Glenn Hauser logs April 2-3, 2020

** AUSTRALIA. 11825, April 2 at 1447, YL with slow story in English, S9-S7; 1453 fading as OM explains story a little less slowly. Off at 1500 recheck. HFCC shows at 1430-1500 it`s KNX = Reach Beyond Australia, Kununurra. Probably the `Spotlight` evangelical show masquerading as language lesson (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA [non]. 11880, April 2 at 1449, CRI Plus, English succeeds to be on air today via CUBA unlike yesterday. Something`s sometimes right at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 711.00, April 2 at 0558, the + 1 kHz off-frequency carrier from presumed R. Rebelde, but no modulation, is still there hetting legit 710.00 kHz stations; and this time can detect a beat from a second carrier about 1 Hz away instead of 3.33; another Cuban, or TA, at least one of which has varied frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2028)

** CUBA. 4765, April 3 at 0034 tune-in to dead air from Radio Progreso, S9+10/20; 0035 music starts; was there any modulation from nominal *0030? Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13780, April 2 at 1443, RHC S9+10 of dead air; yes, back here after two mornings on 13740, ex-13780 since March 12. Something`s always wrong at RHC. 13700 is still modulating music at S9+20; no spurs (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2028)

** KOREA NORTH. 11710, April 2 at 1505, choral music of the Juche type, also audible at 1450 when 11735 was also on and in with separate programming, i.e. VOK. Haven`t heard them for a long time, probably more due to springtime propagation uptick, altho suspect operation may also be sporadic due to power shortages, etc. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6950-USB, April 2 at 2356, S9 of dense and repetitive rock music, no ID at top-of-hour, but segués until stops April 3 at 0009 with no announcements. Lots of pirate logs this evening at hfunderground, but surprisingly not a single one of this even as unID like mine. Maybe they were all listening to 6923 which I did not find until later (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6923.0-LSB, April 3 at 0012, pirate on here which was not a few minutes ago; unfamiliar music and no carrier had me tune to 6922.7-LSB where it seemed to sound ``best``, but 0014 DJ talk nails down the frequency, says a comet is coming; ``Virus-19 Radio``, hard rock. 0018 more DJ gab, another ID and music; 0024 ``it`s going to take you all; hunker down``. Going to conclude with Iron Butterfly which he remembers from when he was young; 0027 cut to another tune, and off at 0029:40*. Many more logs here https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,64972.0.html started by SyckO Radio who was also reported to take over the same frequency in a few minutes (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 7475, April 2 at 0449, anti-Christ pirate Station
YHWH is S7-S8 but fading down; off by 0512 recheck.

7475 also April 3 at 0257, JBA. He`s stuck to this frequency for the past week (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2028)

Dan Sheedy also reports; ``At 0504* closing on April 2, he mentioned YHWH's 'daylight' frequency of 11.56 MHz (operating sporadically) & said the 7475 broadcast usually begins at "sunset on the Pacific Coast". Dan Sheedy, Encinitas, CA Eton "Ex-Sat'/6m X wire`` (vua gh)

** SAUDI ARABIA [and non]. April 2 from 1812, via UTwente SDR, I cycle thru the registered frequencies at this hour in HFCC B-19, since there is nothing, yet? for A-20, not even an ARS page in the broadcasters` list; and why is it Arabie Saoudite? O, yeah, English is a nothing language for this SWBC, merely imagining 5 hours of it from 1600 on 9840, so I check that first:

9840, April 2 at 1812, ME music but Voice of Turkey ID in German at a time it is supposed to appear, rather than after 2300 on 9830 failing to turn off after English should it occasionally succeed.

Otherwise presume some are axually SA without digging deeper:
9580, nothing
6100, algo, Arabic from Jeddah scheduled but is anything from Jeddah?
9555, Arabic, mentions A-S; ACI from plus side
9675, Turkish
9870, Arabic JBA
11820.044, Arabic -- still not audible in OK
11915, Arabic much weaker
11930, Spanish from OCB mainly, maybe CCI SA
13720, nothing but noise
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2028)

** TURKEY. 9830, April 2 at 2234 check, poor music, so VOT is on today; no RTTY; off at 2352 check instead of extra German (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. One more check of what`s really on WRMI, UT Thu April 2:
0236:
5010 & 5800, off
5850 // 9395, TIAMS
5950, unknown, SMTV?
7570 & 7730, TOMBS
7780, music; break in RUI English fairy tale saga?
9455, Hal Turner, hour 2 on Wednesday night only
9955, Spanish, Praga?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085 // 5830, April 2 at 0114, WTWW back on both frequencies, but both running SFAW gospel huxter, No rock on 5085. Has there been a counter-coup by SFAW HQ vs Ted`s takeover of #2 transmitter for commercial rock and ham stuff? No, by 0511, 5085 has resumed rock music at S9+40 while on other side of the megameter MUF, 5830 talk is JBA, weaker than neighbor 5935 WWCR.

5085, April 2 at 2355, WTWW-2 is on earlier than usual *0100 except Saturdays, hard-sell ad by Ted. FYI: hard-sell ads by Ted or anyone are immediate turn-offs for me. I will not buy *anything* that is pestering me to do so! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1520, April 2 at 0450 UT, KOKC OKC has heavy CCI, soon recognized as 25 kW daytimer KYND, with Bill Turner`s barker loop trying to attract programming to available airtime (even at night?); call him at 373-1520, area code missed; ``1520 AM, KYND Cypress-Houston`` unashamedly cheating at night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, April 2 starting at 0606 UT: 531, 558, 621, 693, 747, 774(2), 792, 837, 846(suspect TP Kiritimati), 855, 882, 891, 909, 936(2), 999, 1089, 1098, 1107(2), 1125, 1134, 1152, 1215, 1305(2), 1458, 1503(2 @ 4 Hz apart; no matching pair at mwoffsets), 1584(2) (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5000-5004, April 2 at 2354, the rapid RTTY QRM to WWV is still here 24 hours later. It was being widely heard last night in the WOR iog, including:

`` I’m hearing it here in upstate NY too at 0212 UTC. I doubt this is coming from WWV - it appears to be on the high side of 5 MHz. It almost buries WWV here in the East. Listening to a Kiwi in Kansas City, the noise is audible, but WWV is louder. Even on the Kiwi in Ft Collins itself, I can hear it in the background, but WWV is of course loud and clear. Jim Barrett - Elmira, NY``

``Now, WWV's signal is stronger at 0243 UT, but RTTY is still very strong at 5000.63, 5001.49, 5002.32, 5003.19, 5004.0 kHz. Maybe it is Fax. If so it`s about 3 kHz wide. Chuck Gessner, W3ON``

``I’ve been running TDOA analysis on various receivers in the Kiwi SDR network in the East and Midwest. It consistently shows a likely source along an axis from central Indiana, up towards Chicago. The transmission is indeed VERY strong on individual Kiwis near Chicago, Indianapolis and Minneapolis. Jim Barrett, Elmira, NY``

Wow. Thanks for the replies. I just turned on my Icom 756 transceiver at 1630 UT on Thursday, and I am hearing it loud. And that is 1230 pm EDT. I tried listening on my Cushcraft MA5B beam to see if there is any difference in signal level. It is mostly consistent with an S3 to S7 in most directions. At 300 degrees it was peaking from S4 to S9. I would suspect that under normal conditions propagation on 5 MHz would be about 500 to 700 miles from my location near Pittsburgh. As someone said, it is probably a goof on someone`s part. But who? 73 de Chuck W3ON`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2028)
