Glenn Hauser logs May 1, 2020

** ALASKA [and non]. 7355, May 1 at 1232, gospel music from KNLS English hour, QRM from pulse-jamming. When will stations ever learn never to go on a frequency which has ever been jammed by Cuba, at the same or any time? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** AUSTRIA. 15440, May 1 at 1420, JBA signal in uncertain language: listed as AWR in Urdu via Moosbrunn (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA [and non]. 332-MCW kHz, May 1 at 0601 UT, ND beacon QT, which is 1000 watts from Thunder Bay, Ont., tho I wasn`t quite sure whether it was QE; atop my nearby IC, 400 watts at Wichita - PicnIC, Kansas, usually audible by itself. Different pitches help to differentiate them. Tonight lightning storms are faraway around the Bahamas and scattered spots in western USA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 11620, May 1 at 1241, song and Japanese talk, S7-S4. It`s CRI via Xianyang site. I would have expected India on this frequency, scheduled Tibetan service jammed, but currently most AIR external services locked down (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA [and non]. 11825, May 1 at 1237, Firedrake jamming atop something in English, just clips amid Chinese translation on VOA via THAILAND this hour; adding up to S9+10/20. Seems there is more FD and less CNR1 jamming these days (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA [and non]. 9660, May 1 at 1244, echoing Chinese plus Firedrake, vs Radio Taiwan International. The echo presumably two CNR1 signals. Aoki now shows sites for some of these: Fuzhou.

9680, May 1 at 1245, echoing Chinese only here, CNR1 jamming via Kunming vs another RTI Chinese frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 7350, May 1 at 1251, RHC again here instead of 7340, not only MayDay but RHC anniversary: heartfelt renditions of ``The Internationale`` first in Spanish, then in Brasilian.

There are many different lyrix but in English I prefer Billy Bragg`s. Such idealism, yet ruined in application by Commies including Cubans:

Listen to and read three of them there.

Then testimonials to RHC, 1256 someone lauds from Sancti Spíritus, // 15230 et al.

However, Wolfgang Büschel reported a few minutes later: ``Every day, a different schedule of the Radio Habana shortwave organization, these days: At 1318 UT on May 1st, RHC Bejucal in Spanish on 7340 kHz (not 7350 as on April 29 and 30). 73 wb df5sx`` --- so they switched around 1300? Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** HONG KONG [non]. 9400, May 1 at 1248, one Chinese signal of S3-S5, Liangyou 1 Radio via FEBC PHILIPPINES; unlike yesterday at 1313 when there was a pileup of more Chinese, presumably jammers (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 251-MCW kHz, May 1 at 0607, ND beacon, AM, which is 100 watts at Amarillo TX (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 257-MCW kHz, May 1 at 0605 UT, NDB: FWC which is 25 watts from Fairfield, Wayne County; that`s between Mt Vernon and Mt Carmel in SE Illinois. I was tuned to 255-USB in another check for my nearby AWOL SW in Stillwater OK (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 326-MCW kHz, May 1 at 0602 UT, NDB MA which is 400 watts at MidlAnd, Texas. I was tuned to 324-USB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7212-LSB, May 1 at 0550, YL voice calling CQ CQ CQ over and over in presumed recording, each item thrice: K7VAP. QRZ.com shows: https://www.qrz.com/db/k7vap with cats and plane photos Piggott, Valerie A, K7VAP, Tacoma, WA 98409 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1540-, May 1 at 1208 UT, LAH against KXEL? from SSE/NNW off-frequency station I am sure is KGBC Galveston TX, as IDed several times before; but het is not always there, sometimes on-frequency; or off the air? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VATICAN [non]. 9610, May 1 at 1242, other-worldly song and religious Russian talk. This semihour only, it`s VR via USAGM, Tinang, PHILIPPINES, violating Separation of Church and State (In case you think I exaggerate, the USG should not be favoring any religion over another. If it`s OK to make a relay deal with the Catholix, any other ilk could expect/demand the same privilege! Why not Brother Scare via Greenville?!) (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1350+, May 1 at 1206 UT, somestation far enough off+frequency to make a LAH - low audible het, with dominant from NE, presumably KRNT Des Moines; but this one loops roughly SE/NW: two most likely culprits are KCOX Jasper TX and WWWL New Orleans LA, both with 5 kW day power. But 5+ years ago in mwoffsetts, KWWL was very slightly on the minus side, KCOX unknown (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1420+, May 1 at 1207 UT, someotherstation far enough off+frequency to make a LAH with other 1420s, also looping roughly SE/NW like 1350. Too many possibilities: closest KFYN Bonham TX; KBHS Hot Springs AR; KPEL Lafayette LA; WQBC Vicksburg MS. Maybe we can rule out KBHS which 1+ year ago was 3.5 Hz low (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
