Glenn Hauser logs December 10-11, 2014

** ANGUILLA. 6090, Dec 11 at 0627, `Caribbean Beacon` is still off. Nothing else audible but might have heard Ethiopia or Nigeria if tuned in earlier. DGS can still be heard on 5935 WWCR with only fair signal now in the night. 11775 also off at 1336 Dec 11 check, and still off at 1835 final recheck. Another SWBC country down the drain? Not that it had any value whatsoever, serving merely to propagate Dead Gene Scott from Los Ángeles, without so much as a local ID, ever. But it`s often crashed before only to return eventually. Probably need to fly in an engineer and/or parts from USA if it`s worth fixing (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 11747, Dec 11 at 0621, crackly spur from 11780.1 RNA is very poor but detectable with BFO (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 9330, Thu Dec 11 at 0617, HM01 Spanish spy numbers mixed with digital bursts are already running and past 0632, VG signal; must have been the open carrier previous night, rather than WBCQ, which would get creamed if it were on. I thought the Numbers were after 0700 only (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** FRANCE. 7390, Dec 10 at 0641, RFI French with fast SAH, again indicating a second transmitter is on the air, also Issoudun? Other possibility is that R. Tirana is for some reason on with open carrier much earlier than *0800, and it is known to be off-frequency: Wolfgang Büschel measured that 19 Hz low before 1000 UT Dec 4.

17850, Dec 11 at 1432, open carrier with rapid intermittent pulsing sounds but which do not seem to be interrupting the carrier. HFCC schedules now an imaginary ``tentat`` English! broadcast from RFI at 1430-1500, 500 kW, 84 degrees from Issoudun. Something in the worx? I doubt it, but why run the transmitter at all? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO monitoring: #1750 confirmed Wed Dec 10 at 1415 on WRMI 9955. #1750 also confirmed on webcast of WBCQ, 7490v, Wednesday Dec 10 at 2200.

#1747! From four weeks ago played on Global 24 via WRMI, 9395, Wednesday Dec 10 at 2201, as checked on webcast. We`d also heard same Feature Story `News` headlines at 2200 before, today, or previous day?

#1751, first airing confirmed on WRMI webcast, UT Thursday Dec 11 at 0430, but *inaudible* on 9955, off the air or just not propagating? Bits of pulse jamming but not enough to obscure the signal. 9395 was slightly better, JBA, while WRMI 5 & 7 MHz channels VG as usual.

Next airing on WRMI, Thursday Dec 11 at 1330 is JBA on 9955, but enough to confirm it`s on the air and new #1751. This time, all the other WRMI channels are *much* stronger, including 9395, 11580, 11825, 15770, so something must be wrong with 9955. Next:

Thursday 2201 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
Friday 0030 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395 [we can only hope these will be the latest edition, as several other times have repeated old programs]
Friday 0425v on WWRB 3185 [? Did not even try to play it last week]
Friday 2130 on WRMI 7570 & 15770
Saturday 0300 on Area 51 via WBCQ 5110v-CUSB AND 7490
[make-up for missing UT Sunday 0400; but will it be 1751 or 1750?]
Saturday 0401 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
[? I was told this time would be added but it hasn`t happened yet]
Saturday 0730 & 1530 on Hamburger Lokalradio 7265-CUSB
Sunday 0200 on WH2XDE-1 Victor NY 1750 kHz
Sunday 0231 on KVOH 9975 [we hope; modulation failed last week]
Sunday 1000 on WRMI 5850 [scheduled but could someone confirm?]
Sunday 2300 on WRMI 11580
Monday 0400v on Area 51 via WBCQ 5110v-CUSB
Monday 2201 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
Tuesday 1200 on WRMI 9955
Wednesday 0401 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
Wednesday 0730 & 1530 on Hamburger Lokalradio 7265-CUSB
Wednesday 1415 on WRMI 9955
Wednesday 2200 on WBCQ 7490v
Wednesday 2201 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9955, Dec 11 at 0619, WRMI is still inaudible like it was at 0430 for World of Radio, q.v. Only a bit of pulse jamming; while 9395 G24 is JBA now, but further signals like BBC 9915, 9460 are OK.

9955 is slightly better at 1330 Dec 11, but only JBA, while nearest other SW station, Cuba 9850 is very good, as is higher WRMI 11825; and 9395 with Global 24 is also very good now, unlike 9955. Something must be wrong with 9955.

Jeff White replies at 1648 UT Dec 11: ``I think it's still on 181, with high takeoff angle, until later today. Then we'll go back to 160. Been doing some maintenance on transmitter 10. Jeff``

17790, Dec 11 at 1358, gospel music already playing from Radio Africa Network via WRMI, supposedly *1400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9395, Thu Dec 11 at 1333, Global 24 via WRMI is relaying KBS World Radio in show about folk tales, and a very good strong signal, unlike 9955, so maybe really 315-degree antenna altho WRMI frequency schedule grid continues to show 355 degrees for 9395 at all times.

At 1400 change to Old Time Radio hour, on `Upstate Radio Theater` (meaning New York, or what? Lots of states have up and down parts), and it`s the *same* episode we have heard a few times before, `Woodbury Show Starring Bing Crosby` dated September 18, 1934, as that season was beginning (just like TV ``seasons`` still begin around fall equinox today). First song is ``Love in Bloom`` but only a teaser, as he sings it in full at 1426 recheck; 1430 Woodbury soap ad. Yet another instance of G24 playing the same old shows over and over. It seems keeping a 24/7 schedule updated with new content cannot be achieved, sigh. For this to succeed financially they need to be in it for the long haul (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 900, Dec 11 at 1312 UT, ``All-Ag News``, fading by 1318 UT. Must be Floydada TX flagship of this minor network, KFLP, which once had a big dog relay here in Enid, 1640 while it was known as KOAG, for less than a year, one of many successive formats that have FLoPped.

Well, its website
http://www.allagnews.com/ seems timely and with podcasts available, but nothing about any other stations relaying, so belay that about `flagship`. KFLP itself is only 250 watts day, 7 watts (ha, ha) night. Oh oh, official sunrise in December is not until 1345 UT (SS 2345 UT; January: 1345-2400 UT). FCC Correspondence File does show they have a PSRA of 3.0 watts! Most of the year, surging to 6 or 5 watts in June and July, the ``limiting station`` being XEW!

1) What`s the point of a PSRA which is LOWER than the authorized night power? 2) XEW hardly needs any protexion from Floydada considering there`s now a station in between in Monterrey NL plus four other XEs on 900, unclearing 900 for XEW`s alleged 250 kW. 3) What`s the point of ANY AM station running less than 10 watts, with loads of QRM on every channel at night? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 910, Dec 11 at 1316 UT, outro to `American Story with Tom Brokaw`, says it`s on at 7:15 am and in the 1 and 5 pm hours [ergo cited in CST which inhabits NW ND, while the SW corner is on MST], then Minot ads, so it`s KCJB getting out well again before sunrise. This 5 kW signal has opposite patterns day and night: SW and NE respectively, so must be on day pattern now, despite official December & January FCC sunrise not until 1430 UT! Nothing in FCC Correspondence Folder about a PSRA.

As for Tom`s show, must be only a minute or two; first time I had almost heard it, but started over a year ago per:
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/tom-brokaw-launches-syndicated-radio-651227
Supposedly only on ``select Clear Channel stations`` including WOR and KFBK. No surprise he`s heard from ND, his home state (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1150, Dec 11 at 1321 UT, `Blue Velvet` ending, ``music on AM sounds so good --- Fox``. Best heard with N/S KSAL KS nulled, but DF on this one is more like ENE/WSW. I hunt around for likelies: not Osage Beach MO, which is news/talk; could be KDEF Albuquerque reactivated? Nothing certain about that. KNED McAlester OK is country, and BTW website claims 1150 to be in stereo, not so indicated in the NRC AM Log. Finally find a match at KHRO El Paso TX,
http://www.fox1150.com/ It`s 5000/380 watts U1, i.e. always non-direxional. FCC AM Query however, shows day hours in Dec are 1400-2400 UT (Jan: 1400-0030 UT). No PSRA info. Enid Sunrise today: 1333 UT, to reach 1343 UT in a month (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
