Unique Radio will be on WINB

** AUSTRALIA [non]. Unique Radio via web and also WINB 9265 Thursday from August 4th 2016

Hi Glenn, Just letting you know the latest from Unique Radio. Still off air on 3210 kHz whilst we wait for approval from ACMA to transmit from a new site in Gunnedah NSW.

We have however gained approval for 1647 kHz from Tamworth New South Wales with a maximum of 400 watts vertically. An antenna has been ordered from the United States and we're still deliberating on the transmitter, at this stage.

We are still streaming programming however via http://www.uniqueradio.info

Additionally we will be commencing a new program from WINB Red Lion Pennsylvania USA on Thursdays (From August 4th 2016) at 11 pm (Eastern) (0300-0400 UT [Fridays, then]) called Unique radio with shortwave chit chat, mailbag segment and requests. Our main music focus will be oldies and listener interaction.

We are asking any interested listeners to send us an email telling us how they got into shortwave radio, anything worth noting on their location, equipment and any songs they might like to hear and reception reports to manager@uniqueradio.info

The show will be hosted by Aussie Tim each Thursday night on 9265 kHz over WINB, the USA's first commercial shortwave broadcaster.

If you could pass this on, Glenn, that would be appreciated greatly and any news about world of radio would also be greatly welcomed. Thanks, Glenn, best regards (Aussie Tim (Gaynor), July 19, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Glenn Hauser logs July 30-31, 2016

** ALBANIA. Correxion: in previous report I should have written 9855- as usual instead of ``9854-``: 9855-, July 29 at 0138, R. Tirana is just humroar at S7.

9855-, July 31 at 0129, R. Tirana IS is perceptible atop the humroar, but only S4 and too much self-QRM to try to listen to the programming after 0130 sign-on (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 6180, July 31 at 0059, RNA 6180 is still off like last night, and also checked an hour later (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 11815, July 31 at 0110, R. Brasil Central playing Lara`s Theme, one of my favorites, a hopeless romantic. Only S3, 0111 interjecting ID and into a vocal song (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 15190.05, July 31 at 0155, JBA carrier, presumably R. Inconfidência as usual off plus; checking since Carlos Gonçalves, Portugal said he had not been hearing it July 21-27, nor had I noticed it (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 9530, July 31 at 0123, pulse jamming against JBA carrier. Another theory of why this is being jammed: the DentroCuban Jamming Command detected some station talking about Cuba on 9530, and figured it must be opposition, rather than second harmonic of their own Radio Progreso, which indeed is now active on 4765 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6165, July 31 at 0140, RHC English is S9+30 but just barely modulated, while // 6000 is S9+40 with good modulation for a change, finishing some Tracy Chapman music (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 9319 approx., July 31 at 0105, spurblob from R. Cairo centred about here, distinct from fundamental spurblob on 9315 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MOROCCO. 9575, July 31 at 0122, JBA carrier, presumed Médi 1. Checking this since Ivo Ivanov reported it was missing July 25 at 0900, but this hour squeezed between CRI Albania and CRI Cuba is about the worst time to hear Nador. Aoki shows the only other 9575 stations anywhen are Chi*Com jamming AIR Tibetan at 1215-1330 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NETHERLANDS [non]. 9925, July 31 at 0105, no signal from The Mighty KBC --- I think I ran across it before 0100 and was planning on coming back, but they must have resumed a one-hour broadcast via Germany, at least this week (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6930.0-USB, July 31 at 0135, S9+20, song ``I`m Free``; probably Wolverine Radio, confirmed as such at 0201 ID, ``Wolverine Radio-radio-radio-radio`` and into SSTV warbleeps, presumably about to close down (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, July 31 at 0058, JBA carrier from R. Chaski. Standing by for autocutoff as it occurs about when expected: 0102:32*, or 33 seconds later than 0101:59* on July 26, averaging 6.6 later per (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SRI LANKA. 11905, July 31 at 0115, JBA carrier from SLBC, enough to detect the mis-timesignal ending right on mis-time at 0115:17 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** UGANDA [non]. 15240-, Sat July 30 at 1712 tune-in to good signal, WWRB carriage of Radio Munansi, it`s in English! YL with news about Uganda, until 1717 to African music. Next check at 1826, English again, American rather than African accented, editorial about how Rwanda and Uganda have been looting mineral resources of eastern Congo (DR); and how the Rwandan genocide of 1994 was inferior to that in the Congo, yet we don`t hear about that. Outro as ``for Black Agenda Radio, I`m Glen(n?) Ford``; 1835 back to Luganda(?) announcement (one also interrupted the editorial), and music, more Luganda talk. Off after 1900 as usual. Here`s about B.A.R. = Glen [sic] Ford:
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1836 monitoring: confirmed at 2252 the 2230 UT Saturday July 30 broadcast on WBCQ, 9330.0-CUSB, fair-good. Not confirmed UT Sunday July 31 at 0330 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, Wentzville MO --- no carrier detected, suspected unusually off, as even with hi summer storm noise level I can normally at least tell it`s there. Next:
Sun 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Mon 0030   WRMI 7730 to WNW
Mon 0300v  WBCQ 5130v Area 51 to WSW
Mon 0330   WRMI 9955 to SSE
Mon 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Tue 1100   WRMI 9955 to SSE
Tue 2130   WRMI 15770 to NE
Tue 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Wed 1315.5 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Wed 2100   WBCQ 7490v to WSW
Wed 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 3247.6v, July 31 at 0101, JBA carrier varying slightly, and nothing closer to 3250, so maybe it`s WBCQ if 90m transmitter is on this Saturday night. Recheck at 0146, now it`s 3249.1v --- I fear it`s a birdie in the NRD-545.

Next event is my streetlite auto-sign-on at *0148 with an RF burst but not enough to be heard vs the storm noise; clear sky at sunset 0138* (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 11580, UT Sunday July 31 at 11580, this 44 degree beam manages an S9+15 here, sufficient but not super. A lady is singing a hymn about ``I`m praying for you`` accompanying self on piano --- sure sounds like Martha Garvin of `Musical Memories` as heard on WWCR et al., (WINB 9265 sked: UT Monday 0030) but didn`t think she`s on WRMI. Instead of chatter and another such tune, no announcements and following hymns are by an OM, a duet, and no outro before 0129:30 WRMI ID. Later checking WRMI sked, it`s merely `Hymns` for that quarter-hour, followed by `Wavescan`, but really at 0130 we hear:

Radio Northern Ireland, as I believe has been publicized elsewhere. Starts with `Lincolnshire Poacher` theme, very informal talk by host about enjoying Radio Amigo International special via Armenia on 11850; surprised to get a QSL from Radio Tirana, as the ``Internationale` is playing in background. Says he will do more talking than usual tonight, but then plays hard rock music; 0139 pretend ``QRM`` from a Spanish number station recording, more rock until 0152 another pretend QRM problem, recording of a woman screaming and 8-note chime IS repeated, from some other spy station? 0154 SSTV, and a bit more music (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 12105, July 31 at 0059, WTWW-3 is wrapping up Wrussian, but at 0106 recheck merely dead air at S9+40, so I take the opportunity to measure it like 12104.97 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7505v, July 31 at 0100 sharp, WRNO is not on, but next check at 0126, it is at S9+40 during Mawire sermon. Frequency keeps fluxuating upward as I try to measure it, 7504.86 to 7504.88 to 7504.93 to 7504.95 to 7504.97 within the next couple minutes (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1330.25 & 1350.15, July 31 at 0055 UT, JBA carriers hetting 1330 & 1350 stations, approx. measurements implying the center fundamental frequency would be 1340.20, but I don`t hear anything there separable from the 1340.0 pileup. This early, almost an hour before sunset, implies it`s east of here rather than west, axis already DF`ed (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6946.6, July 31 at 0134, the open carrier has now come to life sending fast RTTY. Would someone with RTTY capability copy and ID it? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Glenn Hauser logs July 29-30, 2016

** ALBANIA. 9854-, July 29 at 0138, R. Tirana is just humroar at S7. Also noted in the DXLD yg by Stephen C Wood, Harwich, Mass. on his Perseus SDR and 25 x 50 terminated superloop antenna: ``9855 - R. Tiranë, Shijak, 0130 July 29, 2016 - Completely distorted audio. Nothing intelligible to be heard except the loud buzzing noise at S9 + levels``.

9855-, July 30 at 0124, R. Tirana is VP, only S2 vs S6 noise level on the ALA-330, but poor, S6 vs S7 on the N/S internal wire. I can make out the IS but there is still hum beneath it, and usual hard to copy once talk start at 0130 (Glenn Hauser, oK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** AUSTRALIA. 12085, July 29 at 1334, R. Australia is OFF this frequency, but still on S4 12065 and S9+20 9580 during music. I didn`t think to check the `day` frequencies, but Ron Howard reported earlier:

``RA anomaly on July 29. *Not* broadcasting on 12085, but instead was on 15240; noted 0926 and subsequent checking; // to the normal 9580 (good) and 12065 (fair); all audio good; after 1000 Tok Pisin/Pidgin``

Wolfgang Büschel replied, ``Maybe could be to use TX-A at Shepparton on single 15240 kHz antenna connection? instead of TX-D, in order to replace for repair work on the faulty audio 9580 / 17840 kHz unit`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 6180, July 30 at 0204, RNA is OFF, so is it instead blobbing away around 6205 like last time? No, not found anywhere between 5800 and 6300 kHz; // 11780 seems to be nominal, no spurs either (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. 2749-USB, July 30 at 0243 UT, YL robot in English, really unreadable at maybe S8 vs storm noise level of S9+20, no doubt Canadian Coast Guard marine weather, as scheduled: ``MCTS Halifax / VCS - Broadcasts, 0240, Sambro site, 2749-J3E, Radiotelephony --- Technical marine synopsis, forecasts and wave height forecasts for marine areas: 201 to 214. Notices to Shipping in South Coast Nova Scotia area. Notices to Shipping revising the position of every reported offshore exploration and exploitation vessel`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 9315.046, July 29 at 0048, R. Cairo mainly hum but some talk, presumably Spanish, but no spurs, just when I wanted to hear one blasting Blalock on 9330. This fundamental not usually that far off-frequency.

9330.4 approx., July 30 at 0237, weak spur with same sound as on much stronger fundamental 9315 instead of English modulation from R. Cairo; then I find there is a blob of same between 9319 and 9327. These come and go (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GREECE. 9420, July 29 at 0052, VOG S9+10 playing Dylan`s original ``Blowin` in the Wind``, not exactly expected from Athens, but a nice touch. 0055 on to a bit of a Greek tune, before 0056 IS & ID in Greek, more music. Also on // 9935 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1836 monitoring: confirmed Friday July 29 at 2130.5 on WRMI 13695, good. I missed checking the next airing, but Wolfgang Büschel got it: ``Quick log in 2330 to 0115 UT July 29 / 30, 9329.921, WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW, S=7 in Germany Europe, 2336 UT GH WoRadio program, "DRM mode local transmitter Berlin item ..."``. ** U S A. 7489.97, UT Saturday July 30 at 0133, only catch the end of Allan Weiner Worldwide on WBCQ as I am mainly listening to The First Night of the Proms from BBC Radio 3, via Symphonycast, via 90.1 KUCO in $tereo. He`s reading mail and someone is hearing him on all three frequencies. Here, 5129.9 is far too noisy, and I can barely hear 3250.3 approx., so getting closer to the nominal than last week. 0135 benedixion, and after further comments, 0140 WBCQ jingles and over to Brother Scare (Glenn Hauser, oK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7504.89, July 30 at 0153, WRNO is on tonight with country gospel music, and during the less than a minute I listen, frequency is stable; however, Wolfgang Büschel reported earlier in the hour: ``7504.923, WRNO,  E x t r e m e  UNSTABLE frequency, hopping/moving continuously some 100 to 120 Hertz around up and down, 7505.064 kHz at 0109 UT on July 30, S=9+30dB -33dBm!!`` (Glenn Hauser, oK, DX LISTNING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5085, July 29 at 0538 check, WTWW-2 is still off again.
9930, July 29 at 1810 check, WTWW-2- is still off here too, and so is 12105, WTWW-3, leaving only 9475, WTWW-1 with PPPP (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 820, 830, 840, 850, 870, 1200, July 29 until 0327 UT, I check part of the MW band just as Hillary is finishing her acceptance speech, and surprised to find in the 800s at least, she`s live on multiple stations, even WBAP! WCCO, WHAS, KOA, WWL; and WOAI, among certainly others (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1330+ & 1350-, July 30 at 0244 UT, can`t hear any matching spurblobs from some 1340 station, and haven`t been checking for them nightly, but Randy Stewart in Springfield MO reminds me the suspect 1340 there is now KICK, ex-KADI, and could be the source (Glenn Hauser, oK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13560.33-CW, approx., July 30 at 0145, pipper very poor signal but running at the rate of 44 per minute. Last time it was 80/minute on a slightly different frequency. Whenever I do hear it, the rate is quite steady. So are these all the same transmitter, or different ones, and what`s the significance? (Glenn Hauser, oK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

VOA Radiogram, 30-31 July 2016: More fun (or frustration) with html via shortwave

Last weekend’s experiment with the transmission of an html-formatted VOA News story resulted in many successful decodes, but also several failures. The failures were mainly due to the base64 compression of the transmitted file, which requires all of the received characters to be received correctly. On shortwave, as we know, perfection is often elusive.
This weekend, we will transmit another html-formatted VOA News story. This time we will use Flwrap, another Fldigi add-on program. See details and instructions here:http://voaradiogram.net/post/148147415237/experimenting-with-web-pages-via-shortwave .
Because Flwrap does not require the html to be compressed, if the checksum fails, you have a Plan B: Copy the text in the Fldigi from through , paste it to a text editor (like Notepad), save it as an .html file, and open it in a browser.
Here is the lineup for VOA Radiogram, program 174, 30-31 July 2016, all in MFSK32 centered on 1500 Hz:
   1:31  Program preview
2:41  Great Red Spot may heat Jupiter’s atmosphere*
   8:31  High-speed travel in near-vacuum tube*
12:44  Strange purple orb in Pacific Ocean**
18:43  Three images
26:08  Closing announcements*
* with image
** formatted for Flwrap
Please send reception reports to radiogram@voanews.com .

Radio Verdad Transmundial suspended

** GUATEMALA.

Rubén Guillermo Margenet (July 18, via Dr Madrid with cc of his reply and further correspondence: via DXLD)

Apreciado buen amigo, Don Rubén Guillermo Margenet, Rosario, Argentina:

Abrazo (Mario, Enviado desde mi Samsung Mobile de Claro [another reply via the cc list, DXLD)

GH`s translation of parts of the above, referring to the still magical and unexplained ``worldwide broadcasts`` on SW without the use of relay SW transmitters, very near to 4055 kHz. We tried to find out about this earlier this year, but Dr Madrid admits he does not understand this new technology.

``I want to inform you how things are going for us at Radio Truth:
On May 9, 2016, we stopped publishing new archives at Radio Truth TV, because the motherboard was severely damaged.

On May 15, 2016, we stopped transmitting on Internet via mixlr, first because accidentally, we lost the license. We returned to buy another license, but we have had serious difficulties with the computer that transmits it.

On the same date, May 15, 2016, we stopped broadcasting via Radio Truth Worldwide, by which we had been reaching almost the entire world with great power. This applicatioin was suspended because it depends on our Interent transmissions via mixlr.

Now, we are hoping that very soon we shall return to the air via Internet with mixlr and with Radio Truth Worldwide. Afterwards we hope to publish new Radio Truth TV archives. These have been very difficult days due to our seriously low financial capability. I shall thank you for your prayers. May God bless you.``

Further translation of another reply above by gh:

``I forgot to inform you that as soon as we get back on Internet via mixlr, we shall also go on the air via Radio Truth Worldwide, which transmits via an application of Short Wave Alliance Euro-USA, and is heard with great strength in almost the entire world. Short Wave Alliance Euro-USA is a new scientific experiment, which is giving good results. Lamentably, upon suspending our Internet broadcasts, Short Wave Alliance Euro-USA was also suspended automatically, because they take our signal from Internet. For RVWW, I previously received excellent reports from USA, Japan and Bolivia. Radio Verdad Transmundial is the name we have given to this new, potent shortwave application.``

If one searches Google on that exact name, ``Short Wave Alliance Euro-USA``, the ONLY hits one gets are previous references to it from Dr Madrid as quoted by me and a few other DX sources! This reinforces my strong suspicion that it is all a scam. How can such an organization somehow using Internet to relay on shortwave have no presence whatsoever itself on the web? I assume the only reason Dr Madrid cannot come to the same conclusion is that he is a man of faith. As far as I can tell, no ``scientific`` proof exists that the reception reports he got were true SW pickups and/or not really direct from TGAV itself. Mixlr however is a real thing, apparently legitimate (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1836, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Glenn Hauser logs July 28, 2016

** AUSTRALIA. 9580, July 28 at 1245, RA during ABC TV news soundtrack relay is back in whack after distorted modulation 24 hours earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6165, July 28 at 0544, RHC English is just barely modulated during `Chariots of Fire` theme, while 6100 is OFF, 6060 is OK, and 6000 is very undermodulated but more so than 6165. Most RHC transmitters are now either over- or under-modulated. Can`t they even them out?

13740, July 28 at 2102 I happen to hit this RHC frequency as the tarde frequency announcement is starting, with 17730! Then 13740, 11760 y 11840, 9535 y 9710, 5040, in typical Soviet-style disorder. But the clueless canned-ID announcer missed a big`un, 15370 confirmed also on, instead of 17730, which may have been on an early never-implemented version of the A-16 schedule, or just a mistake. They also never mention 11830 & 11850, the perpetual weak spurs attached to 11840, and which I just reconfirmed by actual monitoring.

Further, continues to add the three FM frequencies, 102.5, 91.7 and 103.1. The website sked http://www.radiohc.cu/interesantes/frecuencias
has now been changed to show for Isla de Juventud, 91.7 instead of 97.1, which it had for months; my questioning that contradixion must finally have reached them (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA NORTH [non]. 5965, July 28 at 1300, the Sea Breeze YL voice with piano music is opening the Thursday-only English hour; very poor about S4 vs storm noise crashes up to S9, but is beginning to become audible with latening sunrises, still a sesquihour earlier here today at 1135 UT; via JSR, JAPAN, changed a few days ago from 5935 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN. 15500, July 28 at 2105, REE is S6 to Mideast, good in news of US politix, off the back from Noblejas, while there is no signal on 17855 for North America; nor can I hear anything on others listed, 17715 or 15390. Is 15500 really the only one on the air, or just a low MUF? Nothing else from Europe on 16m to compare it with. EiBi shows 21620 instead of 15390 for 18-22, while I and Aoki think that`s only for the extended weekend broadcasts at 14-18 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1836 monitoring: confirmed Thursday July 28 at 2100 on WRMI, 13695, S9+30. The start was slightly up-cut as the preceding ID version I hadn`t heard before ran a bit over. WOR also confirmed Thursday July 28 after 2330 on WBCQ 9329.817-CUSB, and slightly wavering. Next:

** U S A. 5085, July 28 at 0542, WTWW-2 is off again, no `Midnight [sic] in the Desert`, despite having revived 24 hours earlier with rock music, but apparently crashed again during the following 9930 afternoon broadcast.

12105, July 28 at 0554, JBA carrier, only likely source of which is WTWW-3, on way beyond schedule; while 5830 WTWW-1 is abnormally weak at S7-S9, due to propagation disturbance also attenuating Nashville neighbors WWCR on 5935 and 5890. With its southern advantage, 5850 WRMI is unscathed.

12105, July 28 at 1800, WTWW-3 is on with mumbo-jumbo in Biblical English, about circumcision: hard to tell whether pro- or con, but since Jewish ``cockroaches`` are for it, presumably WTWW is against it. At 2107 check it`s S9+25 Bibling in French.

9930, July 28 at 1801 and still 1838 recheck, WTWW-2 is still gone again, while 9475 WTWW-1 is nominal (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9440, July 28 at 1306, strong open carrier, then cuts to relatively weak signal, maybe open? Based on Aoki listings seem to be:
First, IBB Tinang, Philippines, pre-test for 14-15 Chinese broadcast, then uncovering only thing sked this hour, CRI in Esperanto via Nanning (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 12040, July 28 at 2108, JBA carrier. Aoki shows only KSDA GUAM in Chinese during this hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
