utility services (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KASHMIR [non]. 15170, it`s another Tuesday already June 29, so I remember just in time at 1525 to check UTwente for what`s on this week from IRRS: last week from 1500 it was ` Sounds Irish` music, and before that it was Kashmir Civitas clandestine. It`s back to the latter, S9+20/30, talk in presumed Urdu mentioning Kashmir with strumming musical background. 1527.5 ``salaam aleikum`` greeting in closing; 1528 a bit of other music and cut off air early? at 1528:15*, soon back on for a split second before gone for good.

Others had been hearing this earlier: Arthur Pozner near NYC, Harold Sellers in BC, and Paul Walker in AK.

Pozner says: ``Confirmed about the actual language. It is the same "Kashmir" program in Urdu and was received in several countries with various results. And a station ID came on in Russian: "This is Inter-Radio Romania"!``

Sellers says: ``fair-good in southern British Columbia at 1519 with presumed Kashmiri. Man with stringed instrument music in background into an on location report of some kind. Missed sign off which was before 1528. Was good at 1523`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. Quick check of nearby 25-watt ND beacon status, June 29 at 2255 UT: 255 SW Stillwater still off; 342 EI Enid and 515 PN Ponca City still ON (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2092 monitoring; next:
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
2200 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE

** U S A. 5800, June 29 at 0553, NO open carrier this Tuesday from presumed WRMI after-hours (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) However:

** U S A. 7730, June 29 at 0557, open carrier/dead air from this WRMI TOM frequency, while the others, 7570, 5850, 5950 and 9395 are OK (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7260, June 29 before 0559, and 11835 after 0600, JBA carriers from presumed R. Vanuatu resuming normal schedule (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

I’ll be taking phone calls with requests during the show as it’s truly LIVE. No station money was spent for this, It’s coming out of my pocket just to have something different up on shortwave got a few hours

The incredible reach of the Eswatini transmitter

Less than 2 percent of the Yao population are Christian. Abdi and Shafiq are just two of the many Yao Christians and population that TWR reaches from the Eswatini Transmitter.

TWR Africa has been spreading hope throughout the African continent since 1974 engaging millions in more than 50 countries.

Radio, the internet, mobile devices, TWR360, and other media sources open doors to allow the gospel to spread to countries where Christianity is legally forbidden, to animistic tribes in the Nuba Mountains who are cut off from the rest of civilization, and to displaced people fleeing war in northern Mozambique. We have been equipped with powerful media tools to take the Good News into places where we physically cannot go. Through the power of the Spirit, we can use radio and other mass media to accomplish the task Jesus gave us to make disciples of all nations.

TWR broadcasts from various transmitter sites in Africa including TWR Eswatini and the Middle East on shortwave, and TWR West Africa on medium wave (AM). In addition, TWR broadcasts programs via several TWR partner FM radio networks and a satellite channel that offer direct-to-home services to various parts of the continent.

Although new media are rapidly becoming an important part of life in Africa, radio remains the primary way people get their information. Since a radio set is typically the first luxury item that an African will buy, radio is one of the most valuable assets a family can have if they can afford one.

Radio has the advantage of being media that can reach all kinds of people irrespective of their racial background, age, religion, or class. It also crosses political and geographic borders. Thus, radio remains an effective and relevant medium. Listeners don’t have to pay to access radio like some newer media.

The transmitter in Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, broadcasts in 54 East and Southern African languages. The Eswatini Transmitter went on-air in 1974 and has been blanketing Southern Africa with the gospel message over shortwave ever since.

Over the years, God provided upgrades and replacements to the equipment that allowed TWR to extend its reach further and further from Eswatini. As the transmitter site made improvements over the years and depended on God’s goodness to supply their needs, they have expanded their reach to East and Central Africa, and even as far as South Asia.

Bringing Hope to Mozambique
Dealing with war is a daily struggle for many sub-Saharan Africans, be it a war between countries or fellow countrymen. During the Mozambique Civil War from 1977-1992, a total of 1 million people died in the fighting, with 5 million displaced and countless amputees from land mines. Death and disease paralyzed this country.

Amidst despair, a voice on the radio began telling stories of the wonderful love of Jesus. TWR penetrated the fighting in 1990 with Molumo Olipelela (Words of Hope), which offered Truth to the Makhuwa of Mozambique, Africa’s largest unreached animistic group. These messages quickly became louder as word of them started spreading throughout the country.

During the fighting, a listener said, “Something is happening. People in my country know about TWR.” These broadcasts spoke of peace, togetherness, friendship, and tranquility in the middle of extreme violence and disunity. People listening to the broadcasts were giving their lives to Christ. Churches started to develop. The country began to change.

In addition to the Makhuwa programs that were winning people to Christ, the Lomwe programs also trained church leaders in how to disciple these new believers. The purpose of Christian radio is not just to create believers, but disciples. As a result of six years of broadcasting into Mozambique, over 300 local congregations established themselves in the work of the Lord. Praise be to God for the way He united this country in His love despite the war that threatened to tear it apart.

Just as TWR offered hope during the 1977-1992 Civil War, TWR continues to offer hope in this current conflict in the northern portions of Mozambique. Since the war began, there are thousands more internally displaced people each month. The instability had led to huge numbers of people fleeing on foot with only what they can carry as their homes are no longer safe. As the turmoil continues into 2021, TWR brings hope to families caught in the middle of the conflict.

Reaching Somalia, Eritrea, and South Sudan
We redesigned the switch and made some changes to the antennas in Eswatini, which provided new opportunities to reach very difficult areas like Somalia, Eritrea, and South Sudan. Many of these areas are under heavy Islamic influence.

During Christmas last year we received feedback from listeners in Somalia who are tuning into programs being broadcast on shortwave and mediumwave. In Africa people still listen to shortwave radio. Especially in places where there is war and turmoil, people want to hear what is really happening.

The Yao of Southeast Africa
The Word of God is going out to many parts of Africa from the Eswatini Transmitter, including to the Yao population of Southern Malawi, Northern Mozambique, and Southern Tanzania.

A young Yao man, Abdi* in Southeast Africa searching for God responded to our broadcasts in his heart language (Yao) on shortwave from our transmitter site in Eswatini. “Help us to understand the better way to God, and that in the end, we may meet Christ.” Another Yao man, Shafiq*, asked us to pray with him so that his parents could come to salvation.

According to Joshua Project, less than 2 percent of the Yao population are Christian. Abdi and Shafiq are just two of the many Yao Christians and population that TWR reaches from the Eswatini Transmitter.

** CHINA. 13920, June 28 at 1359, tune-in just in time for CNR1 jammer to timesignal and off 1400* --- but wait, there is now a much weaker signal offset to the plus side but not measured. That could really be Sound of Hope, Taiwan. Wolfie may have measured it precisely sometime, but I haven`t found it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13740, 11850, 11760, 11670, June 28 at 2324, all these RHC frequencies scheduled now are absent; but 9710 & 9535 audible, as are CRI relays on 13650 and probably 11980 harmonic. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 17895.072, June 28 at 1437, Qur`an is JBA on always off-frequency; even weaker JBA carrier on 17614.989, the pair amounting to the only stations on band (OSOB) (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU [and non]. 7260, June 28 at 0543, JBA carrier, presumed R. Vanuatu back on `normal` sked and about to QSY to 11835. So ahead of time I park on 11834-USB to hear the carrier cut on, which it does at *0559:31, still JBA vs high ~S9 local 24/7 line noise level.

[I called it in to OG&E a week ago and a guy came by only to tell me that someone from OKC would have to come up and deal with it when they get around to it. There used to be a powerline noise DF guy in Enid but he`s moved on to a new position. Still QRX]

Ron Howard had reported RV AWOL from 7260/11835 for three days June 25-26-27, and had this Reply from Rob Wagner (Australia) on June 27:

``"Yes Ron. Here in mid-winter, I am hearing RV on 7260 for much of the day from 0200 to s/off. My notes show that on June 25, RV was there on 7260 at 0200 but gone when I checked that band again at 0310. Irregular operations and I suspect technical difficulties. I have not checked the other freqs. Rob"``

BTW, we would not be hearing RV on 7260 as early as 0330-0400, rather VOA Somali via Vatican yet VG signal here way off-target, violating Separation of Church and State (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 90.1, June 28 at 1518 UT, on household radio listening to KUCO, briefly overcome by gospel huxter in English, i.e. sporadic E trying to break thru, certainly not the usual CCI from also classical Radio Kansas KHCC; and nothing close enough to do that by Vance airplane scatter. So out to the car for DX bandscan, resulting in zilch till I quit at 1537. There is lots of Es on DXMAPs, some spots surpassing 90 or 100 MHz; and guys back east have DXed OK stations, but I am not so lucky in reverse. But then I am not constantly monitoring with a big antenna (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

On the caradio in a futile bandscan for sporadic E which is bouncing around elsewhere. On the DX-398, KIMY signal attempts to energize RDS icon but never an RDS display for definite ID. Still dead at later chex such as 2317 UT. My God! Imagine how many souls have not been saved in the meantime!! (I also have dead air vs stations on 95.1, but think this be algo RF-feeder left on somewhere nearby.)

(BTW, the KIMY translator in Enid on 93.1, K266BR, I last heard May 6, 2013! with noise before it totally crashed, and then noted as of May 28, 2013 that it had been off for a few weeks. It`s still in the WTFDA FM Database but now flagged as silent, so I suppose it`s still licensed after 8! years?! Meanwhile, Enid lax any local translator of any public radio station, tho I have suggested to one or two they should go after this frequency. Meanwhile, it`s semi-open for DX, fringely dominant KHMY Pratt KS, ``My 93.1`` with 100 kW and identifying more as a Hutchinson station.) (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2092 monitoring: NOT confirmed Sunday June 27 at 2000 as scheduled on IRRS via AM Italia, 918 kHz, as monitored via nearby Noale SDR: music keeps playing past 2001 and the signal is weaker than usual, only S9+17. I let it run in the background, and think I hear me at 2012, but turned up at 2015 it`s their local YL ID ``Have a good listening``, and more music.

NOT confirmed Sunday June 27 at 2200 on Area 51 via WBCQ, 6159.878v. I don`t get to check until 2227 when the air is dead on an S7-S9 carrier into Maryland SDR; did not get webcast checked before WOR would have ended at 2229. 6160- continues dead air past 2230 into HRI slot, but at 2241 it`s now modulating and also webcasting. (Other WBCQ with `UBMP` is S9 on 7488.861v.)

Confirmed Sunday June 27 at 2240 the 2230 on WRMI 9955, S9/+10 atop
Cuban pulse jamming.

Also confirmed UT Monday June 28 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, S9+10/20.

** U S A. 5050, June 28 at 0016 on caradio, memory stops on a loud dial tone! Then dead air for at least two minutes 0018+; typical for WWRB on its weekend-only ``schedule`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 750, June 27 at 2233 UT, on caradio a few miles N of Enid on US60/64/81 - northward, eastward and westward at same time all on the same rough stretch of 2-lane highway but being improved? I can get some music, probably gospel in Spanish, vs 740 KRMG splash and storm noise. It`s KMMJ, Grand Island, NE, which resumed recently after months of silence, with new owner and format.

LSS for June and July is 0200 UT, as late as it can be for this strange station, so I`m relistening on the DX-398 from 0152 UT June 28. Definitely loops N/S, fortunately just in the null E/W WSB which is gaining by now. YL is singing a slow song which could be mistaken for sad romantic, but surely of praise; can`t make out much of the lyrix. Chops off the air at 0200* sharp, no ID, no goodbye until tomorrow, certainly no formal sign-off. How rude! Who cares? This dog is being wagged by its FM translator tail which does not sign off.

Here`s a story about the new KMMJ, site good for regional radio news:

https://www.northpine.com/blog/2021/06/21/spanish-christian-format-launches-in-nebraska/ I see the radio-locator.com is up to date except you`d never know it is in Spanish!

FCC classifies KMMJ as 10.5 kW direxional same pattern day and night, and UNLIMITED, but it still has to go off at official local sunset. https://transition.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/amq?list=0&facid=9937 NRC classifies it L3, as direxional and ``limited time`` annotated as signing-on not at its own sunrise or PSRA, but at *Atlanta* sunrise, which in June and July is 1030 UT. Why bother? Pattern is irregular but a notch toward Atlanta and majorish lobes to north and southwest (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. CNR1 jammer survey, June 27 at 1411: 13530 JBA; rest JBA carriers on known frequencies: 13160, 13130, 16100; none in the 11 MHz WOOB area (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 13820, June 27 at 1349, residual pulse jamming against nothing since this is R. Martí`s B-season-only frequency; now it`s blasting in on 13605, obscuring here any possible jamming. Something`s always wrong at the DentroCuban Jamming Command (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ETHIOPIA [non]. Re June 25 report: ``I too had the white noise jamming on 17750 after 1500 today via UTwente, and a JBA carrier amid it. Are we only assuming 17750 has to be for Ethiopia since it`s jammed this way? Nothing listed anywhere. In EiBi I find this which we need to check whether still on 17870 - might have moved. ``1500 1600 ETH DimtseTigray MediaHouse TIG EAf 17870/F[RANCE]``

17750, June 27 at 1515, via UTwente again JBA carrier amid DRM-like noise jamming. More of the understation is audible via Kuwait SDR, 1521 HOA music and reverb announcement. At both locations there is *no* signal on 17870, so further evidence that the 17750 transmission is the one listed for 17870: Dimtse Tigray Media House.

17750 programming and jamming have continued past 1600, 1645+ unlike the one-hour ex-17870 schedule from 1500.

Wolfgang Bueschel was also monitoring, and convinced the jamming is from the Gedja, Ethiopia site. He and I both heard a few seconds` pause in jamming at 1530 for them to reconfirm target still running.

How effective could jamming from inside Ethiopia be on such a high frequency due to skip zone? Could the Ethiopians be getting help from an outside site?

Toward the end, 17750 programming well audible into Kuwait until cut off at 1658*. Noise remains but now is not the jamming which may have stopped earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 13565-CW, June 27 at 1351, K6FRC HIFER beacon repeating nothing but ham callsign, JBA vs CODAR swirshes. TEXAS RADIO SHORTWAVE TO HOST EUROPEAN FREE RADIO AND LOW-POWER LICENSED STATIONS VIA WRMI FOR 9 WEEKS IN JULY AND AUGUST

Texas Radio Shortwave will host a series of one-hour programs by European free-radio and low-power licensed stations during July and August.

The programs will be broadcast every Friday night at 10 p.m. ET (Saturday at 0200 UTC elsewhere) by WRMI, Okeechobee, Florida, on 5800 kHz.

eQSLs will be available from individual stations. TRSW will not issue eQSLs for these programs.

These popular stations are heard regularly in Europe but seldom in North America because of propagation conditions.

Dates and featured stations are as follows:

July 03 - Radio Igloo, Sweden
July 10 - Charleston Radio International, Germany
July 17 - Radio Merlin, UK
July 24 - Radio Monique International, The Netherlands
July 31 - CoolAm Radio, The Netherlands
August 7 - Cupid Radio, The Netherlands
August 14 - Free Radio Service- Holland, The Netherlands
August 21 - Atlantic 2000 International, France
August 28 - Radio Delta International, The Netherlands.

Here’s a little about each station for July:

Radio Igloo (radioigloo@gmail.com)
Radio Igloo is a free radio station with its studio located somewhere in Sweden. All programs are pre-recorded and they use different free radio stations in Europe and the US to get their programs on the air. The Radio Igloo team is a small one, with only 4 members. They like to produce music, and making radio programs is only a small part of their business.

Charleston Radio International (charlestonradiointernational@yahoo.com)
Charleston Radio International, located in Berlin, Germany, began transmitting on shortwave radio on April 22, 2018. The station takes you back to the golden years of AM Radio: the 1920s, ‘30s, and ‘40s, with talk, radio jingles, and original music from that time featuring tangos, foxtrots, and waltzes. Their Facebook page is at https://www.facebook.com/CharlestonRadioInternational/.

Radio Merlin (radiomerlin@blueyonder.co.uk)
Radio Merlin went on the air in 1990 after changing its name from Radio Galaxy. Radio Galaxy was an FM station that moved to shortwave in 1989 after authorities raided it many times. They changed their name to Merlin as there was already a station called Radio Galaxy. From 1990 until 1994 the transmitter site was an abandoned electrical substation. After being raided many times the station closed down for a few years and returned to broadcasting in 2004 with a new transmitter location. Radio Merlin is regularly heard throughout Europe with a transmitter power of about 20 Watts.

Radio Monique International (radiomoniqueradio@hotmail.nl)
Radio Monique started on December 16, 1984, with a 50-kW mediumwave transmitter onboard the ship Ross Revenge anchored in international waters between the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. At that time only state-owned radio stations were allowed to operate in The Netherlands. After the 90-meter mast (highest ever built on a ship) broke, the station had a shortwave transmitter in English and recently a medium wave transmitter again in the Dutch language. Radio Monique can be found at or near 6285 kHz several hours each week. Their website is https://radiomonique.blogspot.com/.

CoolAM Radio (coolamradio@hotmail.com)
CoolAM Radio is a European free radio station that’s one of the few Dutch pirate stations using a low-power transmitter as opposed to the huge military surplus transmitters or powerful homemade equipment of other Dutch stations. CoolAM Radio is seldom on-the-air but is relayed by North American free radio stations on a regular basis. It’s also aired via Germany commercial shortwave station Channel 292. In Europe, CoolAM was most often heard on 6735 kHz.

A cuore aperto: IMCARADIO I.F.71 (1935)

Come promesso, ecco la prima delle due IMCARADIO I.F.71 che avevo promesso di mostrare a cuore aperto.

STEMMA IMCARADIO MODELLO ESAGAMMA MANOPOLE ORIGINALI

USCITA CUFFIA PRESA FONO TELAIO

Niente commutatori, niente falsi contatti e collegamenti brevissimi.
