Glenn Hauser logs April 15-16, 2016

** ALBANIA. 9855-, April 16 at 0121 already, R. Tirana IS attaining S8. I see some lists still have 0130 English on 9850, as earlier tentatively planned for A-16 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 15140, April 15 at 1803, RHC in Kriyol to Khicago, so it has failed to broadcast on the wrong HM01 spy frequency, 16180 like it did yesterday. Keep 16180 in mind in case 15140 be AWOL again.

11840, April 15 at 2118, RHC is S9+10 but just barely modulated in *English* which is not supposed to be on any frequency during this hour! Correct TC by ``Ed Newman`` as ``coming up on 19 past the hour``. Still JBM English at 2149. Next check at 2210: 11840 is JBM in French and now // & synchro with scheduled 11880.

Unknown what 11840 contain for a while until next check UT April 16 at 0022: now it`s Kriyol, awful undermodulation and hum, and // clear and much louder 5040. 0052, it`s finally in Spanish but quite suptorted, and no one would listen to this rather than a semidozen parallels. Yes, RHC A-16 schedule shows 11840 is supposed to be nothing but Spanish from 21 to 05, 250 kW, 170 degrees from Quivicán.

17730, April 16 at 0017, RHC is still in French instead of Quechua, with horrible clipped modulation, but rock steady S9 signal (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GREECE. 9935.00, April 16 at 0026, ERT buzz/whine mixed with music, and 9420 is off! Fortunately, by 0122, more music from VOG is VG on 9420, loud & clear S9+25 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GUINEA. 9650, April 15 at 2350 tune-in, rather repetitive vocal and instrumental African music at S8, from something new. At 2359 some different instrumental music and announcement in French, but cannot recognize any ID.

Onward into UT April 16 0002: now all talk discussion mentioning ``organisation --- islamique``; 0006 different voice on phone, ``fondation islamique --- humanitaire``, 0007 bit of music, more talk, interview past 0017 tune-out. Back at 0024, now nice African music for rest of hour at various chex, 0048 past 0102 with no ID, no break at all, 0117+.

One report suggested this was Central African Republic reactivated on an old frequency, but 9650 is rather an old frequency of Guinea, meanwhile DXed by several DXLD yg members, including Sakae Obara, NJ, who made this ID recording to clinch it as Radio Guinée:
Its other old frequencies which might also reappear are 4900, 6155, 7125, 15310, as in WRTH 1994. It`s been many years since Guinea quit SW, when?

9650 may be on the air 24 hours; main CCI would be R. Sonder Grense, RSA at 07-17 as in HFCC & EiBi, or is it 08-16 as in Aoki? While UAE and Oman HFCC entries may be dismissed as imaginary. The rest, only from Aoki & EiBi: 0730-1320 & 2130-2420, VOK in Japanese (but none of that audible before 0020 here) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

The SWBC scene is really hopping now in Africa. WRTH 2016 says CAR does plan to reactivate this year, its ex-SW frequencies being 5035 and 7220 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR [and non]. 17640, April 15 at 1803 and 1832 chex, no signal from Madagascar World Voice, one of the ``African Pathways`` hours in English originally heard well at the beginning of A-16. They had reactivated earlier UT April 15 for 00, 01 and 04 UT transmissions, but apparently not completely back yet. 17855 Spain e.g. is coming in well enough at this time. Subsequent language frequencies from MWV not checked until:

9600, April 15 at 2357, JBA carrier; April 16 at 0009 now S4, very poor with talk; by 0034 I can make out some English at S4, about J.C. and alleged eternal life, so it is MWV, one of the English hours, but is it the KNLS clone, or the African Pathways one? Goes off at 0058 during a song, just in time as WHRI is firing up 9605 for Corea relay.

9665 is the next scheduled frequency for MWV, and I can tell it cuts on at *0058:30.5 when a LAH appears under Voz Missionária, Brasil which until now has been in the clear, and measured at 0026 on 9664.94. MWV is so weak & close that I really can`t pinpoint it on which side of the ZY. This hour is supposed to be the KNLS English version to South Asia.

9480.0, April 16 at 0413, MWV English is much better than last night, S9+10, and would be more than fair if I had turned off local noise sources yet (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6925.0-USB, April 16 at 0109, C&W music, pause, during which I explore the peskie QRM on 6925-LSB, then another tune. This is S9 like 6915-AM allegedly 100 kW WRMIBS but 6925 is *much* louder; as my streetlite ignites at 0112, 6925 music is interrupted, 0116 changes to looping distortion. No announcements or IDs heard, but this thread
says it`s Pee Wee Radio, IDed only by an SSTV image of a lady in a see-thru bra with that ID inscribed on her chest. Has Pee Wee heard about WWRB`s inducement? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** THAILAND. 15590, April 16 at 0019, very poor S2 signal, presumably R. Thailand, HSK9, English to eastern North America, where maybe it come in better than here, but it`s totally transpolar (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1821 monitoring: checking WRMI 13695 from 2059 UT Friday April 15, oh oh, no ID and Brother keeps on Scaring past 2100 and 2115, and also on weaker 15770, both of which at 2100 should have cut to System D and F other programming, including WOR a semihour later.

So this time I notify WRMI ASAP, and they do get both back in whack by 2128 with music, and WOR starting nominally at 2130 on 15770, 2130.5 on 13695. I unusually relisten to the entire 13695 broadcast and it`s complete & intact; however, there is some crackling on the signal but not interrupting the modulation. WOR 1821 also confirmed Fri April 15 at 2351 check during the 2329+ broadcast on WBCQ 9330.11-CUSB, S9+5. Next:

BTW, Tim Gaynor of Unique Radio tells me, April 14: ``Hi Glenn, just updating you on Unique Radio's antenna. It's been put up. It's a halfwave for 3210 kHz between two poles (about 30 metres in height) facing northwest and southeast, with tuning well under 1.2:1, so hopefully the signal should go further, especially at night`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7730, April 16 at 0038, WRMI in well playing that song about Allah, during a scheduled `World Music` hour, breaking away from the stronger and weaker BS on 7570, 7780 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5129.74-AM, April 15 at 2352, WBCQ talk is under the S9+5 storm noise level, unreadable, but it must be the new show AW mentioned for 2345 Fridays, `Smart Money Guy`.

7489.9, UT Sat April 16 from 0000, WBCQ with `Allan Weiner Worldwide`, and AW himself is back on this week. Says his main topic will be about taxes, and how unfair they are, reading something from a Maine newspaper, and later the NYT; and allowing phone calls from the usual suspects to interrupt him. // 5129.74-AM follows several seconds later, but is too noisy to listen to, altho improved a bit by an hour later (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5050, April 15 at 2351, UT Saturday April 16 at 0009 and 0044 chex, no signals from WWRB, so the Friday night `Pirates` Cove` Dave was promoting has not yet eventuated. Has he had any takers? At 0044, no other WWRB signals are to be heard on 9370, 3185, 3195 or 3215, so there may be some other reason for the silence (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9265, April 16 at 0045, one station in English, modulation somewhat distorted, about suppression of Christians in Africa and Mideast. 0123, still one gospel huxter, presumed only WINB; no sign of a second station CCI as Rumen Pankov once heard (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6947.40, April 16 at 0039, open AM carrier/dead air at S9+25, maybe not a pirate. Now that we know what the carrier on 6993 is, what`s this? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 11980.430, April 15 at 2119, open carrier, maybe trace of modulation? Like I heard earlier today ``11980.4275 approx., April 15 at 1310``, but now nothing on 11980.0 to het it. Still there at 2200, but off by 2209 check. On the R-75 I had suspected it was a nearby local device, but now I can tell it is fading S8 to S5. Hearing ~same exact frequency at such diverse dayparts is also strange, but other behavior smax of Cairo or some other grossly defective station.

But no Cairo or anything else in the Big 3 lists to account for this. EiBi does show the Ukrainian unofficial station off-frequency plus:
``11980.1 0600-0830 SaSu  UKR Radio Dniprovska Hvylya UK UKR z``
but on a very limited schedule, and WRTH 2016 shows it as only 250 watts, and AM+USB. Turkey is on 11980 at 04-06 in Turkish, so we should at least check if that`s off-frequency like this: April 16 at 0415, JBA wobbly carrier is slightly off, typical of TRT, but not so much: 11980.025. It could also be a utility intruder (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
