** ANGUILLA [and non]. 6090 & 5935 WWCR, nice jazz saxophone, but we know
it`s only a brief interlude for The so-called University Network to give their
800 number and make a reservation for this Sunday`s service, obviously too late
now; back to PMS blather (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also
ETHIOPIA
** CUBA. 15140, Sunday April 17 after 1930, RHC English with
nice classical guitar concert, good to accompany my nap; at 1957 the modulation
suddenly degrades to suptorted. At least the correct frequency has been achieved
for a second day. Guitar repeats and repeats, and heard again before 0400 April
18 on 6000.
15370, April 17 at 1957, the different modulation is also
suppressed and distorted here.
15370, Sunday April 17 at 2243 check, RHC
only in Spanish, S9+20 but still suptorted. This is when weekly Esperanto is
supposed to appear.
17730, Sunday April 17 at 2243, RHC Esperanto is here
instead of scheduled 15370, thus evading the self-collision which had been
happening last week. 15370 Spanish is Bauta, so 17730 is presumably Bejucal,
which frequency was listed in the A-16 schedule only in the mornings until
1500*.
The 2230-0030 broadcasts to S America in French/Esperanto,
Creole, Portuguese and Quechua (really French at 0000), are apparently all on
17730 now instead of 15370.
The RHC skeds clearly show three sites:
Bauta, Bejucal and Quivicán = Titán = San Felipe. The WRTH 2016 entry under
RadioCuba on page 462 says there are only two sites, named and powered
thus:
Bauta, Corralillo (GC 22N57/082W33): 1 x 50 kW, 6 x 100 kW; and
Quivicán, San Felipe (GC 22N50 082W18): 5 x 250 kW
The RHC A-16 schedule
shows all BAU frequencies are 100 kW; all QVC 250 kW; and BEJ either 50 or 100
kW. Does this mean the WRTH version has merged Bejucal with Bauta?
15230,
April 17 at 2244, very poor RHC is also suptorted here, sounds like Brazilian;
yes, Portuguese scheduled 22-23, separately from the half-hour at 2230 on 11880
for Africa.
13740, Sunday April 17 at 2246, RHC Filatelia show is still
running, undermodulated but less distorted than the others. Better hurry up, as
`En Contacto` needs to start right now in order to be over by end of
transmission 2300. Others with this: 11840 distorted; 11760 very good S9+30 not
distorted; 9710 fair; 9535 poor; 5040 probably but too weak in noise level.
Still no Contacto by a few minutes later.
11880, April 17 at 2246, RHC is
in Kriyol here, VG S9+30. This transmission is listed as Portuguese! In the A-16
sked from Arnie in DXLD 16-14, which went into effect a week ago, already two
weeks late; and RHC`s own website as of UT April 18 is *still* only showing the
old B-15 transmission schedule
6000
& 6165, April 18 at 0313, `DXers Unllimited` is starting so as I tune out,
note that both are equally undermodulated, while 6060 Spanish is much louder,
tsk2.
5055.00, April 18 at 0321, very poor music audible and // 5025
Radio Rebelde, i.e. leapfrog mixing product over 5040 RHC another 15 kHz higher.
This could also happen in reverse to 5010.
A-16 sked shows all three 60m
frequencies are from Bauta site, so subject to intermodulation. Should 4765
Radio Progreso be involved during its limited schedule 0030-0400 UT, the landing
spots would be
4490 (5040 over 4765)
4505 (5025 over 4765)
5285 (4765
over 5025)
5315 (4765 over 5040)
9782.70 & 9797.30, April 18 at
0327, parasitic spurs to dirty CRI relay transmitter on 9790 during The Beijing
Hour. Sitting on one of the spurs, they can cut off, and different pitch spurs
cut on and off. Best when fundamental is huge, not always the case depending on
MUF (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** ECUADOR. 6050, April 18
at 0111, very poor signal, reads S9+10 but that includes the noise level, and
also seems undermodulated. Anyhow, HCJB has survived the huge earthquake, but it
did not jolt the transmitter into putting out any more watts, which it has
desperately needed. At this hour probably in indigenous language Waorani.
Recheck at 0314, sounds Spanish but still too weak to read at S-5; by 0341
surged to S9+15 during an hymn, seemingly in English past 0345 a little better
sounding. Does HCJB still run the `Spotlight` quarter-hour in English at 0330?
If so, Aoki misses it during Spanish service. HCJB normally signs off at 0500
with national anthem, but maybe the emergency would keep it on all night? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** EGYPT. 9965.22, April 18 at 0113, R.
Cairo in some Arabic undermodulated with whine (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** ETHIOPIA [and non]. 6090, April 18 at 0317, HOA music quite
audible underneath strong PMS Anguilla, from Radio Amhara. No SAH or
LAH.
6110, April 18 at 0317, R. Fana in the clear here, but weaker and
undermodulated, S8; 0350 check it`s better with HOA music, while can`t hear any
under 6090 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MADAGASCAR [and
non]. 9665.0, April 18 at 0119, gospel huxter in English, first time Madagascar
World Voice heard atop Voz Missionária music from Brasil, making LAH from a few
Hz to the lower side; calls himself Doc White; at 0121 giving KNLS Anchor Point
postal and e-mail addresses, so should we call this ALASKA [non]? About as non
as you can get from there!
6150, April 18 at 0335, La Voz Alegre is gone
again, the MWV Spanish hour which surely would be audible if on; ditto 9480,
African Pathways Radio at 0412 check, which was inbooming last night (like 9560
NHK Swahili via other Madagascar still is until 0400 tonight, including Japanese
lesson). So MWV schedule is still erratic (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** MADAGASCAR. 6065, April 8 at 0315, slow talk in unknown
language, i.e. Malgache, AWR hour via Talata itself, S9+10. Must keep an ear on
6065 from 0600 for revival of Voice of Hope Africa, Zambia (as well as 6115
CONGO which was again being heard in Eurevenings (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** SRI LANKA. 11905, April 18 at *0114:11 carrier on from SLBC,
very poor S2, just enough to detect prélude from 0114:49, and 2+1 mis-timesignal
ending at 0115:17.5 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SUDAN
[non]. 5925, April 18 at 0310, Arabic mentioning Darfur and US government
officials, S9+30, doing much better than the 5915 UNID vs 5920 WHRI. This is
Afia Darfur, via VATICAN which does a good job of reaching non-targets (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1821
monitoring: April 17 at 2340 amid the Sunday 2330 airing on WBCQ 9330v-CUSB,
very poor but sounds like me; a bit better at 2358. Also confirmed UT Monday
April 18 from 0030:05 on WRMI 7730, fair. Also confirmed UT Monday April 18 from
slightly before 0300 on Area 51 webcast, and on 5129.72-AM WBCQ at 0319 check,
S9 vs storm noise level, mostly readable. Also confirmed UT Monday after 0330 on
WRMI 9955.02, S9+30 atop but with jamming underneath (and there was no jamming
when checked a few minutes earlier; tnx a lot, Arnie!). Next:

** U S A. 9330.08-CUSB, April 18 at 0125, WBCQ
is back on during this hour at least on Sunday night, Baptist? gospel huxter
about submerging Catholix is not enough to save them, tsk2 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 5050, April 17 at 2256, no signal from WWRB
at its nominal sign-on time; but rechecked at 2358, NOW the Radio RSA IS is
running an hour later; since it`s Sunday? By next check April 18 at 0029, amid a
gospel huxter rather than a Dave monolog. At 0123 with very lo-fi religious
music, sounds like a terrible phoneline, then reciting Psalm XXIII accompanied
by `Rock of Ages` hymn.
9370, April 18 at 0123, WWRBS is still on day
frequency after 9 pm ET; by 0325 April 18, 3185 is still not on and there is a
JBA carrier on 9370, maybe this; while 5050 is off already (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 9975, April 18 at 0112, KVOH is AWOL; allows
one to enjoy the lite pulse jamming against nothing on 9980. Still no 9975 at
0325 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 5915, April 18
at 0309 & 0348, JBA carrier only detectable in huge splash from 5910 and
5920 stations; this hour was supposed to be Radio Lead Africa on UT Mon/Tue/Fri,
via South Africa, despite ZAMBIA`s long usage of 5915. Has anyone definitely
heard RLA lately on any of its alleged transmissions? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 6947.40, April 18 at 0307, S9+20 open
carrier is still here, ``SSOB`` on the pirate band lacking any pirates at the
moment. Correcting transposition in frequency from earlier report: Also 6947.40,
April 17 at 0350, open carrier S7 to S9, still mysterious. Walt Salmaniw in BC
has also been hearing it on 6947.425, and now it`s reported all over North
America (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED.
9688.50-USB, April 18 at 0118, very poor 2-way in Spanish INTRUDERS; also can
detect them at recheck 0328 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
