** ALBANIA [and non]. 9850, May 13 at 0132, R. Tirana is back on original
frequency for English to North America, after switch to 9855 on May 10 UT (not
on air May 11, and not checked May 12). Nothing on 9855, but very poor
propagation on 9850 and I want to positive it`s RT so retune at 0156 to hear RT
closing IS.
At 0157 I`m also hearing some weak SSB QRM. This demodulates
as 9851-LSB, and in clear after Tirana 0158*. Sounds like ham or MARS,
intermittent one side only, copied ``come down for a fish fry``. Never heard any
such QRM to RT before on 9850. Possibly from 160m band, 4 x 1970.2; or the
PL-880 may be fooling me with an overload image (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** BURUNDI [non]. Another check May 12 for the newly expanded
services of VOA to this country due to strife there: listed as 1600-1630 UT on
three frequencies. At 1608, I can hear a poor signal on 17530 with hilife music;
15460 very poor seemingly //, both São Tomé, and nothing audible on 13630
Botswana. Ivo Ivanov was monitoring the same semihour and says only 13630 was in
Kinyarwanda [sic: surely Kirundi if for Burundi]; while 15460 & 17630 were
in music, then English.
So their act is not together. Also the VOA PR
gave the wrong frequencies for the 1930-2000 broadcast, NOT the same as at
0400-0530, but instead 9470, 11615 and 12140. I couldn`t hear any of those May
12 after 1930 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA. 9420, May
12 at 1220, music fair with flutter, seems Chinese rather than Greek. Aoki shows
two Chinese stations on 9420 at this hour besides Greece: CNR13 in Uyghur via
Lingshi 725 site and CNR6 in Mandarin via Beijing 491 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** MALAYSIA. 11665, May 12 at 1235, fair signal with
chanting past 1242; and a non-chanty song at 1249, presumed RTM with Wai or
Sarawak FM service (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** NIGERIA.
7255 & 9690, May 12 at 0615 check, poor signals, but can make them // so VON
is on again with presumed Hausa, but much degraded propagation tonight (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 1120, May 11 around 1830 UT
on caradio, where I can have better reception of Catoosa/Sperry/Tulsa ``La
Picuda`` when on --- open carrier still quieting compared to e.g. 1110 with no
signal from KFAB or anything.
1120, May 12 at 1611 UT check on PL-880,
now NO signal, not even with BFO, from KEOR/KETU, but you never know what they
will do next, or when (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

OKLAHOMA. 91.7, Tue May 12 at 1345 UT, KOSU Stillwater/OKC with monthly show
pre-empting part of NPR Morning Edition: `The Living Room with Gerry Bonds`,
OK-themed interviews on wide variety of topix. Details:
``Literacy and
Language. May 2015 --- Our program was preempted on May 6th due to sever
weather. It will be re-broadcast Wednesday, May 13th at 6:30 pm [2330
UT]
Have you ever heard of a "book desert?" Book scarcity is a harsh
realty in high poverty communities, not only in Oklahoma, but in many parts of
the USA, and the world, for that matter. What we’ll be tackling in The Living
Room this month is the challenge of turning book scarcity into book abundance
for very young children. You know what I mean --- those wonderful early
childhood picture books that so many of us remember for the rest of our lives.
Unite for Literacy is a Colorado-based enterprise that is dedicated to
eliminating book deserts. Go to their website http://uniteforliteracy.com and you’ll
see a library of free digital picture books narrated for kids in 27 languages.
Recently, KOSU teamed up with Unite for Literacy. Their goals? Get kids excited
about reading and then make sure they have access to books, no matter what
language they speak. Our first guests are Unite for Literacy CEO, Mike McGuffee,
is here, and with him KOSU Director, Kelly
Burley. LISTEN NOW
During
our second segment, we discuss the fact that Oklahoma is one of 18 so-called hot
spots identified around the world where native languages are disappearing. For
some tribes, like the Cherokees, the preservation effort has made good progress.
Even the Unite for Literacy Project has 50 children's books in the Cherokee
language as part of its free online library. But for some other tribes, it
continues to be a real struggle and a race against time. We’ll talk about two of
those tribes with some very special guests: Lori Hamilton is Executive Officer
of the History & Culture Division of the Chickasaw Nation and Justin
McBride, Language Director of the Kaw Nation. LISTEN NOW``. Audio:

** SUDAN [and non]. 11650, May 12 at
0540, JBA signal from presumed R. Dabanga via VATICAN, while no signal audible
on 13800 in degraded propagation.
15550, May 12 at 1543, Arabish audible
on LSB, while USB is mixed with WJHR; 15150 JBA carrier, 17600 inaudible. By
1609, Arabish is dominant on 15550 with Dabanga mentioned, and tone jamming too
and/or just carrier on 15551.0. Still nothing audible on 17600 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** TIBET [non]. 15525, May 12 at 1401, poor
signal from V. of Tibet presumed via MADAGASCAR, so I`m standing by for
frequency jump to 15530 which does occur at *1407:05; no jamming audible on
either, before or after. Recheck 1428, already off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 5830, May 12 at 0532, open carrier/dead air
except for some hum from WTWW-1. Next check May 12 at 1434, QSY to day frequency
has been accomplished, but still dead air! Ted must be making the changes by
remote control without bothering to hear whether anything is really being
modulated; same old story. Even the operator doesn`t care to listen to PPPP.
Amazing that the SFAW ownership allows this to recur, but presumably just as
clueless back in Laporte. Unfortunately, by 1930 when I`m routinely checking for
the new VOA Burundi service on 9470, now it`s totally splashed out by mod from
WTWW (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
