Glenn Hauser logs June 16-17-18, 2015 [MORE!]

** BRAZIL. 11710 & 11745 & 11815 & 11850, June 18 at 0539, crackling spurs from 11780.1v RNA/RNB are worse than usual, as evidenced by audibility around 11850 and bothering 11855 R. Aparecida. 11780 itself is distorted and carrier wobbly (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. My first sporadic-E TVDX this season from the north, despite my antenna being stuck toward the SSE and thus favoring Mexico (which I was getting earlier June 16), all analog, all times UT June 17:

0046 on 2, fade-in football game, with ads in English for Tim Horton, Coca-Cola supporting women in sports, so Canada instead of Mexico. Then half-time show during a FIFA game with clips featuring Nigerian players. Local.ca website which leads to TV skeds all over Canada, reveals this is on the CTV network as in Ontario, current game Nigeria vs USA in women`s soccer; 0057 SPORTCHEX ad; 0100 game resumes with women players, from Vancouver. 0135 another fade in and traces of video around 0200. 6m map shows MUF 94 MHz centered over Illinois. This is presumed CHBX in Sault Ste Marie Ont., altho there are three other further lower-powered CTVs allegedly still not DTV in Sask and Alta.

After 3.5 hours of FM DX mostly from South and North Carolina, later UT June 17:

1811 on 2, fade-in algo in English; 1819 ads in English mention Canada; 1822 ``celebrate Elliott Lake`s 60th anniversary``, i.e. Ontario town halfway between Sudbury and Sault Ste Marie, but off the main drag of the Trans-Canada Highway (I figured it would be older than that; it once had a low-band CKSO Sudbury TV repeater of its own. One website reveals: ``The City's modern story began in 1953 when the famous Backdoor Staking Bee that rivalled the Klondike Gold Rush put Elliot Lake on the worldwide map with the discovery of a massive, rich uranium ore body``. Now E.L. is being promoted as a retirement community and vacation destination). So I conclude this is again CHBX SSM.

Followed at 1822 by the ``Channel 590 community calendar`` --- assuming that refers to a MW frequency, the closest Canadian would be CJCL in Toronto, but it`s SportsNet and hardly likely to stray into a small-town-like community calendar (a closer but not close enough 590 is in Ironwood MI, but at the very western tip of the UP). There are two much further 590 Canadians: CJCW, Sussex NB ``Your Community, Your Radio Station``, and VOCM, St John`s NL, but no likely analog 2s around there which would require double-hop Es.

1825 on 2, Dr Oz, which chex for CHBX at 2-3 pm EDT. After this for a few hours I am producing WORLD OF RADIO 1778, and by 2220 retune, it`s back to TVDX from MEXICO, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 9570, June 18 at 1249, CRI Cantonese relay is instead dead air. Sometime after 1300, CRI English is audible but quite undermodulated (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. Sporadic E TVDX, June 16, all analog, all times UT:

1500 on 2, fade-in Televisa 5 net bug in LR with animation dubbed into Spanish; still/again at 1519

1524 on 2, Televisa Deportes promo for Copa on Canal 5 net

1559 on 2, fade in again, still animation, net-5 bug LR

1629 on 2, amid CCI, f bug in LR, which is Televisa net-4

1650 on 2, still CCI

1651 on 2, talk show, f bug in LR

1653 on 2, +v MAS VISION full screen animated logo, and fútbol promo, i.e. XEWO-TV Guadalajara

1727 on 2, algo, one guy on screen

1729 on 2, +v MAS VISION ID again

1730 on 2, U bug in LR, i.e. UNIVISION, but probably via some Televisa station in Mexico rather than LPTV from Florida or double-hop from Nicaragua

1800 on 2, AZTECA full screen, unknown whether net-7 or 13

1817 on 2, unknown bug in LR, perhaps with clock and temp. Nothing more this afternoon until 0046 June 17 when for a change I`m getting CANADA, q.v.

June 17:

2220 on 2, tune-in, algo in Spanish, also on 4 (CANADA, q.v., had been in earlier today before I paused for WORLD OF RADIO produxion)

2225 on 4, swirl bug in LR; in LL EXCLUSIVA / GALA TV

2239 on 4, 5 bug in LR

2305 on 2, film drama, dubbed Spanish

2321 on 2, Simpsons amid CCI

June 18 UT:

0117 on 2, Simpsons, still! Nothing more tonight
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NEW ZEALAND. 11725, June 18 at 0542 check, RNZI is AWOL yet again (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 740, June 18 at 1319, KRMG with flood warnings around Tulsa, ID only as ``News 102-3 KRMG`` so I expect the useless 50 kW AM station to be demolished any minute now (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 94.3, June 17 at 1526, while tuning for Es DX, notice that local KLGB-LP Enid has buzz on main carrier and louder buzzy spurs on 94.1 and 93.5 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. Earthquake report: June 17 at 1917:35 UT as I am resting on bed, it shakes for a few seconds (and no one else is around). USGS later confirms this was a 4.2, at 20 km west of Perry, 5 km deep, at 1917:08 UT, so a ~27 second delay to reach Enid (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SUDAN [non]. 13800, June 18 at 0546, R. Dabanga via VATICAN is fair, and no jamming for a change (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 11870, June 18 at 0541, no signal from WEWN Spanish, but 11520 English is very poor (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1280, June 18 at 1331 UT, no signal from KSOK Arkansas City KS, semi-local C&W station. Maybe I`ll finally hear Poteau OK? Not today. Still off at 1750 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Finally some FM DX this summer by sporadic E. Others have reported several openings, but the first one I have caught, using DX-398 or ATS-909 (when RDS is captured), or PL-880, all with rod antennas only, but possibly assisted by signals bouncing off my mast-mounted TV antenna not far away; June 17, all times UT:

1432 on 88.3, gospel rock songs fade in and out, also 1438

1439 on 88.3, RDS shows KNOWS which I assume is part of a title rather than a call sign. Then YL & YL chat, referring to myjourneyfm.com which converts to
and this station in the WTFDA FM Database:

WRVL 88.3 LYNCHBURG VA 50.0 42.0 330.0 330.0 37.1150 79.2107
THE JOURNEY 88.3 RELIGION

However, they have another similar station with reversed call-letters:

WVRL 88.3 ELIZABETH CITY NC 50.0 50.0 136.0 136.0 36.1840 76.1734
THE JOURNEY 88.3 RELIGION

Another fade in at 1501 got only a partial ID, so still not positive which one it was.

1503 on 88.1, NPR News continues past 1504 optional cutaway when many stations insert local news, tsk; 1506 to `On Point` talk/call-in show

1520 on 88.1, static WRJA at left of 7-character RDS field, i.e.:
WRJA-FM 88.1 SUMTER SC 98.0 98.0 305.0 305.0 33.5252 80.1614 8276 WRJA  PS} South Carolina ETV SOUTH CAROLINA ETV RADIO NEWS/TALK

1521 on 88.5, hymn mixing with Diane Rehm, no RDS

1522 on 89.3, classical violin music; likely either WSCI Charleston SC or WTEB New Bern NC

1527 on 88.5, classical, likely WFDD Winston-Salem NC

1533 on 88.5, the dullest tones of Harold Camping, so Family Radio. WTFDA Database finds very likely source in PTA:

WFCH 88.5 CHARLESTON SC 29.5 29.5 93.0 93.0 32.4904 79.5008 FAMILY RADIO RELIGION
But there is another in the southeast:
WMFL 88.5 FLORIDA CITY FL 7.7 7.7 52.0 52.0 25.1931 80.2416 FAMILY RADIO RELIGION

1554 on 88.1, WRJA fade-in again with RDS, `On Point`

1630 on 88.3, K-LOVE on RDS --- not local, none listed in OK or KS, so how about NC/SC? Only fit there is:

WLXK //WRCM 88.3 BOILING SPRINGS NC 50.0 50.0 92.0 92.0 35.1352 81.4257 7414 - 'WLXK' Song/Artist-K-LOVE Song/Artist-K-LOVE
Soft Rock K-LOVE CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN

1704 on 88.1, WRJA RDS, NPR News

1704 on 88.5, NPR news running several seconds behind 88.1; WFDD?

1706 on 88.1, WRJA RDS, starts `Here & Now`

1714 on 88.3, rock, singing ID sounds like WIFK? Looking thru the entire 88.3 roster, I find nothing closer than WLXK as above in NC

1718 on 88.1, WRJA on RDS, string of NPR program promos, tagged with times, but no station references

1754 on 88.3, ad for romarelementary.com in NC --- but searching finds this is really in East Point (Atlanta) GA, an all-black(?) private academy.

1755 on 88.3, ad for Casting Crowns performance, Thursday at 7 pm, area code 540 mentioned. That`s for northern VA, but not Lynchburg. WRVL website calendar shows instead at 6 pm June 18, at First Baptist Church, Roanoke, which is in AC 540. After 1800 no more FM, but I am getting Canadian TV on 2 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VATICAN [non]. 15370, June 18 at 1256, YL in Russian, fair-good; 1257.5 bit of Hallelujah Chorus, R. Vatikan, i.e. violating Separation of Church and State via USG`s IBB Tinang, PHILPPINES relay. I await the fun as Commies in Cuba should cut on frequency any minute now: yes, SAH starts at *1258 with open carrier during VR`s ``L.I.C.`` and `Christus Vincit`` IS; 1259 RHC Spanish audio cuts on and off and on and off and on and off; 1300 Vatican is off but RHC continues cutting modulation off and on and off the air 1302*. BTW, when on, the RHC signal is not the usual blasting level here; much stronger on 15730 and even 15230 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
