Zambia: Voice of Hope schedule change

Voice of Hope - Africa is temporarily suspending morning broadcasts and resuming evening broadcasts once again, due to changes in the 'load shedding' schedule by the local power utility, ZESCO.  Effective tomorrow, Saturday 1st August, we will be transmitting:

1400-1600 UTC daily on 6065 & 9680 kHz
1600-2130 UTC daily on 4965 & 6065 kHz

The evening broadcasts on 6065 may afford better listening opportunities for DX-ers in Europe.  Reception reports are always welcome to reports@voiceofhope.com.

A full program guide is on our website, here:  http://voiceofhope.com/schedule/voh-africa_program_grid.pdf   We are hopeful we will be able to resume broadcasting in both the mornings and evenings later this year as the local electricity supply improves.

Glenn Hauser logs July 31, 2020

** CHINA. CNR1 jammer survey, July 31 at 1340: JBA 12880 is the only one in this WOOB area: resuming at 1359, all I have time to find before 1400* are 11440 with flutter, 11150 and 11120 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5025, July 31 at 0558, R. Rebelde at S9+10/20 but suptorted; wiggle that patchcord. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba. 5040 RHC English is already off (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15230, July 31 at 1337, RHC is S4-S6 of undermodulation, suptortion; 15140 by comparison is much better. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 13635.007, July 31 at 1330 Turkish talk, 1332 music at S6-S9, slightly off frequency. Don`t usually hear VOT here. O, that`s because as Ivo Ivanov reports, today it failed to switch to 9840 by 1300; ``something`s always wrong at Emirler transmitting station!`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U A E. 11830.115, July 31 at 1418, JBA carrier way off-frequency, a sure tipoff it`s from one of our favorite skewed sites --- in this case, NHK World Radio Japan via Al-Dhabbiya scheduled this semiihour only in English; and gone at recheck 1439.

BTW, altho Aoki ignores such variants, it has another intriguing entry nearby: 11828, 1330-1358, V of Turkey in Kazakh. Does not appear to be a typo, correctly placed between 11825s and 11830s. That`s supposed to be 11825 per EiBi. In the past, this transmission would sometimes start late, failing to change frequency from preceding English on 15450 or 12035 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2045 contents: Antarctica, Australia and non, Bolivia non, Canada, China, Congo DR, Cuba, Djibouti non, Europe, France, Germany, Guinea, Ireland, Korea South & North, Madagascar, México, Myanmar, Netherlands, Northern Mariana Islands, Solomon Islands, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sudan South non, Turkey, USA, Vatican; and the propagation outlook.

UNIDENTIFIED. 4810.1, July 31 at 0600, AM carrier amid the constant utehashmush, not normally there. Could some broadcaster be trying to combat it? Used to be on 4810, XERTA. Radio Logos, Perú is supposedly active but not at this hour. Only other 4810 is AIR, Mumbai per Aoki, Delhi per EiBi but unpropagable at this midday hour even if were on (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOWR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 12419.84-USB approx., July 31 at 1342, one side of 2-way in Spanish; mentions ``toneladas``. This area is for ship stations so could be legit; but one never hears any explicit IDs from these (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

The website is www.tumbril.co.uk where we show transmission times and frequencies, the playlist for the most recent programme, more information about Radio Tumbril, and the email link.

This week's programme  begins with part of Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Mandolins, followed by some unusual piano studies by Janáček. Next some of Mozart's Jupiter Symphony and two contemporary pieces by Cheryl Frances-Hoad. Two very different but linked songs and a wind quartet finish the programme.

Channel 292 can be pulled live off the internet if the reception is poor in your location. Easy to find their site with a google search.

Propagation News – 2 August 2020

The Sun showed signs of coming back to life this week with not one, but two, sunspot groups. The sunspot number climbed to 22, representing two spots in two separate groups, and the solar flux index rose to 73. This wasn’t really enough to make much of a difference to HF propagation though, but it is a step in the right direction. The Kp index was pegged pretty much at one or two due to a lack of coronal hole activity.

Propagation-wise, we continued to have a good run of sporadic E, with openings to the USA and Canada on 10m SSB and FT8, and China was reported on SSB in last weekend’s IOTA contest. Even Nand, VU2NKS, in India has been reported in the UK via 10m FT8. Next week NOAA predicts that the solar flux index will decline from 72 down to 68 as the two sunspots rotate out of view. The Kp index should remain low all week as well due to a lack of coronal hole activity. Propagation will remain at seasonal lows as we enter August, with daytime F2 maximum usable frequencies grazing 17-18MHz, and with sporadic E bringing openings up to 30MHz and beyond. Night-time maximum usable frequencies are likely to exceed 10MHz over 3,000km paths, but keep an eye on propquest.co.uk for the odd surprise. We can’t really expect F2 layer openings to improve until September, so make the most of the sporadic E openings for now.

VHF and up:

The next week or so looks to be a mix of brief spells when high pressure might present us with some tropo, as seen just recently at the end of the last week, due to a temporary high over the near continent. The longer range part of the forecast also picks up another high at the end of the coming week, although for both these highs, the main areas of enhanced tropo are for central and southern Britain across the Channel and North Sea, into the continent and Baltic region.

The period in between the two high-pressure ‘bookends’ is occupied by low-pressure systems with fronts and showery troughs adding a good chance of rain scatter again on the GHz bands. The summer months are particularly good for strong thundery shower-cloud development with plenty of high-intensity rainfall or hail.

Sporadic E has performed fairly well in the last week, particularly for FT8, but with a smattering of more traditional modes. The general advice still holds—check the bands mid-morning, late afternoon and early evening for signs of sporadic E. It’s never too late for sporadic E, until maybe the end of the first week in September, so it’s still well worth a look.

The Moon is at minimum declination this Sunday so there will be very low peak Moon elevations and short visibility windows early in the week. This means that, despite 144MHz sky noise being low, the man-made noise from the horizon will be in the main beam of all but the largest antennas.

There are no significant meteor showers this week. (rsgb.org)

The K7RA Solar Update

Tad Cook, K7RA, Seattle, reports: Finally, sunspots have returned! Two sunspots now are visible, both from new Solar Cycle 25. The daily sunspot number was 11 for July 21-27, rising to 22 for July 28-30.

Recently, we have noticed an improvement in propagation due to seasonal sporadic-E activity.

Average daily sunspot numbers rose from 3.1 to 14.1 this week, and average daily solar flux edged up from 69.1 to 71.1.

Total sunspot area covered 80 millionths of the solar disc on July 21, 120 millionths on July 22-26, and the coverage on the following 4 days was 70, 50, 85 and 110.

Geomagnetic indicators were a bit more active, with average daily planetary A index rising from 3.9 to 6.7, while average daily mid-latitude indicators rose from 4.3 to 8.7.

Predicted solar flux is 72 on July 31 – August 2, 70 on August 3 – 7, 68 on August 8 – 22, 69 on August 23 – 28, and 68 on August 29 – September 13.

Predicted planetary A index is 5 on July 31, then 8 and 10 on August 1 – 2, 5 on August 3 – 23, 8 on August 24 – 25, and 5 on August 26 – September 13.

Here is the geomagnetic activity forecast for the period July 31 to August 26 from F.K. Janda, OK1HH. The geomagnetic field will be:

Quiet on August 4 – 7, 15 – 19, 22 – 26

Quiet to unsettled on July 31, August 2 – 3, (8,) 9, 11, (12 – 14,) 20

Quiet to active on (August 1, 10, 21)

Unsettled to active not expected

Active to disturbed not expected

Solar wind will intensify on: August 1 – 3 (-4, 11 – 15,) 20 – 21, (22 – 25)

Notes:

+Parenthesis means lower probability of activity enhancement.

+Predictability of changes remains lower this time, thanks to new active regions on the Sun.

Glenn Hauser logs July 30, 2020

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-CUSB, LRA36 eQSL direct received July 29. Filled in only date, country and name Guillermo Glenn Hauser but lots of other station info on card including two seals and what looks like a commemorative postal cancellation, or maybe a rubber stamp, via http://www.worldofradio.com/QSL.html where it`s #97: http://www.w4uvh.net/GUILLERMO.jpg. Frequency is first shown as ``15.476 khz AM - OC`` but below: ``Emisiones de Prueba !USB¡``, while AFAIK it has always been USB with reduced AM carrier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. CNR1 jammer survey, July 30 at 1348: 14850 JBA; 13835 S4-S8; 13130 S7-S9 // 13835; 13020 S5; 12880 S5; 12820 S4; 12795 JBA; 12550 S7; 11170; 11150; 11100 just in time before 1400*. 10920 open carrier still a bit past 1400 before off too.

11170 & 11120, July 30 at 1421, these CNR1 jammers are still on JBA.

11785, July 30 at 1418, open carrier --- either CNR1 jammer against VOA Chinese via Philippines not turned off at 1400; or CRI Chinese via Kashgar, East Turkistan scheduled this hour but failing to modulate.

Also at 1350, steady carrier on 14745.2 as heard before but think it`s unrelated unID (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11627 & 11713, July 30 at 0034, major spurblobs at S9 out of RHC 11670, plus & minus about 43 kHz; better readable in AM than FM mode; also another +43 around 11756, and JBA minus 43 around 11584 JBA. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15230, July 30 at 0040, RHC still on here at S9 but Just Barely Modulated. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11742-11777, July 30 at 1420, splatter range out of RHC 11760. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 515-MCW kHz, July 30 at 0559, NDB PN in Ponca City is back on the air (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF20, July 30 at 1533 UT, regional tropo enhancement showed a Bad signal only on this open channel earlier, so I stayed on it and by now has visiblized with stable Dr Oz show on KQCW-HD Tulsa market; no subchannels. This is the one most likely to decode with any enhancement. OKC RF 27 KFOR is blocked by DX as is RF 17 3ABN translator in Enid (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. (7275), July 30 at 0315 despite my alarm, miss checking VOT Letterbox on final UT Thu repeat, but via WOR Hitlist I find the podcast at http://www.radio360.eu/podcasts/en/tr/vot/20200729_1430.mp3 Ibrahim does the sign-on, claiming it`s the 1330-1430 broadcast on 15450 while it`s really an hour earlier all summer. More features follow until `Letterbox` starts at :19 into.

Follows up to last week about his friend in Malaysia with cancer: he died on July 23. Letters from: Otto Schwartz, Calabash?? NC USA whose handwriting is as bad as a doctor`s but is a very handsome guy with very big hands, and whose picture will be put on the wall forever; next from Michael Goeren?, Upland? California USA who had QRM from hams on 40m band; Brian D Webb, Upper Hutt, NZ; Japan who is getting fat for lack of exercise; and about protecting borders against PKK terrorist group which is where I came in on the 2200 broadcast: ``Turkish nation never killed any innocent people``. Says next `Letterbox` will be in *two* weeks time, ending at :33, into `Did You Know That` about healing mud baths, by YL announcer also with heavy accent (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 18115-USB, July 30 at 1840, long ragchew about lawn care, etc., finally ID as W7ID. The only phone station on band besides his JBA contact, after also finding no propagation on 10, 11, 12 or 15 meters. DXMap does not show any Es MUF blob between us. QRZ.com: ``W7ID USA flag, JEFFREY P BISHOP, CALDWELL, ID 83607-8233 USA`` with his ham-bio, photos of self, magazine covers, antennas, etc.: http://www.qrz.com/lookup/w7id (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2044 monitoring: confirmed UT Thu July 30 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, JBA here but good at UTwente Holland SDR. New WOR 2045 should be ready early UT Friday July 31 for first WRMI airing at 2200 on 9955 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9395, UT Thu July 30 at 0042, Jeff White with examples of cable TV audio when he was in a Phnom Penh hotel (why? when?) as `AWR Wavescan` feature. Thought it might be // 5010 but too buried in noise; should have checked 5950 which I later find scheduled // for System G during this hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Radio Emma Toc World Service - New Request Show!

End of the month, so - time for another Radio Emma Toc World Service programme!

Something slightly different this time - a one hour request show with music all chosen by our listeners, so a wide variety.

A couple of points - we've got a special eQSL card for this programme so feel free to send in reception or listener reports. Also, please note some of our transmission times are slightly different to accommodate this one hour special.

Below is our Schedule Summary. You can also listen online at www.emmatoc.com (but it's much more fun on SW with guaranteed atmospherics, oscillation & maybe even a bit of jamming), and, if you'd like to hear different music or more of the same then send in a request for the next Global Request Show in a few months' time. Please give us a choice of 2 or 3 songs to help with availability, & a little information - how you got interested in radio? / favourite station to listen to? / or similar...

Happy DXing / Happy Listening

Glenn Hauser logs July 29, 2020

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-CUSB, eQSL sent and received at 1733 UT July 29 for my LRA36 remote reception of July 25 --- but from RAE itself, not LRA 36: ``QSL de RAE para Glenn Hauser``. It`s very nice with 6 scenic views of different regions of Argentina, not including Antarctica, and no mention of LRA36 by name or of Antarctica. But it does fill in 15476, date and time. I had cc`d to RAE my report to LRA36, so perhaps an eQSL direct from the latter is still pending. The programmation for this was after all produced by RAE so this is not inappropriate, maybe #259 issued as in file name, while I was honored explicitly with #1 for RAE via WRMI in May 2017y, #85 & #86 in my gallery, linked below. This comes from an address other than what I used: qslrae@logdeargentina.com.ar

Here it is, #96 at
http://worldofradio.com/QSL.html
http://www.w4uvh.net/00000259-QSL.jpg
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. CNR1 jammer survey, July 29 at 1405-1410: none at all found in the WOOB areas from 15 to 9 MHz. N & S Korea, Japan are audible. There is a large dropoff of jamming at 1400* altho SOH and other targets may stay on later (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11670 and spurblobs, July 29 at 0055-0059 from RHC, about 42 kHz intervals above and below circa 11712, 11754, 11796, 11838, trace 11880, 11923; with F# tone at least; and 11634-11627, 11586, trace 11544. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 28166-CW, July 29 at 1925, beacon ``VVV XE2O/B EL05 5W`` with some repeats. Somewhat chirpy and sounds like original recording may have been hand-keyed. Wish I had measured it as I thought it was on the plus side of 28167, but listed by WJ5O as: ``28.166 XE2O C ALLENDE, NL, MEXICO # 5W, VERTICAL  NEW 30 Aug 2010 new call 7 Aug 11`` --- Ciudad de Allende is SE of Monterrey on the way to Montemorelos. Only station audible on the 10m band, sporadic E but MUF way below 88 MHz. See also UNID 27455-USB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS. 13755.046, Wed July 29 at 1409, JBA talk on typical offset of USAGM sites here, i.e. RFA Cantonese via TINIAN, this hour only M/W/F. Both before and after this hour, CRI via Kashgar, East Turkistan, is no doubt more precisely on 13755.00 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 515-MCW, July 29 at 0606, NDB PN Ponca City is off again; and 341-MCW, EI Enid remains off since last report (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, Wed July 29 at 2230 tune-in via UTwente, VOT English is on today and VG, even without hum, but splash from 9685 which is the orphan CRI ``Portuguese`` service of fill-music-only, via Kashgar; why bother? --- as `Letterbox` is concluding until 2235 with host explaining Turkey`s official line about Kurdistan --- ``just defending our borders`` against PKK, not all Kurds. (The trouble is, the Kurds don`t have any official borders of their own as 4 or 5 adjacent countries gobbled up all their territory including SE part of Turkey where Kurds are majority.) On to next feature; IS plays at 2248-2250*. I set alarm to catch L`box from start at next and last repeat 0315 Thursday on 7275 intruding into the North American hamband (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2044 monitoring: missed checking Wed July 29 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490v: did anyone hear it? Next and last repeat: 0100 UT Thursday  WRMI 7780 to NE

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html

Thanks this week for financial support from Richard Langley, Fredericton NB, for a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com -- not necessarily in US funds as they will convert

One may also contribute via MO or check in US funds on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702.

WOR 2045 should be ready by early UT Friday July 31 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 4736.5-4740-4743.5, July 29 at 0040, strange multitonal sending over this range, at first almost musical but could not resolve it with any SSB tuning (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 14745.190, July 29 at 1413, JBA signal, perhaps Sound of Hope, listed by EiBi not here but as close at 14725.3 and 14774.7 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 27455-USB, July 29 at 1922, Spanish freebander pileup, Guatemala mentioned, as sporadic E struggles to maximize its frequency. A good time to check for Ulis` 7th harmonic of TGAV on 28385 but still no sign of it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs July 28, 2020

** ANTARCTICA. Bruce Churchill comments on my not getting an LRA36 eQSL yet: ``Glenn, Sometimes the LRA-36 replies are within hours, but in my experience, it`s more like several days to possibly a month or so. But they will reply, and that’s more than I can say for most SW stations these days ☹… Bruce``. And Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain, says: ``The staff of LRA 36 are replying all the reception report received. It will take them several days to answer all of them.

``From the second Saturday of August, LRA 36 probably will be on air every Saturday, 15476 USB mode, repeating the Wednesday's program "Corazón Antártico". It has to be decided if it will be on air the two hours of the show "Corazón Antártico", or 24 hours, with the show and music, like the last USB transmission. On Wednesday, July 29, there will be no program, like the past July 15 and 22, due to announcer's holiday. Next "Corazón Antártico" program will be on air on Wednesday August 5`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

28231-CW, July 28 at 1425, dits and WA4FC/B; alternating between dits seem to emit gridsquare, uncopied. Only one noticed but no time to dig deeper; however, still there at 1502 recheck. WJ5O roster: ``28.231 WA4FC I PRINCE GEORGE, VA # 5W, VERTICAL new` 29 July 08`` Previously logged in June, and got a p-mail QSL card.

28300-CW, July 28 at 2012, K6FRC/B sends nothing but callsign as also heard before, more than his 18 milliwatts on 13565: ``28.300 K6FRC C TRACY, CALIFORNIA # 100W, "POGO stick" VERTICAL Freq change 8 July 09`` Only one audible now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 840 kHz, July 28 at 0400 & 0409 UT, WHAS Louisville KY is still on. Earlier, Chris Gay tipped the WOR iog that WHAS had announced it would go off the air at midnight - 0400 UT - for antenna maintenance, duration unknown. I leave a radio on 840 and around 0415 WHAS seems gone but others say it was 0417 or 0418 so it may have been in a fade a bit before. Then listening closely I hear some talk in Spanish, followed by mostly music. #1 suspect is CMHW Santa Clara, CUBA. Considerable splash ACI as if from music, but unseems from WCCO or KOA. When aimed N/S I get a fast SAH presumably involving KVJY in the RGV, also Spanish format, but religion. Not rechecked until 0631 when I still hear Spanish stronger; 0634 WHAS cuts on about iHeart Radio for a few seconds, off again. *0637 WHAS back on again, seemingly to stay, in `C2CAM` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs July 27-28, 2020

** ANTARCTICA. On July 26, I sent my log of the Sat July 25 LRA36 special for QSL, to the address I heard announced, and quoted in my log report, tranalra36@radionacional.com.ar --- but it bounced July 27. So I resent it to an address mentioned in previous publicity: tranalra36@radionacional.gov --- I hope this one be correct. That one just bounced too, immediately. WHAT is the correct one? Bruce Churchill replied: Tranalra36@radionacional.gov.ar --- This is the correct address``. So I try a third time: no bounce, but no reply yet either. Trana is name of the LRA36 person (Glenn Hauser, OK, July 28, WOR)

** CUBA. 11670, July 28 at *0011:46.5, RHC carrier cuts on and starts undermodulating Spanish in less than a minute. Arnie`s official sked claims this runs from 23 to 04 UT for Rio de Janeiro, so I have been wondering whether there would be an overlap with REE Spain (q.v.) which on weekdays goes off at 2304*. So I set the ATS-909 to 11669-USB and waited for a carrier/tone to appear. No collision today, but does it ever start on time at *2300? Something`s always wrong at RHC.

11670 is the current big spurblobber, rather than 13700 in the mornings, likely the same transmitter. At 0020 I check for those: circa 11633 and 11713, but not equally offset, minus 37 and plus 43. Then I go back to the lower and find it spreads as far as 11625 = minus 45. Almost readable listening in FM or AM modes, hum along with the telltale F# tone above Middle C. Also JBA around 11593 but no more on the plus side with inband QRM. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, July 28 at 0056, RHC S9+10/20 of dead air in English, then some JBM and suptortion, while // 6145 is sufficient. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 95.5-WBFM, July 27 at 2112 UT, ``K-95.5, Tulsa`s New Country`` as KWEN-FM, originally counterpart of KKNG in OKC, holds its own against our 95.7 local tnx to tropo boost after heavy rain.  Differs slightly from WTFDA DB listing, ``K-95 FM`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Monday July 27 at 2203, REE with Justin Coe introducing fusion of flamenco and jazz by Daniel García, in the thrice-weekly English service --- this sounds very familiar, and is in fact a re-run of the Monday July 6 broadcast.

11670, Mon July 27 at 2300, REE earworm IS post-sign-off from its weakest frequency here, for Africa until 2304* while much stronger off-the-back instead of -side 12030 for ME continues a bit longer. Meanwhile only the two other frequencies for N&S America, 9690 & 11940 are still programming from 2300 with Portuguese. This is correcting the WRTH July 20 Update which had all four frequencies for that until 2330, but typo for one of them as 2200-2230 M-F. I am really checking whether a collision at 2300 with CUBA, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, July 27 at 2200, VOT English is on and NSS-less; 2249 recheck IS already playing after closing (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 6993, July 28 at 0054, at least two JBA carriers beating against each other. Time for another occasional log of presumed propagation research stations in Florida. Terry Kruger sent me in April 2016 the FCC CP and license pdf about this, but which I can no longer find on the FCC website, under file number 0388-EX-PL-2015, perhaps because the one-year experimental license expired on July 1, 2016 --- but if renewed perhaps with a different number. No hits on the callsign either, WH2XWF, nor on ASTRA. Anyhow the pertinent info then was:

Atmospheric & Space Technology Research Associates (ASTRA), LLC.

Station Locations
(1) Cross City (DIXIE), FL - NL 29-37-46; WL 83-06-28
(2) Hawthorne (PUTNAM), FL - NL 29-39-42; WL 81-57-26
(3) Inverness (CITRUS), FL - NL 28-47-58; WL 82-18-58
(4) Homosassa (CITRUS), FL - NL 28-44-55; WL 82-33-19
(5) Keystone (HILLSBOROUGH), FL - NL 29-50-40; WL 82-02-24

Each of them on the same four frequencies, all with 164 watts ERP: 4443, 4647, 6769, 6993 kHz. They may be running open carriers only without IDs or anything, but too weak to be sure. Can anyone confirm whether same ones are still going on 6993?

Closest hits on HF Underground are complaints about a carrier on 6993 QRMing a naughty pirate call on 6995 in 2016, 2017. No significant hits on call or frequency at UDXF iog (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2044 monitoring: confirmed Monday July 27 from 1800:47.5 on IRRS via BULGARIA 7290, usual VG signal at UTwente SDR and also usual inevitable worble from 7291 and splash from 7280 & 7300. Open carrier at tune-in 1756; a few sex before 1759 JIP fragment of talk about pandemic; few sex before 1800 cut to IRRS sign-on with P O Box in Milano, Feature Story News from Washington, headlines only before WOR start. Seems running intact until recheck just before 1830, my last few words ironically chopped off after ``when I conclude`` before I can finish ``with a standard disclaimer``. Nevertheless, it still applies.

Also confirmed UT Tue July 28 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, S5-S9 but JBA direct; good at UTwente. Next:
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0100 UT Thursday  WRMI 7780 to NE

UNIDENTIFIED. 6965-AM, July 28 at 0055, JBA carrier, maybe trace of music, pirate? Nothing in HFU (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs July 27, 2020

** CHINA [and non]. CNR1 jammer survey, July 27 at 1352-1400: again none found in the WOOB areas of 13, 12, 11, 10 or even 9 MHz; but there is a poor inband signal on 9680 until 1400* timesignal and off. Is it propagation, or has there been a cutback? N Korea is still propagating poor-fairly on 11735, 11710, self-jamming on 9435, and S Korea on this week`s jumparound 9095.

11440, an hour later at 1454 at least is JBA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA [non]. 11880, July 27 at 1455, S9+30 of open carrier, so CRI Plus English relay via CUBA at 1500 seems promising tho did not get around to evaluating. There had been reports of this missing, not only from the canceled 14-15 hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11634-11635, July 27 at 0133, extremely distorted spurblob at S5-S7 but loud, and tone also audible in FM mode; with similar sound on source 11670 RHC transmitter, and more at 35-36 kHz intervals: 11706, 11742, 11776 vs Brasil 11780.

It so happens that `En Contacto` starts at 0135 UT Monday, Arnie with variety of topix, including ``QSL en el aire`` to someone in Arequipa, Perú for a report of --- 11670! NOTHING said about the spurs it outputs! Arnie says this transmitter and antenna put out 4 megawatts of ERP. Then another report from Brasil of someone hearing English on 15140 at 1900 --- and again no mention of the constantly defective modulation there! And if a QSL on the Air is provided, does that mean you don`t get a hard- or e-copy?? Axually listening on clear 11760; also on 11800 which is suptorted; wiggle that patchcord! Somethings` always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 5150-USB, July 27 at 0127, JBA music vs HSNL. Per https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,69905.0.html it`s Radio 48. This area just above Area 51 has become active for pirates I need to check more often (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Despite heavy storms in western Kansas heading this way, some ND beacons are audible vs the noise:

388-MCW kHz, July 27 at 0533 UT, OB --- pretty sure of this ID but no matches in either list nor on adjacent frequencies; closest would be OK, 388 in Okmulgee OK, 25 watts.

395-MCW kHz, July 27 at 0542 UT, ULS, 25 watts in Ulysses KS where the storms are.

417-MCW kHz, July 27 at 0543 UT, IY, 25 watts in Charles CItY, Iowa; I was tuned to 415-USB.

420-MCW kHz, July 27 at 0546 UT, PK, 25 watts at Olathe - Herbb KS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2044 monitoring: confirmed UT Monday July 27 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, VG at Austin TX KiwiSDR, close to its aim, and at 0053 check also VG here, S9+20/30.

Also confirmed UT Mon July 27 at 0130 on WRMI 7780, VP S5-S7 here.

Also confirmed UT Mon July 27 at 0230 on WRMI 7780, VG at UTwente.

Also confirmed UT Mon July 27 from 0302 on Area 51 via WBCQ 5130, good at Rochester SDR; here, S9/+10 including high storm noise level from Kansas.

Also confirmed UT Mon July 27 at 0330 on WRMI 9955, JBA here; inaudible on TWR SDRs Bonaire, DR, Boa Vista, but fair at Brasília, good at Maine SDR! Next:

1800vUT Monday    IRRS 7290 Bulgaria to WNW, 594-Italy
0100 UT Tuesday   WRMI 7780 to NE
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0100 UT Thursday  WRMI 7780 to NE

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html

Thanks this week for financial support from Richard Langley, Fredericton NB, for a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com -- not necessarily in US funds as they will convert

One may also contribute via MO or check in US funds on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9955, July 27 at 1402, WRMI is still on with anti-ChiCom comments from Freedom Synergy Radio, but gone at 1419 recheck. So it seems running past 1400 weekdays is irregular, unintentional (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5050, July 27 at 0128, S9+30/40 of dead air and then annoying fast busy signal for at least a minute before I get out of there. Someone`s program feed by phone has failed to WWRB; at least confirmed still on air UT Mondays and presumably also Sundays (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1540-, July 27 at 0147 UT, big low het to 1540.0 stations, doubtless KGBC Galveston TX doing it again sporadically.

1560, July 27 at 0147 UT, Vietnamese in the mix but not dominant, doubtless KGOW Bellaire TX; both Houston market; vs a Fox Sports Radio (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, July 27 at 0155: nothing lower but a JJBBA het from 891 upon WLS, doubtless the Algerian which makes it if any (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6970, July 27 at 0125, JBA AM carrier, maybe a pirate or mixing product. Nothing recent on HFUnderground. With bonker QRM from about 6973 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity
20 - 26 July 2020

Solar activity was very low throughout the period. New Region 2767
(S21, L=200, class/area Hsx/120 on 26 Jul) rotated onto the disk on
21 Jul, but was quiet and stable. A slow-moving, partial halo CME
was detected in coronagraph imagery in the NE quadrantat at about
19/1135 UTC. Subsequent model analysis indicated an Earth-directed
component would likely become geoeffective on 24-25 Jul. No other
CME activity was detected during the period.

No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit was at
normal to moderate levels throughout the period.

Geomagnetic field activity was at quiet levels 20-23 Jul. Field
conditions reached unsettled to active levels on 24-25 Jul due to
effects from the 19 Jul CME. A return to quiet conditions was
observed on 26 Jul. Solar wind parameters reflected enhanced
conditions on 24-25 Jul as a result of CME effects. Solar wind
speeds increased from approximately 300 km/s to near 415 km/s. Total
field peaked at 11 nT while the Bz component dropped south to -10
nT. Density levels increased to 28 particles/cc. Ambient solar wind
parameters were present on 20-23 Jul and 26 Jul.

Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity
27 July - 22 August 2020

Solar activity is expected to be very low throughout the outlook
period.

No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is
expected to be at normal to moderate levels thoughout the outlook
period.

Geomagnetic field activity is expected to be quiet to unsettled on
28-29 Jul due to a negative polarity CH HSS. Quiet conditions are
expected to prevail throughout the rest of the outlook period.

Glenn Hauser logs July 26, 2020

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-CUSB, July 26 at 1545, LRA36 has supposedly stayed on all night until 1500 but it`s still on, as activity publicity never seems accurately fulfilled; sufficient via Brasil SDR, almost nothing but music; `Ave Maria` nice harmony hymn playing at tune-in, then lots more secular? songs. 1606 mentions Santiago del Estero; 1633 song about Provincia de Santa Fe; 1802 brief talk about the music; 1816 at last canned LRA36 ID and plug `Corazón Antártico` program. Finally cut off about 1833*. I had been listening with half an ear all this time, mainly to WYSU`s pipe organ music. Let`s face it, hardly any of the program content on LRA36 is about *ANTARCTICA*, rather Argentina and lots of music which is hardly Antarctican either (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. CNR1 jammer survey, July 26 at 1355-1400: NONE found WOOB in the 13s, 12s, 11s, or 10s, but in the 9s: 9215, 9230 VP in Chinese; I suppose due to depressed propagation rather than operation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6100, July 26 at 0558, RHC English is S9+10/20 but suptorted, and no signal on 2 x = 12200. 6000 is only S9 and also suptorted; 6145 S9 not distorted but undermodulated. 5040 off already. Something`s always wrong at RHC.

Feliz 26; Patria o Suerte, ¡Pensaremos! I am still awaiting photographic evidence that anyone has scrawled this, my contrarian motto on a surface anywhere inside Cuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760 >> // 15140, Sunday July 26 at 1501, weekly RHC  Esperanto opening; YL mispronounces Ameriko as Amériko; despite seeming fluency cannot escape her native Spanish accentuation for Espo`s invariable penultimate accent, so I don`t even stay tuned to hear her give the wrong schedule. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15825 & 13845, WWCRs are boosted by sporadic E, so I check 10m hambeacons, exact frequencies accepted, not measured, lookups in the WJ5O roster and QRZ.com, July 26:

28225.5-CW, July 26 at 1418, VVV DE W2DLL/B ... ending with K as if anyone should answer. Also listed on 28150 but this is:
``28.2255 W2DLL C BUFFALO, NEW YORK # 20W, DIPOLE  QTH & Power change 25 Sept 11/28 Feb 16``
``W2DLL USA flag USA, Dana L Laurie, Buffalo, NY 14210 USA``

28298-CW, July 26 at 1422, K5TLL/B, slow WPM and strong
``28.298 K5TLL C HATTIESBURG, MISSISSIPPI # 25W, VERTICAL New Freq 14 Dec 08``
``K5TLL USA flag, TERENCE L LOWERY, HATTIESBURG, MS 39402
Beacon station is a Uniden HR-2510, 25 watts ID-O-Matic keyer by http://www.HamGadgets.com ``

28276-CW, July 26 at 1423, VVV DE K - M/B, full call not copiable, but this is the only one that fits frequency, letters, area:
``28.276 K4FUM * LOGANVILLE, GEORGIA # 10W, VERTICAL (*synchronized on the min)``
``K4FUM USA flag, JERE T SANDIDGE, LOGANVILLE, GA 30052``

28264.3-CW, July 26 at 1446, VVV KD4AOZ/B, fast WPM and QRM from a slightly different pitch/frequency. Copied as AOG but one of us must have missed a dit:
``28.2643 KD4AOZ C WATKINSVILLE, GEORGIA # 10W, OMNI new 19 Jan 14``
``KD4AOZ USA flag, JEFFREY E CROWELL, WATKINSVILLE, GA 30677``

28290-CW, July 26 at 1459, AL DE WJ5O/B:
``28.2893 WJ5O C TROY ALABAMA # 2W VERTICAL New Frequency 25 Jan 14``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330, Sunday July 26 at 1351, WLCR via WBCQ-6 is in Spanish as scheduled before switch to English, S9+10/20. Maybe not off for maintenance today? 1917 JBA carrier vs local noise blob (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9605, July 26 at 1353, gospel huxter in English, S9+10/20. Aside from KBS relays at 01-02, WHRI on 9605 only this one hour per week, per EiBi, to Central America (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
