Radio Center last broadcasts on 1485 khz

Radio Center will be on the air this March last time on their historical frequency AM 1485 before completely moving to NEW frequency AM 1602 from Riga, Latvia:
March 1st from 3-5 UTC (6-8 MST) with their special 27 Years Anniversary program & March 27 & 28th from 19:00- 20:59 UTC (22:00-23:59 MST) with very special programs for NRB (National Religious Broadcasters) Convention attendees.

Radio Center Moscow, a pioneer of Religious broadcasting in Russia, has been granted a license for operating a powerful AM transmitter in Riga, Latvia to deliver Christian programming in RUSSIAN language into every RUSSIAN community in Eastern Europe, including Russia proper--during a time when the Russian Government has restricted the rights of many Christians groups. Due to growing restrictions and governmental interference, Radio Center is moving from Moscow to Riga while keeping our radio studio in Moscow. Our NEW frequency on AM dial is 1602 kHz.

On February 2019 Russian lawmakers backed a bill aimed at isolating the country's Internet from the rest of the world to secure it in the event of a cyber attack or other threat. The creation of this «red button» that gives the State more ways of disconnecting the country from the global network could further isolate Russians from the rest of the world. As a result, only conventional radio waves can reach our listeners in Russia!

OUR MINISTRY NEEDS ARE:
NEW AM TRANSMITTER
NEW ANTENNA (a location in Latvia close to Russian State border)
STUDIO & BROADCAST EQUIPMENT
PRODUCTION COSTS
ELECTRICITY BILLS

We invite you to partner with us. Together we can make a difference in this world by preaching the Gospel through the airwaves to reach Russian-speaking people! Please contact us at www.radiocenter.net

RFA Korean back on air

I thought the Korean service of RFA was supposed to be off the air. I am hearing it loud and clear on 9985 at 2100-2130 on three SDRs located in Japan. Judging by the strength of the signal, I have to wonder if the transmission isn't coming from NHK. The other frequencies of 7485 and 9860 are dead, not even a carrier.

They have frequent IDs and the program was a special broadcast of the Trump-Kim Summit Meeting in Vietnam. There is no doubt it is RFA (Bill Harms, Elkridge, Maryland, 2133 UT Feb 27, DX LISTENING DIGEST) So did it continue past 2130?

RFA Korean was one of those services dispensed with on SW when NMI Saipan & Tinian sites were destroyed. The schedule *was* per page 500 of WRTH 2019, which flagged all the SW frequencies as not operational due to typhoon, and to be moved to other sites:

10-11 1566jej
15-17 9590s
15-19 1188seo 5885t 9985t
21-22 7485t 9860t 9985t

And nothing about this in the Updater.

Searching current Aoki has the same SW info all x-ed out for same reason:
10-11 1566
15-17 9590s
15-19 1188 9985t 5885t
21-22 9985t 7485t 9860t

EiBi has deleted all RFA Korean listings on SW but retains 1566 at 10-11 and 1188 at 15-17-19

IBB has not bothered to remove numerous TIN and SAI listings from the latest HFCC as of today, including the above which had been off the air since typhoon. In HFCC there is no distinxion between VOA and RFA.

There could well be more temporary RFA SW reactivations for the duration of the ``I love you`` summit.

VOA Korean is quite a different matter, which has continued mostly unscathed via Philippines or Thailand; the SW hours designed not to conflict with RFA, i.e. 12-15 & 19-21 on other frequencies (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Glenn Hauser logs February 27-28, 2019

** CUBA. 12140, Feb 27 at 1345, JBA carrier, so I try again to match trace of modulation to RHC and barely do so // 11950 as leapfrog fulcrum of 11760; rather than Quwait fundamental. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Also confirmed UT Thursday February 28 at 0000 on WRMI 7730, VG, but by 0015 recheck it`s dumped to music fill, same as last week when first discovered by Richard Lemke. Yes, WOR is now on the sked for half an hour. 0030 starts Wavescan with no problem. I miss checking next airing at 0100 on WRMI 7780. Next, not until:

** U S A. 5130.035, Feb 27 at 0734, surprised to find JBA carrier here with a trace of modulation; WBCQ running this transmitter on a frequency adjusted closer to nominal. ** U S A. 17775, Feb 27 at 1512 and 1705, no signal audible from KVOH, but Ray Robinson assures me it`s back on the air. Finally at 1926 I can hear it propagating with praise music in Spanish, S9 to S9+10 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 2940.133, Feb 27 at 0729, JBA carrier from suspected second harmonic such as Cali, which would make the fundamental about 1470.655. Or MWoffsets has WBCR, Alcoa TN on 1470.63; NRC AM Log says 77 watts at night. Perhaps a DXer in Maryville/Alcoa could confirm the offset and harmonic (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Glenn Hauser logs February 25-26, 2019

** CUBA. Re: ``12140, Feb 18 at 1237, JBA carrier as I check for possible leapfrog of both very strong 11760 over 11950 another 190 kHz beyond; 12140 is weaker than 12300 = 2 x 6150. Something`s always wrong at RHC. At this early hour, 15140 & 15230 are JBA carriers, while 13780.0 not way-off frequency today, has built up to good level, the OSOB, and no spurs on 13 or 15 MHz``

Altho I am of course partial to Cuban leapfrogs, as a JBA carrier, 12140 at this time could also have been fundamentally IBB Kuwait, 250 kW at 70 degrees, during the scheduled multi-hour Dari/Pashto Radio Azadi service (Glenn Hauser, Feb 25, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 15700, Feb 26 at 1448, CRI Plus relay is S9+30 but suptorted with modulation spikes only, continuing a slightly different wrongness from one day to the next (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1971, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN. 9690, Monday Feb 25 at 2309, REE`s Justin Coe ending some news about the Catalunya demonstration situation, before he can get back to some flamenco guitar music, his continuing tribute to Paco de Lucía, apparently on the fifth anniversary of his death. Ken Zichi has also noted how this service is mainly music, evidently according to Coe`s preferences, rather than an emphasis on news (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1971, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 4102.3, Feb 26 at 0730, the ``W`` beacon somewhere in the California desert. Sends that ID a few times a minute, but in between series of dits which signify wind speed on its anemometer, and other readings, battery voltage and temp. Steve McGreevy explains in the WOR iog how he located the thing almost 20 years ago; and that the `A` (only) beacon on 2097.3 we also hear is not in Quartzsite AZ, altho he does not know exactly where (Glenn Hauser, WORLD OF RADIO 1971, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5970, Feb 26 at 1456, open carrier of S9-S8 past 1500, apparently WEWN, despite daytime Spanish frequency 12050 already on too. Altho the schedule would imply a single transmitter switches between 5970 and 12050, Glen Tapley once explained to me that they axually use different transmitters for high and low bands (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 17775, Feb 26 at 1502, 1529, 1659, 1901, still no signal from KVOH, altho Ray Robinson of KVOH notified me at 2339 UT Feb 25, ``We're back! It was a lot more complex than it appeared originally, and multiple components had to be replaced. It also took a lot longer than we anticipated, but we're back. Testing now.`` I don`t know if he meant on the air yet at that unusual hour as I was not monitoring then (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

``Checking my overnight recording about one session a week, I find the first instance of Radio Oasis the morning of January 23 with solid KEXB ID's at TOH. Still finishing up the morning of December 29 and KEXB was still running programs from BizTalk.com overnight`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Re 1120, my log of KCRN, Wayne Heinen, Editor, NRC AM Radio Log replies Feb 24 on the nrc-am gg:

``As to Limon on 1120, only calls heard so far are old canned KLIM even though the CDBS lists them as KCRN now… 73``

Paul Walker, Laramie, WY also replies, as I had found 1120 // 1060: ``Just an FYI guys, Catholic Radio Network has been told 1120 is IDing improperly. It became KCRN in 12/2018 and still IDs as KLIM.

They had some kind of failure Saturday [Feb 23], leaving them with a dead carrier, then completely off for awhile. When they came back, they had a network-wide conga-line-style ID. Normally, KLIM/KCRN IDs by itself and its programming is usually separate from 1060 KRCN.   That 1060 usually runs the same feed as KEXS 1090 Kansas City and 1120 runs something else, but when 1120 came back on, it was running the same feed at KRCN 1060, at least temporarily`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1130, Feb 25 at 1926 UT, rock music means KLEY Wellington KS, 250 watts at daytime, is back on the air after missing for weeks if not months. Yes, 1932 local weather, and ``From the Wheat Capital of the World, The Wave 100.3 and 1130``. OK signal, no breaking up. Didn`t get it checked whether still on air next day.

As for slogan, Enid might dispute that, but how do you rate a Wheat Capital? Total grain elevator storage capacity, and whether full every harvest season? It seems that Enid has the third-largest capacity in the world; I bet Wellington can`t beat that, but it has made the most of the WC designation. Its county, Sumner, previously got official Kansas state designation as W.C., and it was just another step up for Wellington to the World? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1480, Feb 25 at 2322 UT, another check for Vietnamese on KBXD Dallas. Today it`s making a SAH of 96/minute or 1.6 Hz vs KQAM Wichita. YL is speaking, but the more I hear, the less certain am I that it be Vietnamese at this time; certainly a tonal SE Asian language, perhaps Khmer, which is sort of a mix between Viet and Thai/Lao as the geography would imply. Or maybe Viet with a peculiar accent; or a tribal dialect? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

WMLK license released

A real blessing came this week! On February 5, 2019 WMLK Radio received, from the FCC, the long awaited station operational license! Once again WMLK Radio will be able to legally broadcast from its station all over the world! Praise Almighty Yahweh!

"Also, the building of the new set continues. The building has been stopped in order to accommodate a US government project that takes priority over our order! Progress to that point was good! More to come! Thank you for your continued support! Yahweh Bless each one of you!"

New Weekly Music Show Thurs 0100-0200 on 5850

I wanted to let you know about the new weekly music show I've started. It is called "This Is A Music Show," and will air each week on Thursdays 0100-0200 UTC. The first broadcast went out last night via WRMI on 5850 kHz.

I must apologize right away as I believe it conflicts with one of your broadcasts, also on WRMI? Luckily, us listeners have a few different times to catch your show. :)

I've posted a recording of last night's show on soundcloud. It's actually two recordings, (one with an SDR + loop antenna, the other a Sony portable + dipole), with a bit of panning for an interesting new twist on AM Stereo. Reception at my QTH in Toronto was quite good last night:

https://soundcloud.com/thisisamusicshow/this-is-a-music-show-001-offair-2019-02-20

I hope you'll check it out if you have a moment.

Best regards, (Your Host, 0315 UT Fri Feb 22, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

As of 0414 UT Feb 26, WRMI sked grid still has a blank space on System F, red, 0100-0200 UT Thu (and Wed and Sat) on 5850 (gh)

** CHINA [and non]. 9825, Feb 24 at 1417, CCCCCCI, i.e. Chinese Communist Chinese language co-channel interference, CNR1 jamming of VOA Mandarin via Tinang, PHILIPPINES. Also checked Feb 25 at 1459 with LAH until CNR1 off at 1500* leaving VOA ``Washington DC`` sign-off in the clear. One of them at least 20 Hz off-frequency, likely VOA, but VOA is gone before I can measure it (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6000 S9+10 but JBM, 6165 a bit more mod, 6100 a bit more than that but still under-, only 6060 VG signal and modulation, Feb 25 at 0638 check of RHC English. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOUTH AFRICA. See USA: WRMI

** U S A. 9955, Mon Feb 25 at 1421 as I tune in WRMI, during AWR `Wavescan` Jeff White is making a brief update to his report two weeks ago from HFCC Tunis that Sentech might be closing down its Meyerton SOUTH AFRICA, SW transmitter site at Marchend --- now it`s confirmed! As of March 31, end of B-18 season. Says BBCWS relays will be moved to MGLOB MADAGASCAR; Channel Africa might continue on internet only.

Responses to this already: Bill Bingham says to the WOR iog:

``I wouldn't be surprised to see it return in the future, probably in a new guise, and as DRM only. That would seem to fit with our government's apparent fascination with all things digital. Either that, or one hand at Sentech doesn't know what the other hand is doing. As of October 2018 it seemed that shortwave was here for years to come:

** U S A. 17775, Monday Feb 25 at 1515, still no signal from KVOH; OSOB is a JBA carrier on 17780 from BBC Ascension. Ditto both at 1734 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Re my previous reports of Vietnamese from KBXD, Stephen Luce, Houston replied Feb 22: ``Glenn, regarding Vietnamese on 1480: KLVL in the Houston market is currently running a Spanish language religious format, mostly music, so not them. This "brokered time" station has had several different programmers with short-lived formats recently. KBXD in DFW can really get out during critical hours; it often severely bothers KLVL at my NW Harris County QTH.``

1480, Feb 25 at 1348 UT, I`m rechecking for Vietnamese from KBXD, but never hear any; in fact, suspect KBXD Dallas is off. KQAM The Big Talker, Wichita is dominant so anything else is fighting it when nulled as much as possible. First I`m getting a gospel huxter in English (San Antonio or Memphis?); at 1400 while KQAM is in local news, something else in Spanish, same station switched or different? Mention AC 713, so that`s Houston, and 1402 Radio Vida slogan, which is not listed for KLVL Pasadena. Now there is a SAH of 2 Hz, rather than 0.75 Hz I measured Feb 15 between KQAM and KBXD. But this could still be KBXD varying slightly in frequency and varying greatly in programmation.

There is a Radio Vida in Dallas, but website has no info on a frequency or callsign! http://radiovidadallas.com/ altho stereo praise music in Spanish autolaunches. And it seems the Radio Vida in Houston is on 1380. This is all very confusing. There are other 1480s in TN, KS, CO and TX which could be involved in this mixture; but at least the NM one is gone.

At 1407, KQAM starts ``hour 3 of Voice of Reason`` [sic] on this ``conservative talk`` station, which is also on FM, and live on KCTT-TV, I thought he said, but the closest call to that of a real TV station in Wichita is low-power KCTU (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 4260, Feb 25 at 1358 UT, JBA talk, still there with R75 preamps off so think it`s a real signal, not overload, and most likely a 3rd harmonic of something on 1420. But at hourtop I`m more concerned with the mixture on 1480. At 1411, 4260 ruled out mix with strongest locals on 960 & 1390, but too weak to be sure when I compare to 1640 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Frequency is just around 6930 kHz CW. The msg. is transmitted in 10 WPM.  This beacon will be on and off in the same sched the next weeks. In a press release, TWR says this first broadcast reached across “the Strait of Gibraltar to Span, where Protestants were a vanishingly small minority” facing governmental bans on evangelism and even discrimination.
Then, when Morocco gained its independence and Tangier was reunited with the country, TWR was asked to leave. The organization moved to Monte Carlo and shared a facility with Radio Monte Carlo. During the day, Radio Monte Carlo when to work, and at night TWR took over. It was here where TWR really began to have a global influence.
Ten years after the first broadcast, TWR was reaching most of Europe and expanding further into the world. Through radio, the ministry slipped into areas no Christian worker could, like the Iron Curtain. Radio has a way of providing information regardless of governmental regulations. It has been key in TWR sharing God’s Word across the globe, expanding to the ends of the earth.

TWR Today

“We’re still in broadcast. We have 21 transmitting locations around the globe, high power transmitters of anywhere from 200,000 to 500,000 to a million wats. We talk [to] a potential listening audience on the air of 4.2 billion people each and every day. Then globally, digitally, we talk to about 40,000-50,000 people on our app, TWR 360, every day,” President and CEO of TWR, Lauren Libby says.
TWR broadcasts in 230 languages in 190 countries with an average audience age of 16 to 18-year-olds and up. This means the organization is reaching every country on this planet apart from six. Plus, it’s reaching multiple generations through cross-platform promoting via radio, social media, print, digital media, apps, and more.

Experiencing God

Even with the vast reach TWR has today, what continues to lead the ministry to say, “this is God” is not the number of people reached, but the individual stories of these people.
“I was with a young couple in Northern Syria about a year and a half ago who had just come into a relationship with Jesus Christ as a result of listening on the radio and listening to some children’s drama that had been distributed into the refugee camps. And then you begin to look at others…it’s an individual life, one at a time,” Libby says.
“People don’t come into the Kingdom in groups. They come in one at a time and they’re affected and our goal’s to help them meet the closest friend they’ve ever had, when they finally meet Jesus face to face.”
Libby says as technology shifts and morphs, the ministry is trying to adjust, too. For example, TWR is experimenting in what it could look like to broadcast via short-wave or medium-wave via digital means transmitting into a receiver. Plus, as technology shifts, more opportunities tend to open.

Get Involved

However, TWR’s 65-year journey has not been traveled alone. Many people have come alongside this work over the years.
“We’d just like to say thank you to everyone who’s co-labored with TWR with your time, talent, and treasure for the last 65 years. From one little tiny radio station in Tangier to touching 4.2 billion people every day. That is an absolute miracle and God has used hundreds of thousands of people to be involved in making that happen,” Libby says.
“It hasn’t happened because of one person, two people, it’s been a group effort of the body of Christ and we’re so grateful to everyone who’s had a part in that.”
Pray for TWR’s continued ability to reach people with the good news of Jesus Christ. Pray TWR’s work helps disciple and grow believers across the world, that the ministry’s content would impact hearts and glorify God.

----------

Some clarification about TWR Tangier era; In the 1950's there were three commercial broadcast stations licensed by the International Zone of Tangier. Those were (brand names) Radio Africa, Radio Tanger and Pan American Radio. TWR (Voice of Tangier then) "hired airtime" from Radio Tanger. The fourth broadcaster was VOA. Morocco gained independence in 1956 and had then also control of Tangier. The existing broadcasters were given time to operate until the end of 1959. So, Voice of Tangier (TWR) stopped broadcasting from Tangier in the end of 1959. As we all know, VOA was of course granted permission to continue after that 1959 deadline.

Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity
18 - 24 February 2019

Solar activity was very low. A DSF centered near N19W38 was observed
lifting off after 23/2332 UTC. A subsequent CME signature was first
observed in LASCO C2 imagery at 24/0125 UTC. However, after
forecaster analysis and WSA/Enlil modeling, the CME was determined
to be off the Sun-Earth line.

No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit reached
moderate levels on 18-20 Feb. Normal levels were observed during the
rest of the summary period.

Geomagnetic field activity reached active levels on 21 Feb due to CH
HSS influences. The remainder of the period was at mostly quiet
levels.

Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity
25 February - 23 March 2019

Solar activity is expected to remain very low for the forecast
period.

No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is
expected to be at moderate to high levels on 25 Feb - 10 Mar, and 13
Mar due to recurrent CH HSS activity. Normal to moderate levels are
expected for the remainder of the outlook period.

Geomagnetic field activity is expected to be at G1 (Minor) storm
levels on 27-28 Feb due to recurrent CH HSS activity. The remainder
of the period is expected to be mostly quiet to unsettled.

State bid to reach out to indian fishers at sea through AM transmission

After the introduction of satellite phones, now the state government is exploring the possibility of reaching out to fishermen through the medium wave transmission of the All India Radio.

The state disaster management authority in association with the Coast Guard and AIR conducted a feasibility survey in the sea to check whether the medium wave signal of AIR is available up to 200 nautical miles in the sea from the coastline.

“Since the survey found the medium wave transmission is available in the sea, the state government has sought the Centre’s permission to use the facility for reaching out to fishermen in order to provide regular update meant for fishermen, P H Kurian, former additional chief secretary (Revenue), told Express.

“However, the Centre is yet to respond to the request of the state,” he said.

According to a senior officer in the AIR, the AIR has four medium wave transmission centres in Thiruvananthapuram (20 kw), Alappuzha (200 kw), Thrissur (100 kw) and Kozhikode (100 kw) in the state apart from a transmission centre at Lakshadweep (10 kw). These medium wave transmission centres can together cover the entire coastline and a distance up to 200 nautical miles in the sea from the coastline in radial distance.

The AIR has also FM transmission centres at Kannur, Kozhikode, Manjeri, Devikulam, Kochi (two stations) Thiruvananthapuram apart from 17 private FM stations in the state.

While comparing with the medium wave transmission centres, the reach of the FM stations is limited to 60 to 70 km in normal circumstances.

Whereas, the medium wave signals can travel long distance in the sea even two-fold or three-fold, when compared to land, without any disturbance.

In the normal circumstances, the AM stations which begin transmission by 5.50 am will continue till 11.10 pm. However, during the August flood, the AIR conducted 24-hour transmission to provide information to the people in the flood-affected areas.

Earlier, the state government had distributed navigation gadget Navic and satellite phones to fishermen in order to better equip them at sea.

Selected 1,000 fishermen who venture into sea beyond 36 nautical miles would be given the sat phones in the first phase, in association with BSNL which had agreed to provide the phones at a rate of Rs 94,261 per piece.  (www.newindianexpress.com)

Glenn Hauser logs February 23-24, 2019

** CUBA [and non]. 11860, Sunday Feb 24 at 1409, pulse jamming against weak presumed Republic of Yemen clandestine via Saudi Arabia, rather than Radio Martí which has never operated 11860 beyond Monday-Friday. Something`s always wrong at DCJC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 15700, Feb 24 at 1405, CRI Plus relay is suptorted today, while 15140 & 15230 RHC are overmodulated/distorted, but no spurs found on 15 or 13 MHz bands. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 9640, Feb 24 at 1448, RHC apparently pre-empted `En Contacto` --- instead of Arnie & Marta we hear a discussion of Feb 24 as a big day for ratifying the new Cuban constitution, and also about ``solidarity`` with Venezuela (meaning the Maduro dictatorship, not the people of V.) Such also continues past 1450 instead of the medical show; will they be back next Sunday? Something`s always wrong at RHC.

Recent spam from Diario de Cuba, allegedly datelined Habana, with contrary views:

** NORTH AMERICA. 4015-USB, Feb 24 at 0125, music and immediate ID break as Wolverine Radio, then blues, S9, found here after nothing on 6.9 MHz band. Many reports here https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,51341.0.html that it had just QSYed from 6950 with song titles having a day of the week in them, as also displayed in SSTV signpost (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 12035.7, Feb 24 at 1406, VOT music and English talk is only S2-S5 with flutter, notably inferior to Turkish on 11815.0, tho HFCC registrations indicate should be vice versa: 500 kW on 12035, 250 kW on 11815, and azimuths USward only 5 degrees apart (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1970 monitoring: confirmed Saturday February 23 at 2215 the 2200 on WRMI 9955, S5-S9.

Also confirmed UT Sun Feb 24 starting at 0427 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, Wentzville MO, as usual editing out as much of the musical theme opening as possible; S9+30 and not much QRhAM during the 160m contest. Earlier check at 0144 had WD5K calling CQ contest right on 1860-LSB. That`s Thomas C. Johnson in Dallas. Next:

** U S A. 4980, Feb 24 at 0129, Spanish as WRMI on long past normal 2400*, seems religious but not hearing enough to decide if SMTV segment; and off the air at 0132 recheck. Meanwhile 5010 WRMI was already off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9395, Feb 24 at 0129, S9 of WRMI dead air, 0130 Bob Biermann plugs his `YWS` without any specific times or frequencies (too many?), 0131 into Oldies instead of defunct IBC Radio as still on skedgrid.

7780, Feb 24 at 0131, this WRMI is playing Mideast music, so World Music fill? Certainly not `Worship in your Home` as still on skedgrid.

While checking the above at 1642 Feb 24, the WRMI skedgrid has Jeff White logged in as well as three anonymous creatures: Loris, Unicorn, and Dumbo Octopus (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1430, Feb 24 at 0500 UT, short-notice but widely-publicized DX test prompted by engineering work at WION, Ionia MI is supposed to start now but nothing noted in first biminute, just huge pileup of roughly equal signals, nothing readable; length of test unknown, but I decide to recheck later:

At 0558 UT now I hear a 1 kHz tone; or could it be a JBA TA carrier? Rather too late for Djibouti, Ukraine is inactive; leaving only some very/low powers in UK, Greece and Italy. I don`t have a chance to detect whether it`s on 1431 only as in DX, or 1431 & 1429 as in modulation from a domestic. I keep listening intently for almost the next hour on the DX-398 aimed NE/SW, whence the tone peaks as if from WION. At 0600 there is a pause and then a lower-pitched tone, one half kHz, or 440? 0605 another tone audible, and 0608 peak stronger, stops about 0613. If there had been a Morse code ID during this span, probably could have copied it. Todd Skaine says WION runs a Morse code ID at hourtop even during normal programming. Otherwise: occasionally rising slightly above the din is TexMexmx, or maybe a real Mexican like at 0627. At 0634, ad for Schlotzky`s (?) restaurant in Belleville, i.e. KZQZ St Louis as in following jingle --- that`s the station I mainly expected to hear in the way of WION, altho KZQZ night pattern is unfavorable thisaway. No more tones heard until 0650. But what I heard earlier correlates with other DX monitors (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
