Glenn Hauser logs August 20, 2014

** AUSTRALIA. 9580, Aug 20 at 1258, hosts of `The World` are signing off for the last time as the program is canceled (the TV news which used to be an hour at 1230-1330); YL says she will remain with ABC, anyway. Then lots of heavy promos, 1300 cut to ABC news theme and news. 1305 promo for `Science Now`, Saturday at 12 [noon?] on RN. 1306 open `The Daily Planet`, which is really a world-music show, not a newspaper of the air, also from ABCRN, focusing to start on a Canadian pianist; 1341 outro a Ukrainian medley on native instruments.

The RA schedule displayed here is still out of date, claiming `The World` is still on at 1230-1330 covering Indonesian elexions!
http://www.radioaustralia.net.au/international/radio/programschedule?tz=0&stream=asia

It shows `The Daily Planet` at 10-11 UT, described as ``a music program focused on interesting ideas, thoughtful responses, informed analysis and an international perspective. Presented by Lucky Oceans``. Could that be a pseudonym? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 12070, 11710, 9965 and 9315, Aug 20 at 0143, for the third night in a row, all four R. Cairo frequencies to the Americas are OFF, Spanish and Arabic. How about other transmissions? Would those closer to Cairo please check ASAP: sked from DX Re Mix, Bulgarian DX blog as of Mid-April; the question now is whether any of these are ``currently on``?

First reply from Ivo Ivanov at 1514 UT Aug 20 says:

(Glenn Hauser, Aug 20, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDONESIA. 9525.9, Aug 20 at 1300, pleased to hear some modulation along with the weak carrier from VOI, but it`s music instead of opening English hour; songs continue with occasional announcements in Japanese, 1304, 1309, 1312, 1317 so must be the 12-13 broadcast running way late. 1311 playing a cover of George Harrison`s ``Here & There & Everywhere``; finally at 1323 opening English with the three imaginary frequencies, program summary, 1324 news theme. Fading is heavy, and louder than the modulation level, so give up (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN. 12025, Aug 20 at 0144, VRII Spanish appears to be absent from this frequency again, maybe algo on 11760 under RHC, and very poor on 9860 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6925-USB, Aug 20 at 0145, ```Six Pack Beer`` song, good pirate signal, bet it`s WRR; 0148 announcement starting ``Guess what??``, rather incoherent due to beer or heavier booze?, and ``WRR – Whiskey Redneck Radio`` ID (I wonder how this is going over in Dallas?), ``transmitting in the name of the temple of the screamin` electron ---`` and usual stuff, long pause before another tune starts (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1530, Aug 20 at 0526 UT, Mexican music, and ``La Qué Buena`` dominating channel, KXTD Wagoner OK 5 kW daytimer still operating illegally at night. If this is accidental, one might wonder howcome there is any programming available when it is supposed to be totally off the air (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. 9955, Wed Aug 20 at 1240, WRMI with AWR Wavescan, feature read by Ray Robinson, then Jeff White bit of NASB speech about wildlife infesting Okeechobee; and Jeff reads feature about all the radio-related developments in the year 1908; CCI from Radio France International in Chinese via TAIWAN is annoying but generally underneath except during WRMI fades, but the ratio is worsening by the time S. Dollar begins his Bangladesh DX report, which combined with his accent make it unreadable, sorry. No reply from my second inquiry with a clip to the RFI frequency guy, who in July said he would get with Taiwan about it; in all August probably on vacation (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1734 monitoring: confirmed on WRMI, 9955, Wednesday August 20 after 1315, now fair and in the clear after CCI from France via Taiwan until 1300. It is however a tight squeeze below the constant RTTY on 9960, and above the Japanese ``kaze`` clandestines via Taiwan to North Korea on 9950. Next WOR airing: Wednesday 2100 on WBCQ, 7490v (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1680, Aug 20 at 0518 UT, national adstring including Truecar.com (?), 0519 US Tax Shelters, 0520 DISH network; 0522 finally ``Classic Country 16-80`` and back to music. Until then thought I might have had KGED from CA again. Deep fades, still unseems like full nite power of 1 kW ND from KRJO Monroe LA some 400 miles away (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1700, Aug 20 at 0516 UT, promo in English mentioning KEDA and Texas; that`s the 1540 Tejano station in San Antonio, and then on to IDs in English for The Metroplex Tejano here, ``Kick 1700``, KKLF. Are these stations related? Yes! Both licensed to Claro Communications, per FCC AM Query. Maybe they even simulcast except for local ads and announcements (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
