Glenn Hauser logs December 16-17, 2013

** ALASKA. 9615, Dec 17 at 1402, KNLS theme music, Chinese pronouncing website in English: www.smzg.org  Fair signal, not usually heard, so has it not been on or just not propagating? Into hymn in English. 9615 is HFCC-registered for KNLS Chinese at 14-15, 285 degrees, as well as at 10-12 UT, plus English 12-13, 270 degrees. Own website shows 10-11 hour on 9615 is also in English, not Chinese. However, CNR Mongolian service westward from Beijing site is also on 9615 at 12-14 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA [and non]. 9605, Dec 17 at 1408, heavy mix of Chinese services, at least one of which is // 9530. I.e. CNR1 jamming vs IBB Chinese this hour only on both 9530 and 9605 via PHILIPPINES. 9605 still same at 1453.

9320-9345 approx., extremely distorted FM blob, Dec 17 at 1455, at first seems peaking around 9335, or is it 9325? Anyhow, totally blox 9330 WBCQ. I manage to // the modulation to 9825 CNR1 jammer at 1458. Both run timesignals ending about a semisecond late after 1500, then 9825 goes off while lower blob does not. Then 9825 comes back on for a while with carrier only (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 11880, Dec 16 at 2141, RHC has finally resumed Portuguese during this semihour (to Africa), instead of repeating the 2100 French broadcast; but something else has to be wrong! 11760 is // 11880 in Portuguese, when 11760 is supposed to be off the air after its 2100 French to Americas (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EQUATORIAL GUINEA [and non]. 15190, R. Africa is back, direct from Bata, despite R. Africa via WRMI. Bata had been missing on Dec 14-15, so we thought they might have finally got their acts apart. Dec 16 at 1950, still no signal on 15190 from either, but at 2139 recheck, the previous mix of two stations with different preachers is back, and making the typical SAH of 200/minute = three and a third Hz apart.

15190, another check on Dec 17, not until 2132 and I am only hearing one station, the Japanese Mississippian preacheress who purports to be a biblical authority. 2225 music. Only very slight fading, seemingly propagational, rather than a regular subaudible heterodyne. If the Bata carrier is on, it`s very weak, unmodulated (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GREECE [and non]. 7475, Dec 17 at 0107 is tonight`s frequency from what`s left of Ellenike Radiophonia, presumably carrying Thessaloniki programming, as usual undermodulated, rock music, but fair signal strength. Nothing on 9420 except CRI EAST TURKISTAN (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDIA. 11985, Dec 17 at 0059, very poor signal from presumed AIR Sinhala service; now that WRMI is on 11730 with BS, there`s too much splash from it to compare 11985 with the other AIR frequency, 11740 which is supposed to be //, but which per numerous logs in October+, was often not // as 11985 did other stuff. Recently, signals from both have been too poor (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDONESIA. 9526-, Dec 17 at 1454, VOI makes its presence felt by 4+kHz against 9530 China radio war, and <1 kHz het against 9525, I suppose CRI Kashgar, already on air prior to 1500 English. Some music too, not sure from which transmitter (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA NORTH [non]. 9775, Dec 17 at 1351, carrier is on, but no English musical prélude today, after doing that the past five days; until R. Free Chosun theme and sign-on at 1400; again signal comparable to 9800 VOA Korean via Tinang. 1503 recheck, 9775 still in well with music and 9800 is off, until the latter carrier comes back on at *1503-1505* (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA [non]. 1210, Dec 17 at 0645 UT, `Coast to Coast AM` // but not synchro with 1200 WOAI. I`ve been meaning to point out that for some weeks now, KGYN Guymon OK has not been heard at night, meaning that they have axually been running night pattern with null toward Philadelphia, Enid, and/or reduced power. The C2CAM must be WPHT, as listed in NRC AM Log 2013, once you check the format key and find that entered as ``B`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OMAN. 15140, Dec 17 at 1411, open carrier/dead air and some hum, instead of English hour from R. Sultanate of Oman; and cut off the air around 1414, still off at 1445. Meanwhile, Ivo Ivanov was hearing it on 15355 instead this hour; mistake? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU [and non]. 5980, Dec 17 at 0058, heavy pulse jamming from Cuba, as happens nonsensically periodically, far outside the hours that R. Martí ever uses 5980; but I can still detect a carrier amid it, and it`s R. Chaski since it cuts off at 0102:02.5*, which is 14.5 seconds later than when last observed 72 hours earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN [and non]. 11780, Dec 17 at 0114 since I happen to be monitoring on UT Tue, check for the weekly REE Emisión Sefarad. At first only hear RNAmazonia, Brasil, but at 0115 REE IS only once, and then opening the Sephardic show; almost equal level to Brasil, heavy collision as usual while REE`s alternate frequency 11795 in the clear goes completely to waste (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9955, Tue Dec 17 at 1345, WRMI amid ``Anglo-Parade`` new timing, which turns out to be a countdown of hit music in English, but presented in Spanish, why? Playback timing adjusted slightly, with `WRMI Scoreboard` starting at 1359:10, but it`s still not late enough to avoid cutting off the previous show. TOH English ID now starts at 1400 instead of earlier, and this time it`s the voice of Rudy Espinal in Santo Domingo! Longtime SWLs will remember him as a favorite presenter back on Radio Clarín (whose 50 kW Wílkinson SW transmitter WRMI acquired and used from Hialeah until Dec 1); then after 1400 transmitter/antenna switch to northwest, preacher (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 17775, Dec 17 at 1409 JBA carrier from presumed KVOH; by 1447 ID as ``Voz de la Esperanza`` has built up to good level. As the sun rises a bit earlier each day now, starting as early as 1400 will become less problematical (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENIING DIGEST)

Jan 16 was a slip; correct date on the card itself as Dec 16, 2013. Both this message and a full-data QSL card were in docx format and I could get a real card for an SASE. It includes their direxional NW/SE pattern, 250 watt power. Tnx, Mark (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
