Glenn Hauser logs July 11-12-13, 2018

** AUSTRALIA. 15400, July 12 at 2354, very poor signal in talk at first seems Brazuguese? Surely not; fades up a bit to display that unmistakable Burmese lilt. As RBA is scheduled now. Poor as it is, the OSOB --- except for VG 15730 Cuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 11880, July 12 at 2340, RHC in wrong language instead of English --- Spanish! // 11700, 11760, 11830, 11840, 11850, 12000, 9535. Mostly undermodulated; 11700 also continues to clash with Romania in Spanish. Strongest are 11760 & 11840. At 2348, I can tell 5040 only is still English, but very poor vs storm noise level, and also seems undermod.

12000, July 13 at 0006, dead air except for squeal infesting this transmitter as usual; still undermodulating on 11840, 11760, 11700, and 11880 is off.. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN [non]. 9370, July 12 at 0530, VP S2-S4 talk. First I wonder if it`s WWRB on day-frequency at night, which used to happen when BS was on it. No, it`s R. Farda, via Lampertheim, GERMANY, at 0430-0630 (plus via Kuwait 0630-1100, per HFCC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KUWAIT. 17549.649, July 11 at 2009, JBA carrier has to be R. Kuwait, Arabic to Central and Western North America, measured way off-frequency. Often hear the carrier but not much more, unlike some previous summers, and not noticed it offset like this. Ivo Ivanov has been logging many other MOI frequencies way low; full details with times in the WOR iog and DXLD 18-28: 15529.8, 15539.8, 5959.8, 7249.8, 9749.8. I think I see a pattern here. This a daring (?) transmission from the middle of the night in Kuwait, 23-03 local, on a rather high band, near-transpolar path, per HFCC:
17550 2000 2400 6,7 KBD 250 350 0 216 D 14750 Ara KWT RKW MOI 12058

17550, tried again July 12 at 2351, no signal. I wonder if they are really running it until 2400*? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SRI LANKA. 11905, July 13 at 0029, I`m standing by for SLBC at its newish sign-on time, a transpolar bitsig. 0030 still nothing, no prop this e`en/morn? *0031:18 finally JBA S0.5-S1 carrier cuts on, and music starts circa 0031:51. No timesignal heard but so weak that a few off-pips might have introduced the music (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TAIWAN [non]. 12100, July 12 at 1140, music and Chinese? talk, VP, not // 11785 CNR1 jammer, so suspect it`s really RTI, as per NDXC/Aoki, the 1100-1158-only broadcast, one third of an hour each in Chinese, English and Indonesian via Paochung site (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. I`m all set for the XIX Night of Nights, CW celebration once a year by the Marine Radio Historical Society from Bolinas, California. As described at http://radiomarine.org I have a list of all the frequencies. Starts at 0001 UT July 13. I don`t measure the split frequencies, but they sound about right, and I take their word.

17016.8, July 13 at 0001, JBA, CQ DE KPH ---; 12808.5, much stronger CW contact, presumably KPH. Nothing yet from KFS; someham on 14050, presumably K6KPH or contact.

12695.5, July 13 at 0039, fair signal with V marker repeating, apparently no replies yet: ``VVV VVV VVV CQ DE KFS KFS KFS QSX 12 M --- [not copied] AR K``. (I overlooked the other one, 17026.0, which is not on their weekly sked.)

0040, one more check of KPH frequencies, yes on 17016.8, 12808.5, presumed 8642.0 and maybe 6477.5. It`s not clear how late into the night of nights this last (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5129.96, 7490.06. 9329.89, July 13 at 0018 I measure all WBCQ frequencies, as I had noticed the lowest a bit higher than usual .83, and the highest had been on the plus side of 9330 for quite some time until a day or two ago. The middle has been fairly stable close to here on its plus side.. At least 7 and 9 waver a bit. This was on the NRD-545, which reads out to 10 Hz but not 1 Hz.

A few minutes later at 0058, I remeasure on the R-75: 5129.973, 7390.070, 9329.889. In both cases my method is to tune BFO 200 or 300 Hz to the low side, then find where I hear the same pitch on the high side, split the difference, add or subtract correxion factor, and voilà. So in this case I come up with 13, 10 and 1 Hz disparities, some of which could be due to station drift over 40 minutes (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9395, July 13 at 0200, WRMI music fill after BB ID, and 0200.5 `Wavescan` theme starts, so maybe it really is on 7 days a week now at this time; frequency lacking on the websked, but this is it, only, since much weaker 5950 splits away for an hour of legacy Fámily Radio. WS has bumped R. Tirana relay half an hour later to 0230, as confirmed by my monitoring, first on July 6. The frequency websked now has moved Tirana to 0230, showing Oldies at 0200 instead of Wavescan. The program websked by System also shows Tirana at 0230 on System H 9395, but still has Oldies at 0230 on System G also on 9395 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Initial time was missing from this, now inserted:
5050, 0118 UT Sunday July 8, WWRB is S9+35 with horrible hum, distortion, and unstable carrier, spurs out to 5070, in some kind of talkshow; not rechecked until 0149 when it`s off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** YEMEN [non]. 11860, July 12 at 2347, VP signal as I`m checking RHC for second-order +20 kHz spur out of 11840, but not //. I can hear a bit of chanting. Must be the Sa`udi-backed faux Republic of Yemen Radio, which used to be listenable after sunrise here, but not in a longtime at anytime. Aoki shows it from Jeddah at 0856-0657. Nothing else but China/Tibet on 11860 with overlap between 0130 and 0900 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
