** CUBA. 11760, Sunday Nov 19 at 1558, RHC wrapping up Spanish but mentions only
the Habana FM frequency, 102.5. Modulation is somewhat suptorted. 1600 switch to
weekly Esperanto, and audio improves, especially during their opening song. Sked
announced is still: 1600 on 11760, 2230 on 17730, and 0700 on 6000. Only the
first one is still correct, the 2230 maybe 2330 or 0030? on 15730 which
hesitates to propagate? But unconfirmed last week, and there could be a fourth
broadcast as per some schedule versions; the 0700 UT Sunday is supposed to be
delayed until 0800 because of another hour of English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX

** NEWFOUNDLAND [and non]. 5616-USB, Nov 19 at 0708,
Gander Radio in quick contacts with several aircraft, for testing selcalls or
position reports: El Al 026, American 718, AirTrans 378; referring the last to
contact next Santa Maria (Azores) on 5598, or 3016 secondary. Each craft also
heard, but generally weaker. It seems each selcall is associated with a fonetik
4-letter ``callsign``. 5598-USB also active with ATC, selcall tones (Glenn

** OKLAHOMA. RF 39, Nov 19 at 1356 UT,
NO SIGNAL from KWTV OKC. Every Sunday I bring it up to record `CBS Sunday
Morning`, but I have to revert to cable for it. I scan the RF channels and find
everything else OK, including eveb some tropo bringing in RF 42, KBZC-LD from
OKC. Maybe KWTV absence has something to do with implementing its repack QSY to
RF 25? Not there yet. They will certainly have to replace or modify the antenna,
probably requiring some downtime. I leave a TV tuned to RF 39 and by 1505 UT
notice that KWTV is back on. No courtesy announcement crawler ever seen about
this on KWTV via cable (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S
A. 5129.822, Nov 19 at 0701, S9+10 of dead air. Obviously it is WBCQ transmitter
near offset earlier while modulating, perhaps testing. John Carver,
mid-North-Indiana, sent this report on it at 0242: ``TimTron Worldwide live on
5130 at 0 hours. Said he was at the main studio in Monticello. Had come up today
to tinker with 5130 transmitter and see if he could improve the signal. First
hour was great. Signal was 20 over and loud and clear. During second hour of
TimTron, signal went into the toilet, dropped to S7 and the noise came up over
everything and made it impossible to copy. At 0155 signal started to fight its
way up again and by 0205 was hitting S9 on the upswing. Lumpy Gravy was in
progress by then. Signal still dipping below S9 at times but also surging up to
10 over at times and the audio is mostly over the noise now and so able to copy
the program`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1640, Nov
19 at 0659 UT, my local KZLS is broken up by almost as strong CCI from WTNI with
ESPN, Biloxi MS, full ID also for W278CE on 103.5, and 1640thechamp.com Once
again I strongly suspect WTNI is running 10 kW day power at night, while KZLS is
on night power of 1 kW. This is without even nulling KZLS, but on the E-W
longwire.
BTW, European and Downunder DXers hardly ever report hearing
KZLS, but lots of WTNI and other US X-banders; perhaps because of its direxional
NNW/SSE pattern to ``serve`` OKC as well as Enid (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, DX

** YEMEN [non]. 11860, Nov 19 at 1529, Republic of Yemen Radio in Qur`an solo by
OM (what else?), going on for some time, still at 1540. Was this for vespers?
No, gaisma.com says sunset at Sana`a was an hour earlier, 1430 UT, and about the
earliest it ever gets during the year. Good signal S9+10/S7, considerably weaker
by 1600. And 11745 Al-Azm, another Sa`udi service for its military around Yemen,
is much weaker at 1530 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
