** AUSTRALIA. 15200, Sunday May 17 at 1118, good signal in slow English, talking
about GPI teaching women to write journalistic stories and take photos. It`s
RBA, 100 kW, 320 degrees from Kununurra, scheduled 1115-1130 in English on
Sun/Mon/Tue/Thu, per Aoki. What`s GPI? Too many options in searching on that
abbr. And searching within the RBA website gets zero hits (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA [non]. 1520, May 17 at 1132 UT, KYND Cypress
(Houston) TX with CRI English, axually atop KOKC OKC, then fighting it out; hard
to separate them at almost same azimuth from here (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA [and non]. 21690, May 17 at 0556, very poor
signal, but something is propagating on 13m now in the nightmiddle --- RFA
Chinese via TINIAN is here, and of course the CNR1 jammer, but too weak to tell
which.
13690, May 17 at 1308, very heavy CCI here between music and
Chinese, then the music side make another Chinese announcement. It`s VOA Chinese
via SAIPAN during this hour only, and CNR1 jamming during the Sunday evening
serious music show, as also heard with less CCI on other jammer frequencies,
11785 and 11640, music with full orchestra and traditional instruments (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** EGYPT. 13850, May 17 at 0548, R.
Cairo, extremely distorted Arabic music (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** MEXICO. 650, May 17 at 1125 UT, I am finally awake early
enough for some summer sunrise skip from some of my favorite Mexicans, regulars
an hour or two later in the winter. Here is Mexican oom-pah music from the WSW
and owning the frequency, no WSM or anything else, of course XETNT, Los Mochis,
Sinaloa, confirmed by ``Radio 65`` jingle at 1129, and a Sinaloa song, starting
to fade and gone by 1140 recheck.
Gaisma.com lacks a listing for Los
Mochis! But interpolating between Culiacán and Obregón, sunrise should be about
1227, an hour later than our Enid SR today of 1123 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. 730, May 17 at 1125 UT, hummy open carrier,
altho hard to get a fix on it, probably XEHB, 50/1 kW in Chihuahua, to go with
SRS still in from 650 XETNT Sinaloa (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** NIGERIA. 15120-, May 17 at 0552, obviously VON with wobbly AM carrier
slightly on the lo side. Supposed to be in English, apparently a drama with
excited W & M actors, but I can`t lock into understanding them. Is it
heavily accented or really something else? At one point it almost sounds like
French intonation. But at 0555 switch to studio announceress who is definitely
in English.
9689.9, May 17 at 0557, drumming and fluting, good signal,
some distortion, 0600 sign-on in Hausa.
7255-, May 17 at 0558, // 9689.9
but much weaker; no SAH. Anyhow, three transmitters are accounted for now, and
on three frequencies instead of two (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. Another tornado outbreak Saturday evening May 16 led
the OKC TV stations again to drop everything for wall-to-wall storm coverage. As
usual, the only network news making it thru was CBS` at 2230 UT, shifted from
KWTV RF 39 to its substation KSBI RF 23; but at 2300 UT, back to KSBI regular
programming. I suppose the primetime schedule after 0000 UT May 17 again went
back to channel ``52``, unchecked. NBC viewers of KFOR RF 27 out of luck until
0330 UT for SNL season finale. KOCO again shifted ABC from 5.1 to 5.2,
pre-empting MeTV on RF 7.
OKC didn`t get hit, after tornados broke out to
the west, but as the storm front approached The Metro, I checked the FM & AM
stations circa 0130 UT May 17:
Relaying KFOR 4 audio: 94.7, 96.1, 101.9,
102.7, 1000
Relaying KWTV 9 audio: 92.5, 93.3, 104.1, 107.7,
1520
Relaying KOCO 5 audio: 99.7, 88.1 [KWOU Woodward relaying
106.3]
Relaying KOKH 25 audio: NONE
Following retained regular
programming of sports or music (tho might have had weather advisory break-ins):
90.1, 91.7, 96.9, 98.1, 98.9, 100.5, 640, 930; and all gospel huxters commercial
or non- (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PALAU. 9930, Sunday
May 17 at 1315, fair signal with `Easy English Study`, based on what else?
Bible, now Hebrews X:38. Hunting thru WHR website, it`s not Angel 3 or Angel 4,
but Angel 5, whose coverage map is supposedly Africa and Middle East from Turkey
to Iran. HFCC shows:
``9930 1300 1430 43-45 HBN 100 345 0 146 1234567
290315 251015 D 9900 MyaEng USA HBN FCC`` --- CIRAF 43-45 are in fact China and
Japan!
Here`s the program I heard:
``1315-1330 9:15 AM-9:30 AM Su Easy
English Studies Loretta Li 9.930``
The Angel 5 schedule
is
a strange thing, ``off the air`` at 00-07, but large hours of programming when
it`s supposedly not ``off the air`` yet with no frequency shown: 07-12, and
1630/1700-2400.
In the 1200-1630/1700 period it hops around to a variety
of frequencies depending on the hour, day of week, and customer: 9950, 9930,
9960, 9975, and a few bits on 17520, which is not in the registrations at all
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PUNTLAND. 13800, May 17 at
1307, very poor signal in talk, then into Qur`an, so certainly R. Puntland
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SUDAN [and non]. 11645, May 17
at 0547, R. Dabanga, fair signal via VATICAN, while tone jammers still weakly
stay around 11650.
13800, May 17 at 0549, R. Dabanga, YL in Arabish, good
signal via VATICAN and no jamming audible. ``Night`` signals from Europe are now
superior to those from Africa as we approach Solstice, hardly a month away
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U K [non]. 15510, May 17 at
1122, poor signal in English. Aoki shows it`s BBCWS, 100 kW, 13 degrees via
SINGAPORE at 10-12, which only started on May 11. Heading is also USward. And of
course it`s *jammed by the ChiCom, maybe by noise but not noted here (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9370, May 17 at 1316, again no
signal from WWRB BS disservice; still none at 1536. Need to check whether WWRB
is on at all, evenings on 5050 or 3185. Website
has
always claimed:
``Transmitters:
Global-1: Fully Operational; 115 kW
capable
Global-2: Fully Operational; 115 kW capable
Global-3: Fully
Operational; 150 kW capable
Global-4: Fully Operational; 150 kW
capable
Global-5: Fully Operational; 150 kW capable, (back-up
transmitter)``
but has not been heard on any more than two at once for
several years. Now down to one, or zero? The long-outdated non-BS program
schedule for 3185 was removed some time ago (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** U S A. 1540, May 17 at 1132 UT, incredibly awful audio catches
my attention, mixture of church music and talk, sounds like an ancient cylinder
recording! Music stops at 1134 UT and then a bit better copy of preacher, but
still can`t understand his ID; anyhow, good signal from NE/SW, surely KXEL
Waterloo IA still propagating a little past sunrise. Unlike many stations, this
one axually has a full program schedule on website, strangely linked from top of
home page as ``paid programming`` which this certainly is, but not all of
it:
``Sundays
6:30-7:30 am Whole Truth Church`` in CDT = UT -5 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST) See also CHINA [non]
