Glenn Hauser logs April 11-13, 2014

** AUSTRALIA. 15240, April 13 at 0525, RA with silly ballgame // 15300, so back to normal programming with the cyclone emergency in Far North Queensland apparently over. Also 6150 // 9580 around 1230 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA [non]. 1520, April 13 at 1201 UT, I catch partial ID again for wrong station ``KGBC, Galveston-Houston`` which is 1540 also relaying China Radio International (1540 here is likely to be blocked by The Metroplex station, but this 1520 one manages to overcome KOKC at least briefly, which is in CBS News); then ``The Hourly News``, but by the CRI native announcer. On 1520 it`s really KYND, Cypress TX. Shawn Fahrer found the corporate source for all this following my yesterday`s log, obviously a ChiCom subsidiary allowed in the US; can you imagine such a reciprocal arrangement for USG broadcasts within China? Why don`t we insist on it?
http://gestudio.us/ : "G&E Studio develops more than ten radio stations across the United States, Canada and Mexico, producing more than 100 hours of Chinese and English local radio programs per week." See this page: http://gestudio.us/index.php/en/houston (which lists 1540, 1520, and 1320 AM)`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 570, April 13 at 0541-0542 UT, R. Reloj can be detected once LAH to the S/SW is nulled (XEBJB/KGRT?), with minutely timesignals, which shockingly come 9 seconds later than WWV, and then the ``RR`` Morse identifiers. At least time has not stood still for 55 years like so much else in Cuba. This is 25 kW from Santa Clara, says WRTH. Conditions somewhat auroral (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. Strangely enough, I didn`t log any missteps from RHC today (because I didn`t look for them), but they have finally put up their full A-14 transmission schedule (which will still need some changes to avoid collisions Arnie should have known about); thanks to José Bueno, Spain, for the link:

(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDIA. 11985, April 13 at 0110, AIR is yet again messing up its Sinhala service from Delhi-Khampur site: just a big hum with flutter, while // 11740 via GOA succeeds in transmitting music (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA NORTH. 15245, April 12 at 1754, open carrier except for lite grinding noise, i.e. the typical Juche jamming bleeding into Voice of Korea from the transmitters next to it: scheduled here, the break between KCBS in Korean and VOK in English on same 325 degree beam to Europe (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6940-USB, UT Sunday April 13 at 0101, pirate music, fair signal, blues to honky-tonk segués. Smax of Wolverine Radio, and that`s exactly the quick two-word ID I hear between songs at 0107.5 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1640, Sunday April 13 at 1216 UT, KZLS Enid with talk show about branding cattle and horses, and this time I check sibling station 99.7 KNAH Mustang (of course!), and by golly they are // now, except 1640 is about one second behind 99.7. I think they are also // during some music segments (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, April 13 at 0056, JBA carrier from R. Chaski vs splash from 5990 China/Cuba, but that`s off after 0100 while 5980 is still on. Until cutoff at 0108:09*, which is 11 seconds later than one binite ago (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN [non]. 11910, April 13 at 1222, Spanish talk, poor with flutter, the Beijing relay of REE making it poorly with flutter, but better than anything direct from with bands above 14 MHz essentially dead, and lower bands attenuated; K-index at 12 was 3, and altho WWV reports ``no spaceweather storms in past 24 hours``, the ionosphere has obviously still not recovered from the last one.

I also logged 11910, April 11 at 1253 and 1326 with heavy flutter, but overlooked reporting it then. Then I could compare it to 17715 and 21610 direct and found 11910 running a few words behind them (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 11835, April 12 at 1803, no news on the hour, but instead YL with DX tips in German! Good signal with flutter. At first not sure whence. Items include schedules from Japan, Iran, Spain in English, Russia, and about Luxembourg ex-6090; 1812 mentions Türkisch, 1813 into Turkish music. Yes, the VOT German service at 1730-1825, 500 kW, 310 degrees from Emirler, and thus also USward. I suspect this reception is anomalous, following some propagation disturbance.

I missed today`s English broadcast, but suspecting the German service DX show had the same material translated from English, I find that as of 1430 UT April 13, the previous day`s audio is still available:

This is reached from a podcast and on-demand page:http://www.trt-world.com/trtworld/Galeri/Podcast.aspx?dil=en
but the April 12 opening program summary mentions `Letterbox`, not DX Corner, so English is at least a week out of synch with German. After some slow loading, you can advance the playback 10 minutes into the hour file to confirm it`s Letterbox: first one from David Crystal in Israel taking TRT to task for allowing the B13 frequency for English at 1730 to be blocked by something else. (Looking at Aoki, that would have been 11680, also with KCBS domestic service from North Korea until 1800.) Host also mentions that Mr Ozman (sp?), head of English service, is retiring this week.

I notice that the first quarter program schedule in English still shows Letterbox on Wednesdays rather than alternating with DX Corner on Saturdays which started this year. So is that program schedule,

undated, really from a previous year? Yes, it certainly is, showing the I broadcast at 1530 UT, an old timing, instead of 1730! So don`t you believe it. Hope the new English head gets the website up to date (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1716 monitoring: missed checking April 12, Sat 2330 on WTWW-2, 9930, but presumably happened, as at 0055 UT Sunday April 13 on 5085, Ted Randall`s subsequent `QSO` show was on. UT Sunday April 13 at 0030, on WRMI-14, 9495, but not checked until 0057, it`s very poor but I can make out that it`s last week`s 1715.

Confirmed WOR 1716, UT Sunday April 13 from 0400:53 on WTWW-1, 5830. This week I catch only one transmitter dropout, at 0403:37*-*0404:45. Why does this keep happening during the 5830 WOR broadcast? Next:
UT Monday 0300 on Area 51 via WBCQ, 5110v-CUSB
Tuesday 1100 & Wednesday 1300 on WRMI, 9955
Wednesday 0630 & 1430 on Hamburger Lokalradio, 7265-CUSB
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 640, April 13 at 1208 UT, `NPR Weekend Edition Sunday` themesong, so has to be WOI Ames IA. (Since OU was stupid enough to sell off WNAD sesquidecades ago.)

Stronger CCI from a preacher apparently originating in Singapore about how a huge percentage of world`s young people are within a radius from it (well, yeah, China and India). Would guess KFI, but its `Jesus Christ Show` is not on schedule until 6-9 am PDT Sundays = 13-16 UT, with `Coast to Coast AM` running until 1300 UT. So maybe it`s really WCRV Collierville TN (Memphis mkt), gospel huxter certainly on 50 kW day power now. KWPN Moore OK is a poor third for time being (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 660, April 13 at 1206 UT, Navajo chants unmistakably, so KTNN Window Rock AZ, but well before sunrise when supposed to be direxional away from us; official April SR is 1245 UT, May 1215 UT, and not until June can it legally be non-direxional from 1200 UT. And there is no PSRA in its Correspondence file at FCC AM Query (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1520, KYND, relaying CHINA: q.v.
