Glenn Hauser logs August 14, 2014

** AUSTRALIA. 11590, Aug 14 at 1414, RBA is playing ``Waltz of the Flowers``, but only a snippet (God forbid any SW station besides Romania should play complete classical music!), fair signal and then announcement with self-imposed echo for effect. Aoki shows daily at 1400-1430 it`s in Urdu (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA [and non]. 10000, Aug 14 at 1259, BPM ID in CW audible underneath WWVH full voice ID, and following WWV ID is very much weaker (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA [and non]. CNR1 jamming morning of August 14:

6970, August 14 at 1245, CNR1 jammer, very poor: haven`t heard it here in a long time. // 11785 an echo apart. Aoki shows 6970 is now a Sound of Hope relay of Radio Free Asia Mandarin and Cantonese, all the way from 2043 to 1700, 0.1 kW? Not audible at next check 1346.

In the 1240-1250 period, full bandscan finds no others from 7 to 19 MHz, except the 11, 13 and 15 MHz inbanders.

9280, August 14 at 1250, CNR1 jammer now here, fair // 11785. Had not noticed it a few minutes earlier. Aoki shows this is also because of a 0.1 kW SOH relay of RFA from 2055 to 1700.

11835, August 14 at 1417, CNR1 jammer poor with CCI, // 13830 but not synchronized, and weak 15570. Aoki shows 11835 is vs VOA Chinese via PHILIPPINES during this hour only.

16920, August 14 at 1420, CNR1 jammer fair-good // 11835; no other out-of-banders 12-18 MHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** HAWAII. 13282-USB, Aug 14 at 1336, VOLMET on poor signal, including SFO, SEATAC, LAX and Tropical Storm Julio, now far beyond Hawaii. It`s KVM70, Honolulu, scheduled at :25 and :55 past the hours, and must be done by :40 and :10 when JIA Tokyo takes over; frequency also shared with Hong Kong and Auckland. About equally poor signal from WSY70 New York on 13270-USB (Glenn Hauser,, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MALAYSIA. 11665, Aug 14 circa 1345, noted fair signal with music; wish I had paid closer attention, since Ron Howard reports this frequency is now carrying Radio Klasik, // 5964.69, instead of Wai FM (and the other back-to-Sarawak service on 9835, Sarawak FM, has also been replaced by peninsular Traxx FM, no longer on 7295 --- so now it`s in English!) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1650, Aug 14 at 0555 UT, open carrier, dead air obviously from KYHN Sallisaw, atop some weak Spanish, probably R. Luz, Denver, rather than ESPN Deportes, El Paso (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1734 monitoring: after gh WRMI ID, confirmed at 1230 UT Thursday August 14 on 9955 --- but almost equal level QRM from RFI in Chinese via TAIWAN, making a SAH, which has kept on this frequency despite our pleas a month ago to move plus or minus 10 where there would be no QRM to either. Here`s what it sounds like here at 1232, along with Cuban pulse jamming too in a second clip at 1236:
http://www.w4uvh.net/RFIWRMI2.mp3

At 0:53-1:14 into the clip I tune up to 9965, down to 9945 and back to 9955, proving that 9945 and 9965 are unoccupied. On behalf of all other WRMI programmers in the 11-13 UT collision --- Wavescan, Antena DX, Frecuencia al Día, Historias de Radio, Christ Gospel BC, Bible Commentary, Viva Miami, Reality in Jesus, Sound Doctrine, Moments in Bible Prophecy, Tell the World Ministry, Radio Prague, Buscando La Verdad, Antena DX, Angloparade, Campbell Ministries --- some of which are probably unaware of the problem, not monitoring like we do from within North America, we again request RFI to move! We can`t expect WRMI to move for these two hours only from its long-established and original 24-hour channel (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5985, Aug 14 I`m checking out the new WRMI-alternative programming block at 0430-0500, which is WRMI-2 at 222 degrees toward Mexico. That`s roughly 90 degrees away from Enidward, so only fair signal here, but sufficient with no QRM. Since it`s UT Thursday, the program is `Antena DX` from Panamá, but at 0435 or so has a contribution from Pedro Sedano in Spain who also appears on other Spanish DX shows. Later at 0453 there is another contributor from Spain with a feature about `Escucha Chile`, the overt R. Moscú program during the post-Allende era (killed Sept 11, 1973), as in Wikipedia,
http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escucha_Chile
``Habla Moscú, Escucha Chile, conocido simplemente como Escucha Chile, fue un programa de la Radio Moscú transmitido desde la URSS durante la dictadura de Augusto Pinochet entre 1973 y 1988.``

As shown on lines 125 & 126 of the WRMI graphic frequency schedule, this 5985 transmission, following the NHK Spanish relay at 0400-0430, is full of worthwhile programs six days a week: Mon, Historias de Radio; Tue, Blues Radio International; Wed, Trova Libre; Thu, Antena DX; Fri, Viva Miami & Acontecer Venezolano; Sat, Frecuencia al Día. And no Cuban jamming as infested on 9955 where all these also air at different times (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 15825, Aug 14 at 1304, WWCR is inbooming, obviously getting a sporadic-E boost, since without it, this frequency is JBA here, at 1 megameter, too close for F2 MUF. At 1430, I check the Es MUF map at
http://www.dxmaps.com/spots/map.php?Lan=E&Frec=MUF&ML=M&Map=NA&DXC=N&HF=N&GL=N
and it now shows 28 MHz over SE AR, not exactly on the way to Nashville, but close enough.

``News`` is in progress, reporting that the CDC has issued a travel advisory about ebola, concerning Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Yes, he said Ghana: doesn`t know the difference (spelling, pronunciation, geography?) between that and Guinea! Outro as IRN-USA Radio News, which is one of those extremely unprofessional free networks with a far-right and far-religious bias belovèd of gospel-huxter outlets.

Furthermore, this travel advisory is hardly news, out since at least Aug 1, but reaffirmed Aug 13 for those three countries correctly at:

(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1440, Aug 14 at 1219 UT mentions ``here in Quincy``, so WGEM sports in Illinois, but rotating soon finds another with livestock market report, ad with 303 area code, 963-number, so obviously KRDZ Wray CO on 5 kW day ND day pattern, official August sunrise being 1200 UT (Sept: 1230). Strangely, I am not hearing the usual dominator, Spanish gospel 50 kW KTNO, The Metroplex TX, not even dead air which it sometimes supplies. Then at 1227 UT there is some Spanish with a 970-AC phone --- but 970 includes Wray, one of the two CO ACs wrapping around Denver/Boulder area which keeps 303. So KRDZ mixes some Spanish too? Or did I mishear 972 which would be KTNO? Wray is right next to the KS/NE borders, a tri-state area (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
