Glenn Hauser logs February 14-15, 2016

** COLOMBIA [and non]. 6010.26v, Feb 15 at 0445, romantic music on carrier slightly wobbling; at 0457 recheck it`s more like 6010.21v, song in Spanish. 0501 auto timecheck and ID, but all I can catch is a website including colombia.com. By 0644 it`s back up to 6010.27v: La Voz de tu Conciencia. No sign of R. Inconfidência, Brasil, which when active is off-frequency from 6010 too but not so variable. (XEOI México is long gone from 6010 and lamented, and of course preserved in the Aoki list to confound the unaware.)

Nothing from the other HJDH on 5910.05, only a JBA carrier at 0445 on 5910.00, i.e. NHK Russian, 100 kW, 79 degrees via LITHUANIA at 0430-0500 only. And at 0643, only TWR Polish, IS via AUSTRIA, which is to be deleted in A-16 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 11880, Sun Feb 14 at 2145, RHC is on here with VG signal in Esperanto! But cuts off at 2158 during contemporary item about the RCC/Russodox encounter in Havano; dead air until 2200 IS and opening English. According to
11880 at 2130 is supposed to be in Portuguese to Africa, and presumably is still so Mon-Sat. Esperanto remains absent from their sked at 2130, instead at 2230 Sundays replacing French on 17730 (or rather if you read it literally, BOTH at same time as it does not say Mon-Sat only for French). I was thinking that was still on 15370, but 15370 is in Spanish at 2257 check, so did not try 17730. Could be that 11880 speaking Esperante was merely a switching mistake (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GERMANY [non]. 12025, Feb 15 at 0424, S8 signal in African-accented English with ``good mornings``, dialog; // 9800 same level but an echo apart. 12025 is DW via MADAGASCAR, 250 kW at 300 degrees also USward; 9800 is 250 kW, 19 degrees from SOUTH AFRICA, not USward (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDIA. 4895.0, Feb 15 at 1334, JBA carrier here, not 4896.0, so AIR Kurseong presumably back on-frequency today unlike Feb 12 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1812 monitoring: confirmed UT Monday Feb 15 at 0030 on WBCQ 9330v-CUSB, JBA. Also confirmed UT Mon Feb 15 at midpoint 0422, so must have started late at 0406 on Area 51 via WBCQ 5109.7-CUSB, S9+20. Also2 confirmed UT Mon Feb 15 at 0430 on WRMI 9955, S8. Next:
Tue 0030   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Tue 1200   WRMI 9955 to SSE
Wed 0030   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Wed 1415.5 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Wed 2200   WBCQ 7490v to WSW
Thu 0030   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 9700, Feb 15 at 0453 tune-in, very pleased to hear the old TRT IS, 26 notes on keyboard, which I thought they had deleted. It`s no longer aired between foreign language services, but this is prior to the Turkish service. IS is constantly repetitive, rather than the previous version on piano which used to play multiple variations, a real treat. Alternating with IDs in Turkish, signal varying around S8. Only hear it for two minutes, but maybe started earlier; 0455 cut to choral NA, 0456 sign-on. So per WRTH 2016, other times we might hear it prior to multi-hour VOT Turkish broadcasts are:
<0100 6000="" div="">
<0500 9820="" also="" div="">
<0700 11925="" 15350="" 15480="" div="">
<1400 11815="" div="">
<1700 5980="" 6120="" div="">
Or maybe not, as Turkish is continuous on one frequency or another from 0500 to 2200, so the IS could be before morning sign-on only?
The other ones toward W Europe, and hence N America beyond, are 15350, 11815, 5980, but propagationally 9700 before 0500 is by far best for us. Expected to improve into spring, but in A-seasons this broadcast opens an hour earlier at 0400 on 11980 instead, which is also reliable in summer (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 213 kHz, Feb 15 at 0655 UT, CFV beacon. MARE Log Summary shows: ``212 CFV +1.02 offset, Coffeyville KS, Municipal A/P; 18 Oct (DT)``. DXing NDBs is something I have not pursued much yet, as I don`t think I have suitable LW antennas; this on the R-75 with same E/W 100` longwire as for MF and HF (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 2660.04, Feb 15 at 0505 UT, harmonic music reaches S6, so with a bit more time and strain might be able to re-ID it as KGLD, Tyler TX, 2 x 1330.02 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 3908-LSB, Feb 15 at 0511, AA8KB is trying to run a net, but continually interrupted by calls over and over (recorded?) from ``W6WBJ calling Commie Mike`` (? Sounds like that), with variations, says he wants ``to become a full member of the Worfa(?) net/group``. Others try to check in and ignore this ``jammer``, including KF7BXH, KJ6KNK?. Lots of others in pileups.

I still consult the final April 2007 edition of John Norfolk`s `Nets2You`` which used to be published at worldofradio.com (John resigned and hasn`t been heard from since). According to that:

``0400 3908 AMATEUR RADIO FRIENDSHIP ASSOCIATION (Western US) Monday, Wednesday, Friday [Affiliated with OMIK]``

And this is Monday, so they must be saying ``Arfa``. QRZ.com shows:

AA8KB USA flag USA
MICHAEL A LA BOND
1020 County Line
Watervliet, MI 49098

W6WBJ is not in QRZ.com but refers us to FCC database:
CROWELL, WILLIAM F
1110 PLEASANT VALLEY RD
DIAMOND SPRINGS, CA 95619

It seems that renewal of his license has been held up since 2007: See pleadings:
He`s been in big trouble with the FCC for a long time, but still transmitting, appealing.

KF7BXH USA flag USA
Mervyn F ``Butch`` Davis
1111 University Ridge Dr
Reno, NV 89512 USA

Meanwhile, other screwed up 80m frequencies include: 3843-LSB, 0637 UT Feb 15 talking about Finecum, the ``tarp-man`` who was later killed in the Oregon standoff; vs the ``oink-oink`` guy. And 3840-LSB with jamming by fart(?) sounds. Kinda makes one proud not to be a ham (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5985, UT Mon Feb 15 at 0447, S9+30, WRMI fill music of oud, 0448 mbira with vocal. `Blues Radio International` is supposed to be on 5985 at 0430-0500 Mondays (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1430, Feb 15 at 1352 UT, ``Golden Oldies 14-30, KZQZ`` several IDs, apparent slogan change from ``Cool Oldies`` as in NRC AM Log 2015-2016, by DJ a.k.a ``Ambassador of Rock `n` Roll``, 1355 UT into news. On 50 kW day power, St Louis MO station remains dominant on skywave here, still VG as late as 1416 UT, almost an hour after our sunrise, instead of Tulsa (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1520, Feb 15 at 1359 UT, ``1520 KYND with Joe Walsh`` (?), country music continues. Hearing this over KOKC without even trying to null it, and both are close to same azimuth from here (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1540.04, Feb 15 at 1359 UT, checking for KGBC, the other ex-CRI relayer, after just hearing 1520 KYND. Yes, here it is making usual lo het from hi side, vs KXEL; soliciting advertising calls to 713-868-5559, a ``Siga Broadcasting`` station, ``AM 1540, KGBC, Galveston``. 1403 UT recheck already into a talk show, anti-Hillary. Interviewee seems named Sean (but not Hannity, I assume); now it`s also hetting KEDA 1540 San Antonio TexMex music, but mostly separable. 1411 UT into a ``short break`` in program name ending in ``Times``, financial ads; 1415 UT finally resuming show, but too much CCI now; 1419 UT has faded out? Not quite, 1421 UT now interviewing Elliot re financial matters. KGBC is 2.5/0.25 kW U4, and I also hear its het at night. Day pattern favors the north, and has no trouble leapfrogging the 32 kW Metroplex 1540, KZMP, with its tight E-W pattern (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** YEMEN [non]. 11860, Feb 15 at 0425, JBA carrier, presumably Rep. of Yemen R., from somewhere; no comparison to the big S9+10 to S9+20 signal we get from somewhere (else?) a dekahour later, such as 1345-1505+ Feb 15 with usual theme music and Arabic exhortations (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1500, Feb 15 at 0438 UT, the warbling het against KSTP is still here, roughly from east. Les Rayburn from Alabama has offered to visit towns in Tennessee it might be coming from, but we ought to be able to pinpoint this without such drastic measures.

1500, Feb 15 at 0523 UT, hearing both the warblehet, and the blues station, latter presumably KCLF New Roads LA.

1500, Feb 15 at 1350 UT, the warble is still audible, one semi-hour after sunrise here, indicating it is not too far east into the dayside --- and still at 1416 UT. (1430 St Louis, q.v. still has a bigsig on skywave also as late as 1416 UT with 50 kW). I try to DF the warble again, and seems closer to E/W, 90 degrees than previous estimate of 95 degrees. Prime suspect is now WPOT Trenton TN (Jackson area), 250/6 watts, but two closest 1500s to it are KDFN Doniphan MO, 1000 watt daytimer, and WMJL Marion KY, 175 watt daytimer: WMJL is the one closest to the 170 degree bearing by Tom Jasinski from Joliet IL. (BTW, my nearest 1500, KPGM Pawhuska OK, 500 watt daytimer is also east of here, but not heard yet this morning, and no sign of the warble on it in full daytime) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5959.95, Feb 15 at 1335, off-frequency carrier with trace of music. Could someone around Urumqi or via SDR confirm whether it`s merely East Turkistan ~50 Hz below 5960 or something more exotic? (Like a reactivated Radio Fly, PNG?) On other occasions around same time I`ve heard a carrier on-frequency here (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
