Glenn Hauser logs April 15, 2014

** ALBANIA. 9845, April 15 at 0118, R. Tirana is on way early playing IS on fair-good signal prior to 0130 English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BANGLADESH. 15505, April 15 at 1359, BB IS is JBA, and as I strain to hear the timesignal, possibly only one second early but just too weak to be sure (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 13830, April 15 at 1355, Firedrake, very poor mixed with CNR1 jamming and/or target; none in the 12s, 14s or 16s, and in the 15s only the usual inbanders 15115, 15195, 15265.

17740, April 15 at 1402, CNR1 jammer with sounder, very poor, vs VOA Tibetan via Thailand this hour only (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 9550, April 15 at 0101 and later, no signal from RHC which per its own A-14 website schedule is supposed to be on in the evenings from 21 to 05 UT; OTOH, 11760, no longer listed during this time block, *is* on the air with VG signal // 11670 & 11840. Another excellent reason for a ``don`t you believe`` label on RHC schedule:
http://www.radiohc.cu/interesantes/estaticas/frecuencias
Perhaps Arnie had planned to move 11760 to 9550 due to the B-13 horrible QRM from Cairo, but which is no longer there. Another imaginary listing is for 13740 at 21-04.

5040, April 15 at 0104, RHC Spanish with big hum --- wiggle that patchcord! No such hum on // 6060, 6070, 9810-weak, 11670, 11760, 11840.

11840, speaking of which: April 15 at 0533, big open carrier/dead air, must be RadioCuba having failed to turn off this RHC transmitter, and *still* on at 0613, 0710 as I am up late for the Lunar eclipse. Supposed to run 21-05 to Chile, after 1930-2100 to Europe (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 9965, April 15 at 0112 *no* signal from Cairo. Arabic service with various whines and modulation defects has always had a bigsig here. It`s registered for 2300-2430 English, 0030-0430 Arabic from Abis. I figured there would be a wooden alternative in HFCC:
http://www.hfcc.org/data/schedbyfmo.php?seas=A14&fmor=ERU
but there is not for this transmission. We`ll see if 9965 come back.

9315, April 15 at 0112 meanwhile is still audible with good signal but suppressed modulation, supposedly Spanish, but sounds Arabic to me; and duplicate registration for 9720 is still absent after having been used all B-13, both also for 0200 sesquihour in suppressed English.

11710+ Cairo is still on making its big het with 11711- Argentina, April 15 at 0123 check (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) v CUBA

** IRAN. 9860, April 15 at 0119, poor signal in Spanish as I am hunting for Turkey, q.v. in Spanish supposed to be on 9870 and 9830 or 9770. It`s all about los Estados Unidos and Obama, mentioning the renuncia of the Secretaria de Salud, demonstrations in 40 US cities about immigration; refers several times to ``nuestro país`` without naming which. Certainly not VOA or R. Martí! Or RHC which is often obsessed with spinning news negatively about US. Clear enunciation. 0127 break for announcements and music, 0130 VIRI chimes and news theme, Spanish news finally about Iran instead. This is the three-hour Spanish transmission from 0020 via Kamalabad, thus no IS or Qur`an before this hourbottom (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MALAYSIA. Ron Howard, CA, confirms that my April 14 log of 9835 Sarawak FM was also what he was hearing on April 13: ``local Sarawak Qur'an recitation competition (Tilawah Al-Qur'an); competition with series of 10 minute reciting`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 580, April 15 at 0602 UT, Mexican NA in progress, multiverse choral version but softer, less strident than the usual ``MGG``. I was looking for one from the UT-6 zone and soon found this tuning up from 540; under WIBW CBS news, and with heavy 2 Hz SAH almost matching the beat of the music. Normally XEMU in Tamaulipas is the dominant signal, but it`s UT -5 and would have anthemed an hour earlier at its local midnight. Maybe XEMU is still an open carrier causing the SAH. 0106 NA finally ends, but now WIBW is restarting C2CAM with Willie Nelson musically blocking the full ID, yet I do manage to pull out an ``XEFI``, as expected, since it`s the only 580 XE currently in UT -6.

XEFI supposedly 700 watts at night from Chihuahua, Chihuahua (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NIGERIA. 15120-AM, April 15 at 0536, fair signal but dead air or possibly just barely modulated V. of Nigeria in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6925-USB, April 15 at 0540, poor signal with pirate saying we are also observing Passover tonight, Pepsi(?) ad, OTR clip of ``American Jewish Hour presents Yiddish melodies in swing``, neat but not much music; 0543 ``this is Eclipse Radio`` and next number, ``Moonlight over Naples``, will be the last, before he ``goes out to get hammered and watch the eclipse``. 0545 talking over that music with another ID, mentioning Chris Smolinski, 0547 ``this has been Eclipse Radio, perhaps again during the next eclipse``, and off. Please QSL.

Chris in Maryland and Joe Farley near Chicago did hear it too:
http://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php?topic=16615.0

The Eclipse officially started at 0520 UT; I stayed up until 0707 when totality began after a small sliver of light left on the edge; below freezing temp at Earth level. SW propagation has been better than usual, but doubt it has anything to do with the eclipse, altho any full Moon would possibly tidally disturb the ionosphere, pulling it higher; right, Chuck? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, April 15 at 0059, JBA carrier from R. Chaski still running well past 0100 until cutoff at 0108:21* which is 12 seconds later than 48 hours ago; today`s timing may not be precise as the signal was fading up and down a lot (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SRI LANKA. 11905, April 15 at 0114 open carrier, poor-fair, 0114:47 music starts, 2+1 mistimesignal ends at 0115:23 and SLBC sign-on in Hindi. It seems SLBC is always slow and Bangladesh is always fast, so they sort of average out for India? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SUDAN [non]. 11650, April 15 at 0532, R. Dabanga ID in passing as soon as I tune in, good Arabish signal with whine/tone jamming from Sudan or collaborator. 145 degrees via VATICAN, so close to directly off the back reliably USward (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TIBET [non]. 15525, April 15 at 1405, Voice of Tibet via MADAGASCAR, fair and jumps to 15530 at 1407 sharp. No jammer audible on either frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY [and non]. 9830, April 15 at 0101, I am looking for the new frequency still listed by the April 14 edition of Aoki as effective April 7 for Voice of Turkey in Spanish --- no sign of it (nor RTTY at this darkening hour). Furthermore, no sign of 9870 or the frequency Aoki dropped, 9770, but which had been the two VOT SS channels. Totally off the air, as surely would have been propagating, like VG Romania in French on 9700. I keep checking all three frequencies, and still nothing until 0129, when 9870 and 9770 are suddenly on in // with Turkish music. So no change, yet? to 9830. Big power failure at Emirler? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7506.6, April 15 at 0104, WRNO still no show (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5110v-CUSB, UT Tuesday April 15 at 0104, another `Allan Weiner Worldwide` rerun has started, despite WBCQ still failing to show any activity on this frequency on weekdays:
http://schedule.wbcq.com/main.php?fn=sked&freq=5110
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** UZBEKISTAN. 9900, April 15 at 0114, poor signal with South Asian language, music, address ending in .in. First I check Aoki which has nothing around this time! Then HFCC A-14 shows:

9900 0030 0130 41 TAC 100 131 0 156 1234567 300314 261014 D Mul UZB NEW RAM 2501

Then to EiBi for the full answer: TWR to India at 0030-0130 in 5 different languages, on UT Tuesdays at 0115 going from BJ to DZ, which means Bhojpuri (spoken in Bihar) to Dzongkha (Bhutanese) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
