Glenn Hauser logs September 3-4, 2016

** AUSTRALIA. 12065, Sept 4 at 1247, R. Australia no signal here, while 12085 and 9580 are OK; the transmitter to PNG which should also be on 15415 the other semiday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRELAND [non]. 15320, Sunday Sept 4 at 1655, VP signal with English talk, which would be the special RTE relay via SOUTH AFRICA. I almost forgot about it since advance publicity came thru weeks ago, but Eamonn O`Connor in Ireland reminded us circa 1600 on the BDXC-UK yg: ``Subject: [BDXC-UK] rte relay to Africa NOW on 15320 kHz --- GAA hurling Final now being relayed to Africa on 15320 kHz - Eamonn in Dublin``

There`ll be another one at 13-17 UT in two weeks, Sept 18 for a football final. Seems there is only one frequency this year, unlike past years (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NETHERLANDS [non]. 9925, UT Sun Sept 4 at 0150, the Mighty Farty KBC with no signal via Germany; not checked earlier but I suppose this week it was back to only one hour from 0000. From next week publicized S-season change to 6145, where it is not now either (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** RUSSIA [and non]. 7245, Sept 4 at 1230, JBA AM carrier --- while NZ remains on its QSY to 7425, so what`s this? Now confronting the US Navy ham net on LSB. The answer maybe just in from Sei-ichi Hasegawa: R. Rossii has reactivated not only 5900 but also 7245 and 9895:

``9895/7245/5900 kHz R. Rossii
http://radio.chobi.net/DX/bbs/?res:1330#1576
S.Hasegawa``

But that indicates only one transmitter/frequency at a time:
``*????-0700*  7245kHz
*0700-1000*  9895kHz
*1000-1500*  5900kHz, 810kHz(fade in)``

So my 7245 could instead be V. of Tajik, scheduled this hour in Arabic per Aoki and WRTH, but not in HFCC --- is it really active? Always a very tough catch here. CNR2 Beijing also on 7245 after 1300 per Aoki.

5900, Sept 4 at 1236, JBA carrier, S3.5 and can`t make out any modulation, but this is being widely reported as R. Rossii reactivated, from somewhere in the Far East, as it puts a bigsig into Japan. Countless imaginary RR registrations remain in HFCC, including 5900 as ``Khabarovsk`` at 10-14 UT --- but Wolfgang Büschel points out the SW site near there has already been dismantled. So he says,

``5900 kHz location could be Iakutsk Tulagino; or Radio Rossii Kamchatka via the Yelizovo site; or Radio Rossii Arman/Magadan in far northern Siberia`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SIKKIM. 4835, Sept 4 at 1220, JBA carrier detectable in splatter of prolonged 4840 WWCR [q.v.], presumably AIR Gangtok, unless someone report Australia reactivated today. No VL8 carriers audible now on 2325 or 2485. Other JBA carriers indicating INDIA are there on 4760, 4970, 5010 at least (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 4875-USB, Sept 4 at 1223, Air Force MARS net, all weak signals, one call maybe AFA5LJ, not certain of the number. Fortunately is one tropical 60mb frequency lacking any broadcasters, not even the Iranian clandestines via Turkmenistan? which survive only in Aoki listings (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1841 monitoring: NOT confirmed, Saturday September 3 at 2230 on WBCQ 9330v-CUSB, as it is not on the air (but back after 2300: see WBCQ log). Confirmed, UT Sunday September 4 at 0335 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, Missouri during the Indonesia/KGI item 14 minutes into show, so started at about 0322. Next:
Sun 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Mon 0030   WRMI 7730 to WNW
Mon 0300v  WBCQ 5130v Area 51 to WSW
Mon 0330   WRMI 9955 to SSE
Mon 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Tue 1100   WRMI 9955 to SSE
Tue 2130   WRMI 15770 to NE [we hope resumed after 3 weeks]
Tue 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Wed 1315.5 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Wed 2100   WBCQ 7490v to WSW
Wed 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9330v-CUSB, Sept 3 at 2340, WBCQ is on (unlike an hour ago when WOR is scheduled), with oldtime radio drama. This would be Tom Cole Theatre, ``new`` episode about cats, as previewed on Allan Weiner Worldwide for Sat 2300, with repeats coming up at various times on Wed/Thu/Fri, as in my previous report (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 4840, Sept 4 at 1220, WWCR-3 is still on with gospel huxter, so evidently has lengthened its span by an hour, altho still has not updated transmitter schedule since August 31, when it was until 1200*. The pdf program guide, however, is now dated Sept 1, but also shows change to 13845 still at 1200 UT on weekends with University Network, which I did not recognize as what was on 4840. Maybe a mistake: hope so, as it impedes upon 4835 with Sikkim or Australia (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 15240, Sunday Sept 4 at 1631, poor signal in presumed Luganda talk, i.e. WWRB carrying R. Munansi clandestine. Seems they are playing less music these days (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Re my log of 1170, WWVA, OH, Alan Furst, Kansas City, replies: ``Glenn, I'm pretty sure you are right about logging WWVA. We used to hear then KVOO on the studio monitors in Wheeling when WWVA was off for maintenance back in the 70s. I've only logged WWVA as far west as Indianapolis. We were told it would interfere pretty badly with Tulsa if left on day pattern. WWVA continues the 'God Block' during evenings. Big money maker.`` Worth further checking west of Wheeling (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VANUATU [and non]. 7260-, Sept 4 at 1232, double JBA carriers making two-tone het with offset BFO, lower one being signature of R. Vanuatu, the upper one being Ulan Bator and/or Xinjiang (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VIETNAM [non]. 7315, UT Sun Sept 4 at 0151, VOV is on via WHRI in Spanish, mailbag responding to listeners in Cuba, El Salvador, Argentina with plaudits for the station. El Sal is impressed by hearing a station from the other worldside, evidently not aware it`s really direct from South Carolina, and VOV does not clue him in. Super-patriotic comments relating to independence day. No carrier dropoffs during my brief monitorage, so did it manage to stay on for the entire two hours from 0000 tonight? I was busy mowing and recovering from mowing so no earlier monitoring session.

It appears that all overseas relays except WHRI have been dropped, as still nothing on 12005 or 6175 which might have been Woofferton. Kai Ludwig reports:

``A diplomatic explanation has been given in this show, amongst all the quotations from always the same handful of DXers whose names are quoted up and down the German service mailbag programmes around the world nowadays:
http://vovworld.vn/de-DE/Briefkastensendung/Briefkastensendung-vom-24082016/464262.vov

"Some research in various target countries", aha. Must be hinting at audience research that proved only minuscule, or just "below threshold", audiences for these relays, not justifying the considerable expenses anymore. In case it has been overlooked: It turns out that anything but WHRI 0000-0200 on new 7315 and their own Son Tay transmissions is gone. Kai`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1499.17, Sept 4 at 0559 UT, the off-frequency carrier hetting KSTP 1500 is still audible. This time I try to DF it with the DX-398, and get ESE/WNW (which is helpfully close to the KSTP null). Forget about WNW – there aren`t any 1500s that way. Most likely are six stations in Alabama and Georgia, 1 kW daytimers except for one 5 kW daytimer, and one fulltime with 3 watts at night. Or further afield, TN, SC, MS and FL stations. A DF fix on this from north/east America would be helpful (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9710, Sept 4 at 0604, fair signal with open carrier, quickly goes off. Nothing scheduled, but best guess is Radio Habana Cuba which is nominally on 9710 only at 11-14 & 21-04 per Aoki (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 11435-USB, Sept 4 at 1308, presumed Indonesian QSO pirates in 2-way, fairly good signals, and somewhat musical altho no outright singing heard. Usually there are a bunch of others in the 11.4`s at 5-kHz intervals, but not this time (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 11980, Sept 4 at 1304, whine here at S4, and a bigger whine on 11930 at S9, altho of different pitches. Something going on from Cuban jammers? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 15550-USB, Sept 4 at 1631, very weak signal sounds like English; could it be WJHR ex-15555, where not heard? More like 2-way with pauses. R. Dabanga is through with 15550 via Vatican at 1627 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
