** AUSTRALIA. 9580, April 21 at 1302, RA is missing from its #1 frequency!
Fortunately, 12085, #2 frequency is VG and also audible on #3, 12065. Still no
9580 later in the hour during `Daily Planet` about Shakespeare. Just in case, I
check alternatively registered 6150 and 6080, but not there either (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 19070, April 21 at 1330, JBA
carrier, as I keep tuning up after striking out on Kuwait/China jamming in the
18900-19030 band. I realize 19070 is 2 x 9535, i.e. RHC. Not enough signal for a
definite //, but I don`t doubt it, as fundamentals on 17580, 17730 are blasting
in (and 17750 has been dropped). So I look for further harmonic carriers, and
here`s another: 19280, which is 2 x 9640. However, can`t hear one on 19420,
despite VG signal on 9710. Note that 9535/19070 and 9640/19280 are Bejucal site,
while 9710 is Bauta, so at least in this case, Bejucal is more prone to
harmonicizing. Need to tune the 19-20 MHz band more for 9 MHz band harmonix
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** BIAFRA [non]. 11700, April 20
at 1757 past 1800, no signal from R. Biafra, which has been promising to come
back today at ``7-10 pm London Time`` on this new frequency ex-11600:
IPOB
website is from the Indigenous People of Biafra. Nor further chex in next hour
by Jari Savolainen, Finland and Bill Bingham, South Africa. In case the time be
wrong, I try again at 2103 and now get a JBA carrier on 11700, wondering if that
be it, but no one can confirm it. Well, maybe they`ll get around to reviving SW
in following days (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1822, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** GERMANY. 17720, April 20 at 1758, very poor S1 with Horn of
Africa music: HFCC shows it`s AWR in Oromo via Nauen at 1730-1800 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** GUINEA. 9650, April 19 at 2330, still no
signal from R. Guinée, since last heard by others around 0800 April 16. Will it
ever come back, and from site inside or outside? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF
RADIO 1822, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** INDONESIA. 4869.91, April 20 at 1250,
JBA carrier, surely RRI Wamena on distinctive off-frequency, reported by Ron
Howard to have been re-active on April 17 and 18. Also stronger with music on
4749.97 approx., no doubt Makassar, with het from Bangladesh or China. Enid
sunrise today: 1249 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** KOREA
NORTH [non]. 9900, April 20 after 1300 I note a new Asian signal here but don`t
pursue it. Ivo Ivanov says it`s Nippon no Kaze & Furusato no Kaze, via
TAIWAN, at 1300-1400, having added a second frequency to all its broadcasts
about North Korean abduxions; during this hour also 9950 Taiwan. At 1430-1630
the pair change almost every semihour, including some via Palau (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1822, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MADAGASCAR. 17640, April
19 at 1801 & 1816 chex, still nothing from African Pathways Radio via MWV. I
suspect they have only one of their two transmitters operational; at this hour
there is also a Russian broadcast on 9570 which is still being reported from
Europe where the English on 17640 was less well-heard.
9480, April 21 at
0425, S9+15, MWV is on tonight with promo for African Hour of Faith, then song
repeating ``Africa`` over and over. Seems to cut off at 0425.6, back at 0433. Or
was the NRD-545 zapped by a surge? Not using an outside antenna, but meanwhile
I`m getting strange MW or FM-like signals in this area, so close down quickly as
a thunderstorm has suddenly hit (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENIND
DIGEST)
** NETHERLANDS [non]. Correcting: the J-16 frequency will be
9925, not 9935, still risking WTWW adjacency on 9930, fixed here:
6040,
UT Sunday April 17 at 0009 and later, KBC is not so mighty tonight via GERMANY,
as it`s very poor, scarcely stronger than the Brazilian het! Unusable this week,
but apparently the North American service will be continuing via Nauen, as Uncle
Eric has talked about making the usual shift in May to 9925 (a legacy of
Croatian Radio relay which this succeeded). That should be better overall in the
summer, but still subject to lower MUF cutoffs; and we can only hope that WTWW
won`t show up on 9930 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** ROMANIA.
17800, April 19 at 1920, nice Slavic-sounding folk music, S9. Soon announced in
Spanish, so it`s RRI, and I hear the word ``tedesco`` which is Italian for
German, maybe also the word in Romanian, originated presumably as a corruption
from `Deutsch`, which is a lot closer than the words used in English and
Spanish.
9620, April 21 at 0424, pop music with disco beat at S6-S8, one
of few decent signals on the band: it`s RRI Galbeni in Romanian to France at 285
degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SUDAN [non]. 15620,
April 20 at 1801 dead air at S9, stronger than 15610 WEWN; by 1805 it`s
modulating Arabic: IBB`s Afia Darfur service at 1800-1830 via VATICAN (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 13565-CW, April 20 at 1427,
K6FRC QRP beacon from California is JBA vs CODAR (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1821 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday April
19 at 2130 on WRMI 15770, fair. Also confirmed Tue April 19 at 2330 on WBCQ
9330v-CUSB, barely audible. NOT confirmed Wed April 20 at 1315 since WRMI 9955
is off the air (but still going on 5015, 5850, 6915, 7570, 7730, 9395 (TruNews
wacko conspiracy theories, tunnel from Antarctica, etc.), 11580 (world music,
Sandunga), 11825, 17790, 21675; that`s 11; which ones did I miss? 9455, 15770,
and only #2 with 5985 at night is not scheduled to be on now. 9955 is still off
at 1451).
WOR 1821 also confirmed Wed April 20 at 2100 on WBCQ webcast
(this time, between the WBCQ ID and start of WOR, another call-letter-only WBCQ
jingle is inserted). Also heard directly on 7490, fair at 2105 check. Also
confirmed Wed April 20 at 2330, very poor on 9330v-CUSB WBCQ.

** U S A. 9265, April 20
at 1325 check, WINB no longer being heard this week so early; nor April 21 at
1354 check. Why and with what were they doing it last week? Still no clues on
their website schedule (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A.
17775, April 19 at 1451, JBA carrier, presumably KVOH, which is getting to be
the norm for them if still signing on at *1400 without a MUF buildup to 18 MHz
at least. Next check at 1919, there is still a carrier here, just barely
modulated; and still at 2130, very poor, so leaving it on beyond previous 1900*?
As I suggested would be prudent for Latin America. Nothing else is known to use
17775 anywhen, disregarding one of countless wooden HFCC registrations from UAE
at 16-17 only. Seems like KVOH is barely creaking along, despite having acquired
another used transmitter years ago.
17775, April 20 at 1756, can tell
KVOH is on at S3-S4 but JBM. At 1804 it`s much weaker than 17765 WHRI which has
just opened, and even weaker than 17790 WRMI. 9975 had been completely off the
air in evenings, but not checked UT April 20 or 21 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 4915.07, April 20 at 1250, JBA carrier.
No Asians are listed on this frequency, so what, an AIR off-frequency again?
Also getting lots of 60m carriers on Indian/Chinese/East Turkistani frequencies,
right at sunrise here (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 11640, April 20 at 1421, mystery S9 open carrier
with slight fading; 1455 at S6; 1804 still at S5. Maybe instead of a broadcaster
this is another utility, such as an RTTY station with only rare bursts of
activity, otherwise dead air (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 18970, Wed April 20 at 1343, JBA carrier,
imagination level, like last week, a frequency not listed for the Tibet radio
war of RFA Kuwait vs CNR1 jamming (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
